Mrsmanda some babies don't engage until actual labour, when it's the contractions that push them down! Have a read of this thou, I found it quite interesting

Diszi, I know what you mean about the phone conversations....last night I had a woman in early labour rapidly talking in a language I don't recognise, and her husband was playing games on the by-the-bed tv, while playing music throu the loudspeaker on his phone. So there was her nattering on and on, the game going beep beep beep beep, and the music....all of which were too loud so the other one kept getting louder to try it drown out the other....argh!!0 -

I feel your pain - I don't know if you were on the thread when Erin was born - but she was premature so we had to spend a fortnight in the hospital - some of it in special-care for her, but the place they comically put the premature babies' mums (and babies when they move out of special care) is on a bog-standard maternity ward... 2 weeks of living on there and I was fit to throttle lots and lots of people (particularly the girl who rang EVERYONE at 3am to go on about her "premature baby" - that had been born a day before her due date... she had a particularly obnoxious ringtone on her phone as well to add to the urge to kill).
Add in the fact the ward staff were incapable of being quiet - and any late-night attempts to do so were so theatrically quiet they were double the volume of daytime... grrrr!Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
Emsbet, I've been looking for yellow baby clothes too. Mothercare has a lovely yellow sleepsuit (with integrated scratch mittens) with a giraffe on it - it comes in a pack of three; one of the others is white with stripes in different colours but I can't remember what the third one looks like (but it wouldn't surprise me if it was plain white...). I just couldn't resist the winning combination of yellow and giraffe! I know there are some other giraffe lovers on here, so if you need sleepsuits there's my tip of the day
Oooh, I need to go to Mothercare on my way home from work now in search of giraffe sleepsuits (I am a giraffe fanatic!).turtlemoose wrote: »Any of you first time mummies joining any groups or similar? I've been eyeing up coffee mornings and so on, but while super excited about bubs, I'm not a mumsy gushing type so I really loathe the idea of trying to make friends with someone just cuz we happened to reproduce at the same time!! Anyone else in a similar boat?
I am in exactly the same boat. I don't have many friends as I don't make friends easily - I am a bit anti-social really and just enjoy my own company and that of DH (he's the same). However, I feel like I really should make the effort now for bumps sake if not my own. I have signed up to an NCT "Speed Bumps" event and am going to brave a bumps and babes group at some point. As others have said, if I don't like it I don't have to go back.0 -

On a happier note.... Bump is officially 37 weeks today eeep, I suppose I should be prepared (in theory) for baby to decide to arrive any time from now (although I'm sure it will be a few weeks....I hope so anyway!).

I know exactly what you mean. I'm not really a joiner, and I have this awful feeling that if I hated it, I'd be too polite to just stop going as I live in quite a rural area and would probably bump into the organisers. We go out of the house plenty, we just don't see people.

Well been having contractions since midnight. Not v regular but quite painful! In the bath ATM eating toast (classy me!)

Ooh alizee, exciting stuff
Just had a ctg here, not had one until this week, I've now had 3 ... I love it! Great to hear baby's heart so loudly, and the swoosh of them moving, and mine loves to circle underneath (like a shark or something lol) and then BAM! Whacks the monitor pad thing really hard...makes me laugh every time. Bet if the took my BP now it would be nice and low, there's nothing more reassuring than hearing bump is ok.0 -
Hi ladies, I'm coming out of hiding once again as I have a question....
Is anyone planning on using a TENS machine during labour? If so are you hiring or buying and what model are you getting? I dont know whether to get a basic model or an all singing all dancing non MSE one... I know in theory they do the same thing but i'm a sucker for a fancy gadget!! If you could share your thoughts and experiences I would be most grateful!
I shall go back and hide in the shadows again now, but I can honestly say stalking you ladies and reading about your journeys keeps me sane even if I dont contribute very often at all!0 -
Ok, I'll try again now - hopefully i won't lose this post!
Turtlemoose sympathies on your awful hospital experience! being left to your own devices with no food or drink all that time is disgusting - I know your OH was there but that's no excuse for the staff not to come round, check you are ok and reassure you. I had a scare at 13 weeks and ended up in A&E; apart from a receptionist that chose to ignore me crying and curtly told me to "wait behind the line", the staff were very good and we were seen within half an hour. The nurse who attended me was brilliant and a lady with a breakfast trolley was doing the rounds and even asked me and my mum if we wanted anything even though we had only been there about 50mins at that stage! I just hope the staff are as attentive when I have to go into the maternity ward!
Re baby groups, I don't think it is for me. I can't remember who said about being round chavs, but that's my sentiment too I'm afraid. I'm also 36 and aware that I will prob be one of (if not THE) oldest one in there, so that plays on my mind a bit too. I'm not sure I would have the tolerance to deal woth all the diff kinds of epople in there - that sounds awful doesn't it? It's just that as I've got older I've realised that time is too precious to spend it doing stuff that you don't want or or with people that you don't really like! A lot of my friends have kids but they are all various ages from 1 year up to 10 years and most of them are back at work so there may not be too many of them around in the day. Ah well, we'll see at the time. I can always go to one or two groups and then not go again if it really isn't for me.
Dropped lucky on freecycle and freegle today - brand new cot mattress still in wrappers from one lady and several baby items from another who is still sorting through stuff at the moment and will have items ready for me at the end of the week! Who-hoo!
Hugs to anyone that needs them and to those that are in early stages of labour - yay! Mummy cuddles are not far away!0 -
ooo good luck alizee

littlemissgiggle I bought one when i was expecting my 1st 7 years ago.... I wore it for 5 miutes and then threw it across the room in a fit of expletives! It felt like i was being electrocuted!!! I did;t find mine helpful and it was quite expensive at the time. However I know women who swear my them, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of difference (from what friends have said) in the cheapy ones to the expensive ones. are there any review sites on them? xx
turtlemoose I'm sorry for the way you've been treated ((((hugs))) xxxBad mother to 2!
