Hello All:j
Sorry it's taken me ages to get back on her, our little baby girl arrived eventually on 18th May ar 12.17am. She is gorgeous. Quick run down of birth:
Went into hospital to be induced with propess pessary, pessary inserted at 3:15pm, had to be monitored for an hour and monitor showed a couple of conctractions, then was told to walk around and come back every hour for 6 hours. Sent hubby home as expected to be in for the long haul. Started getting really bad constant pains, went back for my first check at 5:30pm and midwife said things are going well, told her I was in so much pain and I must be such a wimp because this is only the beginning of labour. She advised me to have a bath and get into a comfortable position to ease the pain. Text hubby who came back, had a bath and then threw up over myself in it! Couldn't get comfy as pain was constant. At about 7:30pm I started feeling dizzy, OH was worried so called for midwife, had about 4 running in, blood pressure was checked and it was dangerously high. Asked them to examine me to see what was happening. They did this and I was already 5cm, was given gas and air which was lovely! I had a cathetar put in as I couldn't wee even though I had a full bladder also had an IV thing put in my hand as they wanted to give me an epidural to bring my blood pressure down.
Felt heavy feeling down below, was examined again (approx 10 mins after first examination) and I was 9cm. Was wheeled round to labour ward and immediately felt the need to push. This was about 9:30pm, continued pushing for 2 and half hours before she was born at 12.17am. At one point I was going to have the sucky thing used on her to bring her out but then the dr got called away to an emergency so that didn't happen. They injected me ready to cut me to help baby out but unfortunately the final push I did meant the baby came out in one go so ended up with a 2nd degree tear.
Birth sounds quite traumatic but it actually wasn't that bad, I didn't get the epidural as everything happend so quickly. Did the whole thing on gas and air and gave up with that at the end as it kind of lost its effect on me! I didn't find the pain that bad even when I pushed the head out and tore, it was just the pressure that was difficult to deal with and trying to get good pushes out of each contraction! I am a complete wuss so proud of myself! Also did about 8 poos with all the pushing, kept on apologising to the midwife! Literally lost all dignity!
We came home the same day at about 4:30pm. Was in a lot of discomfort first few days as I had bad piles but feeling a lot better now.
Had quite bad baby blues, breastfeeding was an issue for me as although she latched on and fed really well, I just found it so painful, got to the point where I was dreading her waking up as it meant I would have to feed her. She weighed 8lbs 7oz and is a pretty hungry baby! Decided yesterday to give up on the breastfeeding as I felt it was affecting my relationship with her and I feel much better for it. Going to talk to midwife today as yesterday was quite a bad day and think it will help to get feelings off my chest.
Anyway dont think I'm going to have time to catch up on 10 days worth of posts so I hope everyone is ok.

I really hate made up names as well, we ended writing a shortlist and then going through the last baby names stats released by the ONS (2010) and ruling out anything too high up. 2 of my nieces are called Isabelle and Emily and even though they're really pretty names there are so many of them! I want my baby to have a less common name (but still a real one, I can't be doing with these made up names, or ones that are really surnames!) as my name is a little unusual, and I like that I hardly ever meet another one (Juliette)!
Our top 2s are Laurence (Laurie)/Arthur and Charlotte (Lottie)/Eleanor (Ellie), DH and I each prefer one of the 2, so will come down to which one feels most appropriate one the day (and whether I get my way) . Middle names will be Malcolm John for a boy and Josephine Ann for a girl.

forgot to mention, I picked up a nappy bargain at Sainsburys yesterday. There was a £2 off Pampers voucher in the bounty pack (the first one) which I used on the Pampers Newborn nappies which are on offer in Sainsbury for £2.49 (so picked up a pack for 49p) - then got a till spit for another £2 when buying 2 packs so could get another 2 packs for £2.98.
Hope that makes sense, its too hot to think and i need a napBow Ties ARE cool "Just because you are offended, doesnt mean you are right" Ricky Gervais0 -
I know that I have no way of writing proper links, but w.w.w.paternityangel .com is a good website, I've found. It has lots of information for dads, and a very good baby name database.
As for me, I'm not even pregnant and I'm struggling in the heat. Went over the road to get an ice cream at lunch and nearly fainted. Well, you did talk about having one, I had to join in. And yes, my DW is getting one too! Don't know how you all cope with being pregnant, having a huge bump to carry round, and then all that in this heat...Having fun trying to save money without going over the top and living on budget food all the time...0 -
Congrats Hannah!
My biggest fear of labour is tearing, not much you can do to prevent it though, if its going to happen it'll happen.

Congratulations Hannah! xx
Mishka - thanks for posting about that I got given another Bounty pack in hospital last week so will send OH out to get a pack, he gets staff discount too so will make them even cheaper. Don't think I've spent £1 on nappies yet and I've got over 300 lol.
Also 25% off clothes including sale items starts at Sainsburys tomorrow for anyone looking to stock up on a few bits. You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.
xx Mama to a gorgeous Cranio Baby xx

Thanks all, I wont be posting her name as it's really unusual and means that I will be easily identifiable!
Betty101: I didn't even feel the tear, it honestly was not that bad and I had a dr stitching me up for about 45 minutes and I haven't even felt the stitches, only pain down below was my piles!0 -
twinklie 25 weeks, that feels like its flown by!
little_miss_m, you cannot be MADE to start your mat leave at 29 weeks, even if ill, although your employer has the right to suggest it. If it is a pregnancy related illness you can be made to start your mat leave at 36 weeks. I was signed off sick for 6 weeks with a non-pregnancy related illness (weeks 29-35), glad to be on mat leave proper now. I wouldn't feel bad about it, you may want to taper your return for example so that extra leave will come in handy. I think your boss probably has the wrong end of the stick, I had to explain to my line manager too.
hannah congrats and thanks for posting your birth story.
Am 36 weeks + 3 today. Feeling much better now than was a few weeks ago. Making sure I put my feet up for at least 2 hours a day, and taking pride in the small things I get done. Today - a washload, laundry put away, a small shop done, collecting DD from school, and emailed a few friends. And will have to squeeze a few ice pops in there too
