You'll soon realise Rups, that when you're pregnant, everyone becomes obsessed with your weight and the size of your bump. People think when you are pregnant it's ok to tell some one their fat or not fat enough. Just ignore them or if you're feeling brave say something like "I'm pregnant, what's your excuse?" ;)

Appointments theres the 16 midwife check (18 weeks in my area), anomoly scan at 20 weeks (you may need more than one if baby isn't playing ball, I had my second at 23 weeks as baby wouldn't move into the right position), then another midwife appointment at 25 weeks, and again 28 weeks where she will take bloods to check for anemia. Then another midwife appointment at 32 weeks then every two weeks or so after that. Each area varies slightly though so if it isn't exactly the same, don't worry.

    xx

Wow I'm 15th on the list! Not surprising as I've only got 4 weeks to go, if baby comes on time. I finished work on Friday – that was such a relief, but I had a mega-stressful week so I'm feeling pretty exhausted now. Next week is holiday for me then maternity leave starts after that.

Had to rush back from work after my send off to take the tour of the hospital, but it was quite reassuring seeing the birthing unit and the birth pool and the midwife telling us all about what might happen and where we could go. Hoping if birth straightforward to have a water birth in either the fixed pool or one of the inflatables. The rooms away from the main ward are really nice and quiet.

Re. stretch marks, I've been using bio oil since my second trimester and at 36 weeks (touch wood) I have no new stretch marks. So it probably does work.

Re. baby kicking, I first felt my baby kick at 19 weeks. He's still kicking quite a bit especially at night, which is quite nice and reassuring, even though he's got less room. It's a bit scary thinking that he could try and come any day now but at least it won't happen at work!

I've done all my antenatal classes now – the free NHS ones (4 sessions of 2 hours) were pretty good and I'm so grateful to save all that money. Also I vaguely know how to change a nappy!

Things I'm doing this week: Making up my bag for labour, sorting the music for the birthing room, writing a rough birth plan, ringing the tax office to check what happens as my pay will go right down after 13 weeks. I hope they give me a rebate! Also my mum's visiting and taking me to my midwife appointment on Thurs and dentist on Fri. It's nice to be looked after :) Oh and going to actually do my pregnancy yoga DVD from now on :j

    Hope everyone is well!
  • Thank you mishka, SM and kittykat for the lovely ideas

Welcome snowbean! Im not prepared at all for new arrival and only a couple of weeks behind you. I'm sure we'll get there though;)

Rups, I'm not sure if it varies at different pcts but I've seen/I'm seeing my mw on weeks 16, 25, 28, 30, 34, 38, 40 and 41. Also seeing the gp on week 36. I was told I have regular appointments because it's my first one. HTH.

We started looking at prams today at mothercare and babies r us. How much choice is there?? I've got no clue how we'll choose! We're going to more shops tomorrow - m&p and boots. Anywhere else I could go?

Ebay!! I have been trying to source everything through ebay. Esp pram and expensive stuff. My pram system apart from wheels of course - doesn't look used! And hte lady who sold it did a lovely job of cleaning all the bits that come with it like foot fuff, aprons etc and it all smells so fresh bless her. Bet you don't get that smell from the shops LOL.

We won our pushchair, mum bought us the cotbed when it was on offer from BabiesRUs with the 20% off, we also use freecycle and free facebook groups and got given a brand new baby changing unit on there. We used coupons and offers for nappies and wipes etc. Do look on ebay though as there is some bargains on there. Also look for car boot sales and NCT nearly new sales.

To the ladies who have had antenatal classes....do you have to sit on the floor? x

wow so many things i am learning. :) i think i might check argos too.. ebay sounds just fine though. I was telling my FIL that even clothes etc, i am happy to buy cheap ones as babies use them up so quickly and they keep getting washed.

thanks for the appointment times (ie when to roughly see midwife). i am hoping once imake the 16 week one, i get told of the next one? lol. you just never know as things get missed off.

thanks emsbet. i think i will say that but its DH who keeps saying that, and its annoying me. just because he is on weight watchers doesnt mean he has to keep saying that. I was thinkng about people touching your bump too as i read about that. I have seen DH do it to our friends who have been pregnant and i didnt like that ( i am silly and traditional in they way - well old fashioned) and i dont know how i will stop friends as i find it weird. When we told our gay friends, one of them did do that and before i could say anything, he had touched it and it felt so weird... what do you girls think?

ohhh another question please? how do you find these antenatal classes please? i want to go back to my work gym and start swimming as i gave the gym for a good few months. will just swim and walk. :) what do these antenatal classes comprise of then? sorry stupid questions but i really dont know. :D

If someone touches your stomach, touch theirs back. My granddad did it once to me and I did it back to him and said mines only one baby is yours twins, he saw the funny side but he won't do it again. Even my OH asks if he can touch lol.

Antenatal classes - if your going to NHS ones your midwife will normally tell you about them nearer the time. If you want to go to NCT ones it's worth looking on the NCT site for your local area. They can be expensive though. Theres some info here http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/antenatal-classes-pregnant.aspx#close

I like Argos for some of their clothes but their other stuff can be expensive so it does pay to shop around and compare prices.

Your midwife would normally prompt you to book your next appointment. My midwife does anyway although I'm not seeing her till 31 weeks now as I have my 28 week scan and consultant appointment at the hospital so she said theres no point having two for the same thing.

    Thanks ikkle :)

The inlaws came and were so pleased to see the scan pictures. been feeling moody with DH as he has been annoying me (just hormones) and he had a go at me when i said i would LOVE to find out the sex of the baby as he doesnt want to know, so he was saying 'you are not finding out'. errr isnt it my baby too? i wont tell him and wont let slip, but i want to know. so then later il said she has a feeling it will be a boy and i just said i would like a girl but wouldnt mind in the end as a healthy baby is more important and then DH said he wants a boy and ijust shouted that if we are meant to have a girl we will! His mum said i was a bit harsh but in a jokey way. oops... why are men so annoying?? maybe its me?

is it still normal to have period type pains? i had an umcomfy belly earlier but its better now and that right pain still :(
    xx

Totally normal to get pains still hun, its everything stretching and growing. I still get them now cos he's having a bit of a growth spurt as well as playing with my sciatic nerve which doesn't help cos it hurts lol.

My OH was very much team blue, all my family thought I was having a girl and admittedly I did too but was very happy to just find out that the baby was healthy and am so used to the fact my baby is a he that I can't imagine any different. It's ok to feel a bit deflated when you find out the gender too if it's not as you imagined.

You never know you might have an awkward baby who doesn't want to flash their bits.

    :) x
