moneypuddle - i think you were saying you work for the nhs and only get to carry 5 AL days over. i also work for the nhs and will be taking 2 weeks annual leave before my due date - in the nhs you have to go on mat leave from your due date - but then i am carrying a month of annual leave over which i will take at the end of my mat leave. my manager is fine with this.
It was me who works for the NHS. Our trust policy says five days only, although my manager is happy to carry it all over for me. She retires in April whilst I'll still be on maternity leave so I'm worried it'll get "lost"
Hugs for the nasty hips
Thanks Nora for the breast feeding info.

Sounds promising mrs manda, hope things get going for you soon - let us know when you're heading in!
As for deliveries, I've always found HDN absolutely useless, personally! Royal Mail better, although they've been coming later and later. Today I've had one delivery from TNT, and one from some other company. Still waiting in for Yodel, who have never failed to be anything other than useless!

After lurking on this thread for so long, it's probably time I say 'hi'. I'm 21+6 and have my 20wk scan this Tues. Really looking forward to seeing the baby again
We only have an approx. EDD of 14th October as baby wouldn't stop still and MW couldn't get an accurate measurement at dating scan. I'm secretly hoping baby won't stay still again so we can have an extra scan!:jBaby girl born 3rd October 2012:j0 -
I'm treating myself to cranberry juice in a wine glass along with some mini chocolate brownies. Little man obviously approves. He's going crazy. Ha ha.
I figured we deserved a naughty treat after the day we had.Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £1.42 Dec24

Re breastfeeding and different techniques
When I was in the labour ward, all they did was tell me the baby's mouth had to be wide open, make your nipple pointy, grab the baby by the back of the neck, wait til baby starts howling, shove baby's mouth over nipple, hope for the best. And then tell you that you weren't doing it right.
This happened with my first too! Every volunteer at the hospital told me completely different things so I was utterly confused. They let me go home because with the help of a midwife I was able to express about 5mls of milk into a syringe which she then feed to my daughter. The community midwife wasn't due to visit until she was 4 days old - which was way too long! We were out of hospital for 2 days and after my nipples started to bleed I gave up and we gave her formula - i think she had 120mls! But later that night she was just crying constantly and she wouldn't take from the bottle - I was still exhausted and sore and in the end we took her back to hospital (to a different one) where they discovered she was dehydrated (no surprise there really) and had an infection. Immediately they gave me some formula to feed her with (using a NUK teat which is fantastic) and she took to it straight away. Obviously at this stage it was more important for her to start feeding than it was to breastfeed.
It's amazing the different levels of care that you receive at different hospitals - the second one was fantastic and can only fault the nurse for thinking I needed to be checked over by the doctor when I wasn't even admitted to hospital. They told me how often baby should be feeding, how much, what to look for in her nappy etc - I received none of this advice at the hospital where she was born.
Even with all those troubles, I'm going to try breastfeeding again - and now we've moved to a different part of the country - I'm going to a hospital where the midwives are very supportive and visit every day for about a week. And if it doesn't work out I'll know I've done all I can and it won't bother me in the slightest if I have to bottle feed (although I bought an electric pump so I can express if baby has difficulty latching on).£2013 in 2013 £866.71/£2013

Right well its gone 9 pm and no delivery
So annoying, spent the whole day on edge listening for the front door! (we don't have a door bell)
No idea if it'll turn up tomorrow or what....
Still, our new bedroom blinds did arrive, and DH and I put them up this evening. They're blackout blinds and make the bedroom sooo dark...! (duh!) Also the plumber came round and finished hooking up our new shower, our upstairs bathroom is finished now
Has anyone else noticed how many boys there are on the list?! Hardly any pink bundles expected, strange.

Breastfeeding is one of those things that you can be shown a million times in a million different ways but until you actually do it no one knows what will work best for you and your baby,
With my DS1 I can remember laying in the hospital bed after giving birth, bleeding horrifically and having to have clots manually removed with a whole team of peeping toms on stand-by, OH had gone home and my parents had to come to the hospital so both were in the room with me - dignity was hanging by a thread at that point and a horrible woman who i had never met before marched up to me and pulled my nipple like it was a go-go-gadget attachment and shoved it in baby's mouth  needless to say her method didnt really work out well for me. After a couple of weeks of howling through every feed and cracked bleeding nipples that wouldnt heal (mastitus too) I gave up and expressed for him. That lasted until he was 6 months ish when I started to top up with formula,
With DS2 I had such a lovely birth and the midwife took the time to show me how to feed in a couple of different ways, he took to it straight away and even now I remember what a fantastic feeling it was sat having cuddles whilst he fed, i still kick myself now that i didnt ever get that with ds1 !
The only thing that stuck in my mind with regards to feeding was to make sure they have an open mouth when they approach the nipple, it should hit the roof of the mouth and then they close it. NOT as i was doing first time round which was allowing him to suck it in like a bit of spaghettiif you aim for the bottom lip to hit at the bottom part of the aerola that leaves the rest of the nipple to fill the mouth.

My morning sickness seems to be hitting me with a vengenance lately.
I'm not actually throwing up, just really nauseous but I have a severe phobia of throwing up and it's really affecting me but I doubt any GP will give me anti-sickness medication because I'm not actually throwing up.

Morning all!
Just had my morning belly massage from daft cat so of course needed a wee!
WelcomeBikeless chick often see you over on the grocery thread.
LadyM no harm in asking, especially with your history. Sometimes nausea is worse than actual vomiting. Sometimes I find after vomiting I do feel better....if that makes sense, I'm sure you've tried ginger biscuits etc. Hugs anyway, hopefully it'll settle soon and the GP can give you something to relieve it.
BB glad your blinds have come, at least one of the three things was delivered! Do you think it'll come today?
Thank you for all the bf tips. Will have to make a note of them. Sounds like there's not a standard method as such so hopefully I'll have a patient midwife to help.
Now I've decided I've got heartburn argh! Taken some ranitidine so hope it kicks in soon. Right I'm going to close my eyes again and snooze, way to early to be up.
Hope everyone Has slept well and happy weekend:j Baby boy arrived 22nd August 2012 :j
