I've been discussing this with the DH as well. I have a feeling some of my family will want to visit in the hospital (hoping to be in at least a one night as I will be started on heprin (sp) due to family history of blood clots) but not sure if I would rather that it was just us and maybe my parents. We were thinking we would like a couple of days to get used to being parents before family and friends descend on us, but somehow I'm not sure whether this would be feasible (unless baby is born on a weekday )

Just wonderinf if anyone is going to use their carry cot from the pram as a moses basket or is this not suitable? We have bought one which can be used for overnight sleeps etc (it has holes in the mattress and I think in part of the base) so we were considering using this as baby girls moses basket and just buying a stand. However, we are now questioning if this is ok to do or whether we should buy a moses basket - we have limited space so this was our main reason for not buying one.

Well I've been looking at the hospital bag lists and now in a slight panic as the only thing I think I have is dry shampoo !!! Better get buying. Have my first antenatal class this coming week so hopefully I will feel more 'prepared' for labour so that I can write some kind of birthing plan which I know will most likely go out the window when the time comes.

Hope everyone is having a good day

We are using our carrycot too as long as you have a proper mattress for it it's fine x

Rups he might mean the Cvs/amino which is offered as a follow up to a high risk result from the nuchal folds and blood test x

Any one got any links on how to do this moxa moxi thingimagigie. Would need to be able to do myself though as hubby will just look at me like I have gone loon tune and tell me where to go in not very polite terms.
if you ggoogle moxa to turn breech baby lots of websites come up, I've not done any research myself so I don't know if any are better than others (birth a long way off for me yet!). you might need someone to help though as I think some of it involves getting down by your little toe ;) good luck!
  • Afternoon all. I have decided that just reading without posting is too stalkerish so am going to make an effort to post much more, so here goes.

Congratulations thrify gal, mrsmanda and choclover. That sounds like a pretty good birth choclover.

The dress is lovely bikelesschick, you could def bling it up with accessories.

    Welcome Aida, Snowy and Snowbean.

AFM I had my GTT last week and got the results back saying everything is ok. I have got my 28 week appointment with the midwife next week for my bloods again which should be fun as my veins are really deep so they often have to have a few goes at getting blood out. They ended up taking it out of my hands  for the GTT and one of them is still really sore so hopefully the midwife won't have to do that on Wednesday.

I thought we were going to end up at the hospital this morning. I seem to be carrying really low and yesterday was really uncomfortable as there was loads of pressure in my pelvic area. This morning was still the same but when I got out of bed I had quite a lot of pain right across my stomach and couldn't feel him moving at all. Normally eating or drinking something sweet gets him moving (like mother like son :rotfl:) so I sent my oh to the cake shop for a nice cake to eat to see if that would get him moving.

After about 20 mins I suddenly felt loads of movement, the pressure completely disappeared and I could feel him as normal so I am not sure where he was in there but obviously somewhere I couldn't feel him. I am trying really hard not to be neurotic but it is very difficult when you don't feel them move as normal.

Well that was a huge post sorry.

Yay I finally caught up! Sorry I've been absent the last week or so but we had a long weekend away last weekend which was BLISS. Just me and the OH, no phones (mine had no reception and his ran out of battery and I didn't pack his charger) and no bl00dy decorating mess. Felt mega relaxed until the drive home which took it out of me a bit.

And then yesterday I caught a tummy bug! Has not been nice, bad tummy and throwing up. Spent all of yesterday in bed and I've stayed there today as well but the sickness and tummy has stopped and I've managed toast today. Can't seem to get comfortable as when I sit up I feel faint where I haven't eaten much and when I lie down either the baby makes me feel uncomfortable or I get heartburn! Feel better today than yesterday though so hopefully on the mend.

Went to our first NCT antenatal class on Tuesday and I really enjoyed it! There were 6 other couples all from the same area and they all seem nice. Learnt loads about posture and trying to get the baby in the right position in the lead-up, and looking forward to the next session on Monday.

In other news, one of my closest friends has just announced that she is getting married -- on 26th August, which is 15 days after my due date... And she's holding her hen night on my actual due date. So we'll be playing all of that by ear!

Am 33 weeks today and have started getting really panicky over the last few days. Had to get OH to stop the DVD we were watching last weekend so I could have a cry -- and it was nothing to do with the film, we were watching Harry Potter! I'm not scared about the birth at the moment, it's the whole bit after. The baby is so wriggly in my tummy and it is reminding me that it will actually be here in just a few short weeks and how the hell will I know what to do with it?? Stupidly watched 16 and Pregnant this afternoon and that didn't help either.

3 weeks left at work!!!! Am on serious countdown, I can't believe how much I'm struggling, even with my lovely maternity cover lady. I've started making my list for while I'm off and I'm not ashamed to say it includes waxing and a pedicure as well as practical stuff like getting my hospital bag ready (also shopping for the contents) and washing the baby's clothes.

Ooh one quick question. I think I saw on this thread something about a padded mat to kneel on while you're bathing your baby. It was from Amazon and about a tenner. Of course I can't find the blimmin thing now, so any pointers in the right direction would be very much appreciated please!

Hope everyone's having a lovely weekend. Congratulations to the new babies and lovely to see you again Rups x

after how many weeks do you start feeling movement inside you? i am still only over 13 weeks so i probably have ages. That would freak me out, feeling stuff and then not feeling. if you stop feeling movement, do you head to the GP or hospital or something? so many things to think about!!

Thanks chrissy. lovely to read your post too. :)

some women at work have left for maternity and one of them is due in July with twins. heard from her the other day and she said she was scared now coming to the labour bit. think that woiuld scare me too but i will think about it nearer the time.

was starving so DH and I went to our local cafe and i had a fry-up. i am such a pig. i havent had one in ages so had a sausage, bacon, egg (well cooked), and beans and i toasted bread. i left the mushrooms. i seem to be forever hungry though. Before i could never finish fry-ups but nowadays i can manage and stil want more!!!

DH rang one if his aunts to tell her about us, and this aunt is always obsessing about weight, so when she spoke to me, she told me to be sensible (with food of course) and also make sure that DH is slim. i know i have to eat well but i am still feel nausea so whatever i can think of on the spot goes. i do want to eat well though. any tips please? :A

Most women with their first baby feel movements between about 18 and 23 weeks. At first there won't be any pattern as baby is still small enough that you won't feel a lot of the movements especially if he/she gets into an awkward position. My midwife said not to worry about movements until about 28 weeks. If you are worried about movement then give your midwife or maternity unit a ring. Often they will tell you to firstly drink something cold and eat something like chocolate then lie on your side for an hour and count how many movements you can feel but again this will tend to be later on.

If you have an anterior placenta (one that's at the front) you may feel movements later than others as the baby will be kicking against that. They will note the location of you placenta at the anomoly scan.

Movement for me was about week 15-16 but I was early. My sister didn't feel until 24 weeks. Depends on a lot of things how early. It takes you a bit to wonder what it is! Feels like wind or a spasming muscle and it takes time to put 2 and 2 together. For me what the clincher was - was that it was the same time of day I felt it. That and the wind feeling produced no rumbles below lol. Due to how light the movements are they don't worry about counting moves or if you have felt nothing until after 24 weeks I think it is. I wouldn't start looking for any form of movement before 16 weeks tbh and deffo not getting concerned in any way until whey after the 20 week scan. It depends on: placenta position. I don't feel any movement high up on one side still as it cushions everything. Also on how thin you are - if your super skinny you might feel sooner rather than if you have lots of padding :-D And also how body aware you are. Some people just concrentrate on themselves more. If you have had a busy day babe may still have been moving lots but you may not have noticed due to being busy. But that more applies to after the 24 weeks tbh. At your stage. Be aware of when they start and don't worry until after.

Rebekah, maybe pm BB and ask? Know she's not long had her LO but if she comes on here she can give you the info you need about moxibustion! It worked for her x

Hiya kittycat, I had exactly what you are describing at 28 weeks! The pain down low in pelvis, then shooting pains over my belly, baby not moving as much. It lasted all night, so I had a bath and went to bed to sleep it off. Woke up feeling fine, baby moving as normal! Spoke to midwife not long after at 30 weeks I think and she said baby was then head down and this pain was probably him moving into position. He's been that way ever since. I remember it vividly though as it wasn't the normal niggles, it was really painful!

Rups, I got first movements around 20 weeks and proper kicks not until about 24 weeks, but every one is so different! As emsbet said, if you're worried about their movements the midwife will tell you to drink a big glass of cold water/juice to get them wriggling which always works for my bubba!

OH was watching Man vs Food and now fancies a burger so he's gone to get dinner! I'm being semi-good and having chicken kebab with salad :)

    Happy Saturday Night everyone! x

grrr i wrote a message and it vanished!!! aghhhhh

ok now i cant remember the whole of it..:(

thanks for the info about the movements. i just wondered when it would start even though everyone is different. i was chatting to my younger brother earlier and got excited and i felt my belly go funny. lol.

told DH off earlier as he has been telling his side of the family our news and starts off by saying that they may have noticed me getting bigger and it is not him letting me go. seriously the obsession with weight is him and his side's thing. annoys me slightly...

i wanted to ask about the next visits to the midwife and GP please? how many times does one have to see them after the 12-13 week scan? i was reminded to book my 16 week appointment with the midwife but am not sure when to see the GP and what happens next? all i know is i have to book my 16 week appointment and then a 20 week scan. how confusing!! the notes havent got much in them either!!! hmm.. help please? :) hope this message doesnt vanish!
