Thanks for the breastpads links. I have a box of johnsons - need to get another - lord knows how long 1 box will last for! But will buy and prehaps make some if I get some time too.

How are all the July ladies fairing up? Nurseries all ready and hospital bags all packed? What you got left to do?

I mentioned the movements to my midwife last time I saw her, and she said they don't pay attention to frequency/strength until 27 weeks now. I'll see her on Thursday just before I get to that point, so I will mention it again.

Re bonding - I totally agree about not always feeling the instant rush of love. For me a lot of it can be put down to the birth experience. With my daughter (17 hour labour, epidural, left on my own, 3rd degree tears, no after care etc) I was so out of it that I didn't feel much except relief that it was over. She then had a complete collapse at 4 days old and spent over a month in SCBU so I didn't get a chance to build up that bond until she was 3 months old. The guilt is still there for me now that she is 8. With my son it was the total opposite. I was induced and he arrived 5 hours after the induction. I had a midwife with me the entire time and it was as nice an experience as it could be. I had the complete instant bond and he was my little mummy's boy even as a baby.

I'm hoping for another positive experience this time round. I'm more scared since finding out I'm having a girl. There is no reason why things should go badly again just because bump is a girl, but its sitting there irrationally in the back of my head that things don't go well for me with girls.

ok just got my normal email alerts for seeing the baby week-by-week! i know they give appromixate sizes for the babies at a certain week. does it have to match? say at 13 weeks, your baby is about 8.5cm. mine was 7.5 at the scan. just got some time now so i guess reading up is not a good idea! lol

Don't worry too much about the size of the baby not matching your emails Rups - I get so many different emails, and they all say different sizes as they are approximate, and will vary from baby to baby. Also, the babies can grow at slightly different rates - it may be that your baby has a massive growth spurt and will be the right length by the end of the week rather than the beginning of each week.

Just spent the morning sorting out pregnancy-related things - called jobcentre plus and they are sending me out the form to apply for maternity allowance. Unfortunately we won't be entitled to the Sure Start Maternity Grant as we're not currently claiming benefits and Moon is working. Have also looked at our local health trust's parentcraft classes and booked into an active/water birth evening class in August. Had to call the NCT first though to find out what the dates of our September group course are (final payment hasn't gone through yet so haven't been sent the details and the course is full so not listed on the website) in case they clashed. Answered a bounty survey too.

Emsbet I have the same worries about movement. I'm 30+2 today and whilst I do feel some movement every day sometimes he goes crazy and other days it's very light movements and not that often. Certainly not the ten movements in an hour I've read about. And he doesn't really have set patterns (other than he usually goes mad about 11 o'clock at night - I wonder if he'll be the same when he's born?) so I don't know how I'm supposed to tell if somethings wrong. My mom tells me that if something were wrong I would instinctively know so I'm trying not to worry about it.

No hunni, you can't hurt him. He's got loads of fluid around him thats nice and soft and squidgy to protect him :) x

Thanks ikkle! I feel much better now you've said that. It's getting to the stage where my jeans are now getting tight so though bending over and them digging in, may have had some effect.

Must buy some new clothes :)

Hello everyone, today is day 1 of maternity leave. Feels really strange getting up after hubby!! Had a really busy weekend and really tired so today will be a relaxing one. Still need to pack hosp bag and now at 37+3 days.

Hoping the rain doesn't come as I need to walk to the supermarket with my 'granny' wheelie bag!!!

    10th on the list!! Scary!!

Clarissa we're due on the same day, the 20th, both boys! You are 9th and I'm 10th on the list now ... eep!

I also haven't packed my hospital bag so am going to do that now. In fact I need a smaller one for the baby. I bought Lansinoh breast pads off Amazon, also got maternity pads from there but seem to have misplaced them so will have to search. Trouble is the upstairs is a bit of a tip as my husband's started doing some re-plastering in the spare room so he can paint the room a warm yellow colour for baby. I'm really grateful he's taking Thurs & Fri off work to decorate, so I won't be alone, I am going a bit stir crazy at the moment!

That will be the extent of the decorating though, we're not going overboard. I've also ordered a Mr Benn small lampshade off Amazon for the room – but to be honest the lampshade is really for my husband rather than the baby :D He also wants to get Ivor the Engine, Mr Benn, Clangers DVDs for the same reason. In theory for baby, but really for him! I can't talk, I've had a Bagpuss DVD for years ...

We've also got a new washing machine coming on Sunday to deal with all the dirty baby clothes as the old one is rubbish. It's all happening!

P.S. As for who felt scared about labour – that was me as well, but I know I have to face the inevitable, after all, this baby is only coming out one way!
