I'm all the way up in Yorkshire hun, my sister in law lives in Southampton though and my OH is from Bath lol. I think I'm going to ask my midwife about if there's anything similar local to us up here as it sounds really beneficial and although some of the things such as epidural are things I wouldn't want anyway the fact I'm not allowed them is making me worry my labour might be a little bit restricted and therefore I might struggle a little.
I already know I want quite an active birth and I don't want to be laid on my back so learning different movements and postures etc would help massively too.
Perhaps it's Kitten_Pie that's near me then? I know someone was talking about shopping in Southampton recently.... Brain's bad these days but not completely dead!
But do ask around about natural births, and google it. You can get books too. The main guy is Yehudi Gordon. He started the active birth movement in the 70s I think.
It's worth bearing in mind though, that we have far less neonatal and maternal problems mainly because we have a higher level of medical intervention during pregnancy and labour. Despite the idea that we've been giving birth behind bushes for 10,000 years with no problems, it's an indisputable fact that far more of those women (and their babies) died than happens nowadays. I'm all for breathing my baby out whilst listening to whale music but the minute someone says 'your baby's in distress' I'm having a c-section!"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

If you're on the west side, I came across a Manchester based course re hypnobirthing recently, could dig out the info for you if you wanted? I think it's one of the NCT ladies (but my mind could be going...!)I'm all the way up in Yorkshire hun
No, my mind's not going; it is one of the NCT ladies and she's the one that does an antenatal yoga class which I'm thinking of going to! Let me know if you want more info.0 -
Hey all, not read back properly but just wanted to chirp in about employment rights during mat leave.
The only T&C that is changeable by law is pay, so that means you still accrue (and are entitled to take) annual leave, bank holidays, normal sickness rights etc, although pg sickness gives you until 36weeks pg, which is better. My employer just sought legal advice over this as they did not allow you to take annual leave or bank holidays, until my boss (who was new in post), queried it.
Hopefully everyone has had a nice weekend and its not been too hot for you.

Congratulations to Hannah! Pleased to hear your birth wasn't too traumatic, and hope you're enjoying your little girl.
Fluffnutter I may live near you - it was me that went shopping in Southampton the other day (I'm actually going there for a course on Thursday and Friday too), but it's a 50 minute drive from where I live (I'm still on the coast, but in West Sussex).
I'm liking a lot of the names I'm hearing, but not sure about Blake either as I've been watching Home and Away since I was a child, and there used to be a character in that called Blake, and I was never very keen on him.
Boiling hot and sweaty here, and have been working with some argumentative Year 6s today, so I'm off to jump in the shower and make myself feel a bit more human before babysitting at 6pm. Working all day tomorrow in the nice school I was in on Thursday, so pleased about that, and when Moon gets home, I'm going to quickly eat before heading out. Hopefully the parents won't be out too long as it's a parents' evening, but not really sure how long they take in private schools. Still, it's all extra money, so I'm not complaining, especially as the cat is due his vaccinations in June and my car insurance is due then too.
Hugs for all who need or want them, and labour vibes where appropriate.

I'm all for breathing my baby out whilst listening to whale music but the minute someone says 'your baby's in distress' I'm having a c-section!
I'm the same, I put a post up recently about my rough birth plan that pretty much said - be as active as possible, minimum time spent on my back and to try use gas and air as my only source of pain relief but if necessary i would be willing to have other pain relief and assistance if it was of benefit to me or the baby. Then they put me on these injections and said I can't have an epidural or a spinal block so I'm wondering if that would mean a c-section would have to be general anesthetic? I think that's what is worrying more that I will miss out on that skin to skin contact at the first start if there are problems.
I think the best thing for me is going to be look into the classes and methods, even if I don't get to use them just to know them will probably offer some relief and talk to my midwife about it because I'm sure I can't be the first person to be on these injections so hopefully she will be able to put my mind at rest. You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.
xx Mama to a gorgeous Cranio Baby xx
