Well everyone, it was labour after all. Nightmare car journey with killer contractions coming every 3 or 4 minutes. Was in hospital for 11.30, epidural (after 4 attempts) at about 1.30. Sick multiple times on floor, shoes etc due to gas and air.
God invented epidurals! Managed to snooze for about 3 hours, watched pointless, eggheads and great British Menu. Then was told I was 10cm, happy days!
Unfortunately I could not push the baby out so was whipped in to theatre, had spinal block and episiotomy and forceps. Was v scary, but totally worth it.
I had a little girl at 11.15pm, just under 8lbs. We decided to call her R!oghnach which is an Irish name pronounced sort of like Raina.
Am besotted!!0 -

Hi everyone. Does anyone live near Birmingham? I have won two tickets from The People to the baby show at the NEC (18-20 May). I don't feel up to travelling that far at the moment and if I'm honest, I was after the first prize which was hundreds of pounds of baby gear!
**Now gone to a good home!***
If anyone wants them, please PM me.
Thanks,
Katy x0 -

you have to!! I need to get motivated. I've got so much work to do but it's so boring.
It's lots of itty bitty stuff - nothing to really sink my teeth into.
p.s. I did nothing yesterday either! LOL!!:rotfl:0 -
Argh just lost my post
Congratulations Gotothec
Emsbet if you can get there I recommend borrowing some books from your local library before buying one so you don't end up shelling out for something you throw out of the window after page 2I read the Rough Guide to Babies from my local library which kept me amused for awhile though not enough to go and buy it.
*hugs* to Ikkle, at least they're looking after you and it's better to be safe and you get to see baby a few more timesThe later scans are amazing - you can see finger nails and eyes and watch the blood flow through the heart and placenta
Though at the 36 weeks one I had last week you could barely make out anything because he was too big to fit full parts on the screen.
I've had protein in my urine for weeks and severe headaches throughout my pregnancy so been checked regularly for pre-eclampsia though now I think they've just decided this is how my body deals with pregnancy.
Anaesthetist appointment this afternoon then another obstetrician appointment on Friday to hopefully sort out a birth plan once and for all - well, barring problems. Really hoping the anaesthetist knows what he's talking about rather than panicking - it'd be good to have at least one member of the team looking after me to have a clue.
Miss_Money, in my area if you're having a planned home birth you contact the labour ward at the local hospital and they arrange a community midwife to come out to you. I think this is generally because the hospital is open 24hrs a day whereas the community midwife office is only open during office hours and the rest of the time the midwives are just on call.
I'm bored of being pregnant, I want baby cuddles. My OH declared I can't go into labour until after this afternoon's appointment and preferrably after Friday when I'll be 37 weeks. TBH as he's not engaged yet I'd be surprised if he came out early anyway though I'm keeping myself going by telling myself I'll be having baby cuddles within 5 weeks
Had a great weekend with 2 wedding receptions Saturday night - managed to dance and bounce about and almost felt like my old self for a few hours though did suffer the next day. One reception was for a school friend so lots of people I hadn't see for over 10 years were there. I apparently haven't changed (apart from being pregnant and having longer hair) as everyone seemed to remember my name whereas I had major difficulty with some people so there was a lot of 'hi, great to see you, blah blah' then as soon as they went to the bar, grabbing someone I knew to ask the names of the people I'd just spoken to
The second reception was for people I see fairly often so was a bit more relaxing though it's the first time I've had people other than my OH trying to touch my bump. Have discovered I don't mind close friends who ask first doing it but casual aquaintances and strangers get glared at
Did get a lot of comments along the lines of 'how long have you got left' '4 weeks' 'wow and you're still dancing' - I neglected to point out it was the first time I'd been socialising for months and would most definitely suffer for it the next day
Right, need to find something else to distract me before this afternoon - there's a reason all my other appointments have been arranged for pre-10am
Have a good day everyone, labour vibes for those who want them,.0 -
Ooh ooh, Emsbet I just remembered a book I actually quite enjoyed reading!

It's honest and amusing - a bit american in bits but most of the info (except the bits about healthcare etc) are universal0
