Hi Norabatty, don't want to worry you but I reckon thats worth a call to your midwife. A pain across the top of your bump can be a sign of pre-eclampsia. A lady on here had a pain like that a while ago and had to go be checked out to make sure it wasn't pre-eclampsia. Its probably not that but definately not worth taking the risk of not getting it checked in my opinion!

Thanks Lisa, will give my doctor a call soon.

Just get a bit fed up sometimes as some of my friends can be a bit sniffy and think I should be buying new everything. Its ok for them as they aren't having to buy them.

*hugs* don't let your 'friends' make you feel bad.
If they want to buy everything new then they're welcome to but it's often not at all necessary especially newborn things as babies grow so quickly.

I feel guilty spending a small fortune on anything really. The household income of my friends and family range from really quite high (~100k) to quite low (~15k) but we all try our best to reduce costs wherever possible and no one would be looked down at because they've gone for secondhand/cheaper items. We're more likely to wonder why someone's spent lots of money on buying something you could get cheaper elsewhere or which isn't going to be used for more than 6 weeks :p

On saying that we'll probably end up buying most things new because the secondhand baby sales where we are seem practically non-existent and we have no close friends/family we can inherit from. Plus we're hoping to have another child so can use the same stuff for them.

But we're still going to do our very best to buy as cheaply as possible - been busy signing up to baby clubs for vouchers, comparing prices and looking at cashback sites.

Please don't let people get you down, you will do the best for your baby and don't let anyone tell you any different
    *hugs*

Dinah93 - Happy Birthday! Hope you have an amazing day :)

Most amazing possible - 20 week scan was all positive - baby is measuring well and everything looks healthy. Only slight hiccup is a low lying placenta they want to look at again at 32 weeks to see if it's moved. I've been convinced since getting the BFP we're having a little boy, and today we were told it's a little girl! Over the moon.

  • I've bought a new mattress for the basket and the cot. I'm saving on other things so I can buy the really important things new. Just get a bit fed up sometimes as some of my friends can be a bit sniffy and think I should be buying new everything. Its ok for them as they aren't having to buy them. I've given up telling people what I've got and from where cos it was driving me mad. I can only do what in able at the end of the day.

Snap! My sister gave out to me for not having the baby privately!!! Like I'm going to throw away a few thousand quid just to see the same person each time. You can probably guess that both she and her DH are on high incomes.
She also paid over £700 for her travel system and reckons it's a false economy if I try to buy something similar for less than £600! No doubt she'll have a fit when I introduce her to the Hauck Shopper travel system!:rotfl:Which will obviously happen after we have bought it so she can't complain and turn DH off the idea!
