  • MissMoney and Alizee how exciting!!!! I woke up all fuzzy headed now I'm almost jumping up and down with excitement!!!:D keep us posted with what's happening, yep I'm not getting out much these days is it obvious? It's so exciting to me to hear things are getting started for you both. Maybe two MSE babies today? :D:D
Morning to everyone else! Hope all is well and had decent amount of sleep. Finally awake after a night of heartburn. Must do my uni work today, but every time I think that someone on here goes into labour. Think it was Happy last time so I spend the day looking for updates. Well it's much more exciting to me :) still its an excuse to eat choccy at the computer ;)
LittleMissGiggle that's a question I want to know the answer to too. I have one (somewhere) but a normal one that I got for back pain years ago, does anyone know if it's suitable? Surely they must be the same? If you put them on too high it's not nice at all, but was useful for back pain then. I guess if nowt else the electrocution feeling might distract you from the pain.
Turtlemoose sorry to hear your no is still high. Thouhg happy you've heard baby and all is well there. Drs seem to appear when they appear. If I had a pound for everything a patient/relative had asked what time is the dr coming I would be rich! Hopefully you're not waiting too long, glad you seem to get more monitoring today. Sounds like there's a point of you sitting there.
Baby groups hmmm I may as well join the "snobby" ones. I'm 28, but an old 28. I don't know many people where I live. I moved to be with OH but I still work where I used to live (only 16/17 miles away) and my friends are all there. OH isn't really one with tons of friends either so I was thinking about these groups. Well here comes Miss Snobby....just walking in the town it's just like Jeremy Kyle candidates. So I'm worried that it'll be like a youth club and people I'll have nothing in common with. Saying that one of our friends who does live here and had a baby back in October says she met some lovely people and now they have coffee etc, she's no chav and a couple of years older than me. I have just googles NCT bumps/babies group so may email them and see. Like others have said I don't have to go twice. I think OH is worrying that I'm getting too used to being in the house alone so think he'd be happier if I was out a bit. On the letter with my maternity classes on there is a "pregnancy club" which is one evening a month so not sure who that is organised by but I may go there and check it out. Although I'm very happy on here and feel I know you some of you very well, I'm thinking more about when bubba is here. It'll be nice for him to see other people and other babies and have some interaction in the event that he's not a genius and on here typing away his woes about what baby food mummy has given him to his other baby genius friends on here ;)
MrsManda sorry your midwife wasn't more helpful. I can see where she's coming from about not writing a fab plan and your Obs dismissing it. Shame you can't see them both together really. But for some of the more standard stuff like strep B she should have been able to advise even if it wasnt set in stone. Hugs for the headache, hope they go away soon, is your bp ok?
Right think another cuppa with toast of course! Hope you all have a great day xxx

    Hey all,

Back from physio, have been given exercises and a crutch to help me walk. What fun!

Sorry the hospital is so aweful Turtle, hopefully you will be home soon.

With regards to baby groups, I will probably see what options there are around here once lo is here. I live in yummy mummy territory where they all have expensive designer prams and clothes etc. I am so not a yummy mummy so we will see what works.

  • So from my research I have deduced that normal tens machines differ from maternity ones because the maternity ones typically have 4 pads rather than the typical two, they also have a boost/surge button which are used to counteract the contraction itself and run in "normal" mode in the background between the contractions. A normal one wouldnt turn up quick enough to respond to your contractions and that is when you will need it most.

I appreciate that some people rate them and some people don't but I wont know myself unless I try one. They work physically ( I wont bore you with the science!) but as LMM said they also act as a distraction. The one thing people do say is for them to work you have to whack them on as early as possible.

I'm thinking i might buy one as this is my first baby so there is potential for others in the future and it would be handy to have around the house for 6 months after the baby is born as I have a very weak back and am likely to have some back pain after the baby is born from bending and changing them etc

Hmmmm decisions decisions..... My changing bag arrived over the weekend and I get to go pick it up from ost office after work today!! is it sad that I'm excited about a bag!?!!?

LMG, my hospital hires out TENS machines for £10. Maybe yours does too rather than spending lots of money on something you may or may not get on with.

No no no! I'm always excited about a bag lol! Which one did you get? I haven't found one I'm in love with yet. Seen so many nice ones though.

Kitten I will look into the hospital ones too, thank you :)

I was only told at the antenatal classes held at the hospital. I wouldn't have known any other way so worth giving them a ring.

    Hi all :hello:

Lots and lots of labour vibes to those in need of them - thinking of you alizee and MissMoney! :j

Nice to 'see you' littlemissgiggles. Regarding TENS machines, I have been issued a bog standard one from my physio. I asked about the difference between this one and maternity ones -basically its the price! This one is very simple and is not flashy at all but physio said many women get one for early labour. Can use either two or four electrodes at a time and retails between £17-21. Model is TPN 200 plus, website is www.physiomedhomecare.com or have a look on ebay. Mine is on loan for two weeks but am more than likely going to buy one for labour :)

Hope everyone else is well xx

I can't join any yummy posh mummy baby groups - couldn't breastfeed (I pump what I can) and hate the idea of being judged and sneered at for having to use formula (yes I feel ashamed if I have to get a carton and bottle out in public).
