I managed to get through to Powergen this afternoon. For me, it worked out that the Extra Saver was identical to the Winter Saver except that it lasted until July 2008, and not January 2008. Both total discounts amounted to 16%.

I thought I'd try to clear up some confusion regarding the amount of discount on the EnergyOnline Winter Saver/Extra Saver tariffs.
Since this offer was introduced in November last year their have been 3 different offers. The first one ran between 6/11/06 - 19/12/06 and on this you receive a additional discount of 5% (16% discount total) until 31/01/08. The next one ran between 20/12/06 - 31/01/07 and on this you also receive a 16% discount, this time until 31/03/08. To make it more confusing both of these offers were called EnergyOnline Winter Saver.
The current offer in place is known as EnergyOnline Extra Saver. On this you get an additional discount until 31/07/08, however the amount varies depending on which region you live in:
Eastern - 15%
East Midlands - 15%
London - 16%
Manweb - 17%
Midlands - 18%
Northern - 19%
Norweb - 15%
Scottish Hydro - 18%
Scottish Power - 17%
Seeboard - 16%
Southern - 17%
Swalec - 16%
Sweb - 16%
Yorkshire - 19%
Therefore if you live in Manweb, Midlands, Northern, Scottish hydro, Scottish Power, Southern or Yorkshire you will be better off on the new Extra Saver rather than the Winter Saver.
Hope all that makes sense.0 -
That's very helpful Stewie. But why do they make it so complicated - such a long list for differences of 1% or 2%. And why can't they just give it automatically to everyone who qualifies instead of making customers ring up!
I wonder how long before the REAL reductions are announced. Hope they beat BG's 17%

Cheers for this.Just phoned up got an extra 8% off by switching and a £144 rebate so not a bad 2 mins work.
Have to agree though they should do this automatically.
:beer:I have 5 Nationwide referrals available. If you want £100 for switching to Nationwide PM me:beer:0 -

These have changed recently - But unaffected areas for the discounts are Eastern, East Midlands and Norweb areas - These all remain the same.
Other areas have larger discounts - If your already on extra saver these are changed automatically for you so there is no point ringing to check. Just to let you all know.
The highest discount area is Manweb who now see a 24% Discount.0 -
thanks a lot fazal. i emailed powergen as i was already on their online tariff(11%) discount. They replied saying that they have now put me on the online extra discount(just as you stated) and now am on 19% discount on all my quarterly bills. Cheers a lot, I am now saying another 8% of my gas and eletric bills.0

I'm in Cheshire (so North West) and been on the Energy Online tariff for a few years.
I phoned Powergen this morning, having read about their new Energy Online Extra Saver Tariff firstly on Which! then checked on here.
They have increased our discount from 11% to 24%, saving £46pa on Gas and £66pa on Electricity.
Well chuffed with that, and recommended my colleagues check their tariff too. Of course, once everyone has reduced their tariffs, I'll be looking for a possible switch also.

So the information on energyhelpline.com for EnergyOnline Extra Saver is wrong then (this is for a KT5 postcode)?
"Dual fuel direct debit customers receive a discount of 9% off their total annual bill. EnergyOnline Extra Saver customers receive an additional discount of 11.7% off their total annual bill for managing their account online. This discount is guaranteed until at least 31 July 2008. The total discount is 20.7% off the total annual bill."0
