OH is normally so supportive but he's being uselwss at the minute, and driving me mad. He doesn't lift a finger around the house, even though he's on a week off at the minute and I've only got two days off between now and October when I go on maternity. He doesn't even pick the post up off the mat! I swear I give up! :(

Thank you all for your encouraging words, you're very lovely ladies :) Feeling much more organised and now looking forward to having baby cuddles soon :j

Have to agree, Boots disposable knickers ended up being used my OH for Jedward impressions on his head as they certainly wouldn't go over my !!!! today. Glad I checked before I go to hospital!

BB1984 - figs are fruit therefore one slice of cake = one of your five a day :T plus they're good for keeping you regular. Probably best to have 2 slices.

I hope you enjoyed a pamper session getting your hair done Triangle. My friend is an ex-hairdresser and does my hair (very MSE - I feed her in exchange :D) and she's going to come round on Saturday and do an emergency colour so that I don't have (ahem) fairy dust (it's NOT grey hair) on the new baby photos.

Happy due date Mrs Manda I hope things get going for you soon.

Good luck to everyone having monitoring and scans etc.

Well I went to the hospital and was there for 4 hours!! Wee test is fine, bloods were fine, ECG fine. So they said if I'm still getting heart palpatations to go to my GP next week and ask them to investigate. So no idea. Still, did get to go on a lovely tour of the hospital! :D They did keep mentioning I'd get these symptoms if I don't eat enough. I nearly had a tantrum....I'm naturally small - it's not because I don't bloody eat!

Got my boobs measured (not at the hospital) and I'm a 36D now. And bump was measured and he's spot on the 50th line. :D This is excellent news given we see the consultant next Friday to check babies growth - they are rather concerned about it due to test results early on in pregnancy.

I was wondering this too ...

    Re breastfeeding and different techniques

When I was in the labour ward, all they did was tell me the baby's mouth had to be wide open, make your nipple pointy, grab the baby by the back of the neck, wait til baby starts howling, shove baby's mouth over nipple, hope for the best. And then tell you that you weren't doing it right. So I had to get a midwife to get the baby to latch on every time the baby needed feeding. It was very frustrating. They also said they didn't want me to go home because I hadn't figured out how to breastfeed by myself yet. I actually insisted on going home because I was so exhausted from lack of sleep over the previous 3 nights (2 labouring, one in the post-labour ward) and actually took to giving the baby a bottle of formula half way through my first night at home because she howled constantly all night and I couldn't breastfeed her.

The following morning, 2 community midwives turned up at my door. They took me and DH up to the bedroom, lay me down on my side, lay the baby opposite me, (her nose opposite my nipple, her feet close to my body, her head further away, so she is lying diagonally while I am lying perfectly straight) and then used the "twist and point" technique. Twist the nipple to make it pointy, touch against baby's nose, when they open their mouth, move baby's head (quickly) over breast while pointing the nipple towards the roof of the mouth. They said no point in attempting while baby is crying?? which was the complete opposite of what they said in hospital. The important thing is that they taught DH what proper latching-on looks like, because I can't see it because her head and my boob are in the way of seeing things properly. I only know by how it feels. Anyway, each subsequent attempt got easier and easier. Some babies instinctively know how to latch on, some don't. My baby definitely doesn't! But she is learning and so are we. Midwives came back out the following day and checked to see how we were doing with the breastfeeding and the ridiculous amount of painkillers I am on compliments of the forceps delivery. They are back out again tomorrow and have said they'll teach me the sitting up position next Monday once we have all got the hang of the lying-down position first. Milk came in today, which took longer than usual but hardly surprising considering how little she fed in the first 2 days. It's pretty much like water!

Thanks for the tips about the clothing in the moses basket, she was slightly better yesterday and better again today for sleeping in the basket so fingers crossed things will continue to improve in the sleep department!

Emsbet, she weighed 7lbs 4 ozs, after being told at scans, etc that she was in the 90th percentile for weight and height and would probably weigh 8 1/2 to 9 pounds on due date. She is quite long and skinny though, she is 50cm in height, really long legs and feet! Don't want to give her name because it's a bit different and I don't want to give my identity away!

This is advice re maternity rights including leave. There was a test case a few years ago regarding the inability to take annual leave due to sick leave which the employer used to try and forfeit the leave. This link also has some really interesting FAQs that you can wave at your employer if you get any problems with taking annual leav

    HTH someone.

Baby is very wiggly at the moment, got MW this week and growth scan next week with consultant (will be 6/7 scans now!) so lots going on on the baby front. babys room is ready, all clothes washed, have spring cleaned the house and upto date on laundry. really hope its not my bodies way of telling me something is going to happen soon as its way too early for that.

I only have 12 working days left- 1 will be a training day and 1 a half day so only 10.5 days in the office! Very scared now!

so much to read through i have already forgot the thousands of comments i wanted to make.

moneypuddle - i think you were saying you work for the nhs and only get to carry 5 AL days over. i also work for the nhs and will be taking 2 weeks annual leave before my due date - in the nhs you have to go on mat leave from your due date - but then i am carrying a month of annual leave over which i will take at the end of my mat leave. my manager is fine with this.

re knickers, i also am taking old knickers to use, dont fancy the paper ones.

breastfeeding - i attended a workshop last night at out local hospital it was really good. makes me feel a lot more positive about breastfeeding and more relaxed about it. breast feeding shouldnt hurt if you are doing it correctly and i really hope you ladies have decent midwifes to help you with this because its a shame if baby misses out on breastmilk because there is no proper teaching.
was pleased to hear our local hospital run a drop in breastfeeding clinic so if you have any probs after going home you can go and get help there.
its really funny they use a knitted breast for demos hehe
plus it was really nice to meet pregnant women in real life lol

savage - i think most people have already said the same thing but i wouldnt go at that stage in pregnancy. i went on holiday to belgium at 30 weeks via eurostar and really enjoyed it but think even a week or so later would have struggled more.

was feeling sorry for myself today, bump really expanding and starting to plod. now struggling to put my knickers/trousers on in the morning as i get hip pain grrr. all i can think is 7 weeks to go from monday.

off to skegness with some girlie friends tomorrow, hope i can cope with the hour and a half drive, even though i am a passenger sitting down that long really gives me back pain

on a positive note - feeling more mumsy, keep walking into babys nursery- makes me smile :)
