Congratulations to Hannah! Pleased to hear your birth wasn't too traumatic, and hope you're enjoying your little girl.

Fluffnutter I may live near you - it was me that went shopping in Southampton the other day (I'm actually going there for a course on Thursday and Friday too), but it's a 50 minute drive from where I live (I'm still on the coast, but in West Sussex).

I'm liking a lot of the names I'm hearing, but not sure about Blake either as I've been watching Home and Away since I was a child, and there used to be a character in that called Blake, and I was never very keen on him.

Boiling hot and sweaty here, and have been working with some argumentative Year 6s today, so I'm off to jump in the shower and make myself feel a bit more human before babysitting at 6pm. Working all day tomorrow in the nice school I was in on Thursday, so pleased about that, and when Moon gets home, I'm going to quickly eat before heading out. Hopefully the parents won't be out too long as it's a parents' evening, but not really sure how long they take in private schools. Still, it's all extra money, so I'm not complaining, especially as the cat is due his vaccinations in June and my car insurance is due then too.

Hugs for all who need or want them, and labour vibes where appropriate.

Perhaps it's Kitten_Pie that's near me then? I know someone was talking about shopping in Southampton recently.... Brain's bad these days but not completely dead!

But do ask around about natural births, and google it. You can get books too. The main guy is Yehudi Gordon. He started the active birth movement in the 70s I think.

It's worth bearing in mind though, that we have far less neonatal and maternal problems mainly because we have a higher level of medical intervention during pregnancy and labour. Despite the idea that we've been giving birth behind bushes for 10,000 years with no problems, it's an indisputable fact that far more of those women (and their babies) died than happens nowadays. I'm all for breathing my baby out whilst listening to whale music but the minute someone says 'your baby's in distress' I'm having a c-section!

I'm the same, I put a post up recently about my rough birth plan that pretty much said - be as active as possible, minimum time spent on my back and to try use gas and air as my only source of pain relief but if necessary i would be willing to have other pain relief and assistance if it was of benefit to me or the baby. Then they put me on these injections and said I can't have an epidural or a spinal block so I'm wondering if that would mean a c-section would have to be general anesthetic? I think that's what is worrying more that I will miss out on that skin to skin contact at the first start if there are problems.

I think the best thing for me is going to be look into the classes and methods, even if I don't get to use them just to know them will probably offer some relief and talk to my midwife about it because I'm sure I can't be the first person to be on these injections so hopefully she will be able to put my mind at rest.

If you're on the west side, I came across a Manchester based course re hypnobirthing recently, could dig out the info for you if you wanted? I think it's one of the NCT ladies (but my mind could be going...!)

No, my mind's not going; it is one of the NCT ladies and she's the one that does an antenatal yoga class which I'm thinking of going to! Let me know if you want more info.

I'm in Leeds hun, any info would be great.

Yay ikkle!! I missed it, it was out of stock by the time I got there. Hoping there will be another sale before September.

You have probably planned things right, if you leave it all until the end although you will have the time but physically it will be hard.

I've washed all my nappies so they're ready for action...they still have so very slight p*ssy aroma though...how do I get rid? Labels say wash at 30-40 and don't use fabric conditioner.

I'm just going to send you a PM of a document I copied from the fb group 4nnabella mentioned "cloth bum mums" that is about how to get rid of different smells from reusable nappies. Hopefully it will help.

Ikkle, have you had a consultation with an anaesthetist? I had been told that gas & air was my only option unless baby became distressed in which case I'd have to have an emergency C-section under a general.
I'd kind of made peace with the idea though was really upset about the idea of a GA - partly because of missing the immediate skin to skin contact but also a worry that I'll feel like baby isn't mine because I'll go to sleep pregnant and wake up being handed a baby.

My obstetrician referred me to the obstetric anaesthetist so there was a clearer plan. He was wonderful, took a detailed history, looked at my notes and discussed everything with me. His opinion was that an epidural would be fine, it'd just require a bit more careful planning than usual and if I needed a c-section they'd use an increase dose through the epidural rather than a GA (he was still of the opinion a spinal would be a bad idea).

I'm still going to try to stick with the gas and air because I hate the thought of more needles - everyone I dealt with from the midwives to the anaesthetist has suggested that an active birth is the best way of ensuring labour goes well - walking around, bouncing on a ball, squatting and kneeling and NOT lying down :p
But it's reassuring there is more than one plan should it be required.

Has anyone ordered their pram yet?

Im thinking about the Silver Cross 3d from Babies R Us as we get the Ventura car seat for free (normally £125), so thats £299 all in. Does that seem like a good deal? http://www.toysrus.co.uk/Babies-R-Us/Travel-and-Pushchairs/Travel-Systems-and-Pushchairs/Pushchairs-and-Strollers/Silver-Cross-3D-Pram-System-Charcoal(0069639)

I've not seen an anesthetist yet hun no, basically the injections mean I'm not to have anything which involves placing a needle in/near my spine. I've just got the same fear as you that I will need a c-section and I will get a GA and miss the birth and skin to skin contact.

I really want a natural birth if possible with Gas and Air, hopefully my body and the baby will comply x
