I've just changed over to this tariff from the Winter saver one and have just received a letter today saying "Thank you for changing energy products etc.... AS your gas supply is maintained by an Independant Gas Transporter instead of National Grid(formerly Transco) it costs us more to supply. We like to be open to our customers so don't hide these costs in our unit prices and only pass them on to the customers they affect.
An additional charge or £42 per year(inc VAT) will be added to your bill to cover these costs. This will be split across the year and works out at less than 12p aday.
We've included our new T&C's . Please let us know within the next 14 days if you change your mind"

My discounts are 3% Direct Debit,3% Dual Fuel,3% Dual Fuel Direct Debit & 15.20% Energy Online Extra Saver.
My Gas/Elec bill is only about £400 per year, so its got me thinking if this is a good move for me ?

Call powergen and ask them to compare this to EnergyGuarantee - As on this product you don't get charged the IGT Charge (£42 a year). So it might work out cheaper for you.

Just a tip - Energyonline Extra Saver you will pay the IGT Charge, Energy Guarantee you won't.

Go for the energy online extra - Will work out with the highest discount for you at the moment :)

Thanks Gal - an extra 2% discount - just swopped!

AND I've reduced my d/d by £15 pcm as I was still in credit even in the winter.

May be able to reduce it some more when the prices come down.

I'm now paying less with Powergen for gas and electricity than I was just for gas with Scottish Power 18 months ago.

    Thanks Gal again.

  • I thought I'd try to clear up some confusion regarding the amount of discount on the EnergyOnline Winter Saver/Extra Saver tariffs.

Since this offer was introduced in November last year their have been 3 different offers. The first one ran between 6/11/06 - 19/12/06 and on this you receive a additional discount of 5% (16% discount total) until 31/01/08. The next one ran between 20/12/06 - 31/01/07 and on this you also receive a 16% discount, this time until 31/03/08. To make it more confusing both of these offers were called EnergyOnline Winter Saver.

The current offer in place is known as EnergyOnline Extra Saver. On this you get an additional discount until 31/07/08, however the amount varies depending on which region you live in:

    Eastern - 15%
    East Midlands - 15%
    London - 16%
    Manweb - 17%
    Midlands - 18%
    Northern - 19%
    Norweb - 15%
    Scottish Hydro - 18%
    Scottish Power - 17%
    Seeboard - 16%
    Southern - 17%
    Swalec - 16%
    Sweb - 16%
    Yorkshire - 19%

Therefore if you live in Manweb, Midlands, Northern, Scottish hydro, Scottish Power, Southern or Yorkshire you will be better off on the new Extra Saver rather than the Winter Saver.

    Hope all that makes sense.

As Gal has already mentioned these discounts changed again about 3 days after my post. If you had previously switched on to EnergyOnline Extra Saver then the new discounts will automatically be applied.

I'll try to post the correct discounts in the next couple of days.

  • Hi

I live in Dorset, Southern England, and I was on the Winter Saver tariff. I contacted Powergen by e-mail to ask them if I would be better off on the Extra Saver and they replied as follows:

"I have looked at your account and can see that EnergyOnline Extra Saver tariff would be a financial benefit to you.

You were currently reciving 16 percent discount. However I have now put you onto our EnergyOnline Extra Saver tariff which is now giving you 23.1 percent discount your unit prices will remain the same."

    Hope this helps someone.

    Hi
Do I understand this correctly, that I can just call them and get the discount.
I moved into a new build in November which is with powergen and have just told them my name etc and stayed on basis charging plan (17p for first 225 then less for the rest) so far I havent had a bill yet, but I;m sure I can find a customer number from somewhere. If I call them with my customer number will they put me on the best tariff for me or will I need to have been billed by them so they can see how much I use?
    Thanks

As long as you're eligible then they will put you on it straight away. To be eligible you need to have a single bill for your gas and electricity, pay by monthly DD and have an online account.
