Rebekah don't get too stressed over a section. I had one with my DD as I had 3 attempts at induction and didn't dilate or have any contractions. I found it a really positive experience. I breastfed until DD was over 7 months and called into Tesco to do some shopping on the way home (although I think I pushed it a bit there!).

I was dreading natural labour, partly because of the pain, but also I was terrified of tearing. Which a friend said was ridiculous since I wasn't afraid of being cut open for a section. But it was the location that was the issue!

I could have easily driven within 2 weeks, but since we were practically snowed in for the whole month of December, i just snuggled up with DD for the first month.

I did not have significant pain and I used maternity towels with distilled witch hazel poured over them as a dressing, which I changed every few hours. Within a week my scar was dry, the skin knitted together and now (19 months later) the scar is nearly invisible.

I was referred to a consultant, as I had a previous section and he asked what way I preferred to have this baby. I said "Definitely a section" and he said that I would be booked in for one at 39 weeks. I was so relieved!

I know not everyone will have had as good an experience, but there are good and bad birth stories on both sides.

AidaI read in the NHS guidelines that if you have a consultant who will not agree to a section, you are entitled to ask for another consultant who will be OK with this.

I wanted a section, but resigned myself to having to attempt a "normal" delivery, and I found watching programmes on childbirth made me feel more calm and in control as I felt like I'd seen the best and the worst case scenario and knew what to expect and could think about how I might deal with possible outcomes.

Ended up with a section 11 day overdue though.

rjh I love West Midlands Safari Park. I live not too far away and we usually visit at least once a year. I can't wait until the baby is old enough so I can take him and show him all the animals.

moneypuddle I love that rocking horse. What a bargain!

  • Hello everyone!

Sexy mouse happy birthday. Sounds like you've got lots of treats for when bean arrives :) hope you've had a lovely day.
Rebekah can I pls borrow your MIL for. Few hours just to blitz my cleaning then I'll send her back ;) just tomorrow to get through then she'll be gone. Try and make use of her though, as you said its hard to get ppl in to help out.
Ikklehope you're ok, think I missed why you went to hospital, hope nothing too serious and you're taking it easy. Hugs to you for your hips and sad news
RJH glad you're home safe and had a good time. Hope you sleep well tonight on solid land.
LadyM maybe your midwife would know of any specific classes for you? Still some of the classes sound really good and informative. If you don't enjoy one maybe just don't go back?
Heartbeat bear it was part of the package at the scanning place. It's in Watford. Not the clearest sound tbh but I just loved the idea.
Costco nappies well went today to do some shopping and had a proper look at nappies. I only smaller packs of pampers yday which worked out very similar to supermarket prices. I only looked at pampers. no size 1s and only size 2s in packs of 88. Big boxes seem to be about £20, in these are size3-180 nappies, size4-152 nappies, size 4+-135 nappies. 10-11p a nappy is great for smaller sizes. Obv as baby gets bigger there seems to be less nappies for same price. Johnson wipes were just under £6 for 6pks, which on offers at supermarket you can get. Costco is about 25 min drive, and of course I can never just buy one thing normally see other things that are bargains.
Birthing worries I'm more afraid of having a c section. I'm thinking my body is designed for childbirth, although its failing rapidly at coping during pregnancy lol. Just feel that major surgery and healing time after would not be good for my mental health either, also my body isn't great at healing, and do worry they'll use the wrong stitches or something :( Although I'm very scared of tearing downstairs :-( I guess we'll just have to see what happens. I have my ideal labour in my head, but you can never plan. Everyone copes and heals differently too. I'm more scared of drs interfering and messing with me really as they think I'm high risk.

Well half time at the footie, cheering Italy but it's not going so well!
Hope everyone is ok, hugs to those that need them and labour vibes to those in need xx

    Happy birthday sm x

Love the rocking horse money puddle, did you go to the Ripon one? X

Lmm, basically my hips were sore this morning at half 4, got worse to the point I was getting shooting pains up my back and couldn't move my legs without feeling like I was being kicked by people with steel toe caps on. I have a spinal condition anyway as well as kidneys which are prone to infection :( rang midwife because paracetamol just wasn't cutting it and they said to go in, they ran out of beds on MAU so I got put on delivery suite (which scared the living daylights out of me) so they could monitor me and do some bloods to check for infections/pancreatitis. Been sent back home to rest and await an urgent referral to physio again because other than tiny shuffles I can't move my legs properly. :( I declined codeine because it affects my stomach and will cause me even more discomfort.

Bet you wish you hadn't asked now lol.
You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

xx Mama to a gorgeous Cranio Baby xx

ikkle, hope you get some sleep/rest and the pain eases a little.

Rebekah, according to our NCT teacher during the bit inbetween contractions you get a sort of "natural high" from the hormones and she says you will feel amazing. I'm not sure I completely believe it but I'd like to think that's true! It's certainly got to be helpful to go into it with a positive mindset anyway. As you say it's what our bodies are designed to do.
Never heard of that one! Interesting! I'm sure those who have given birth naturally can tell us lol.
