Pastures' gaff, 3rd door along beyond the water pipes and the air conditioning unit. Knock three times and ask for 'Cashier.' ;)

Seriously, I think you're kosher & I imagine the others will too, so I expect Pastures will tell you by PM. :D

I had to evacuate from a B&B I was staying at (working in the area) in the floods of 2000/2001, which was close to there - that year Tewkesbury was completely cut off from the outside world. I'd got up really early and watched the water creeping along the gutter... it's a really creepy thing to watch along a side road and you have to lob fag ends at it etc to even double check it's moving..... eventually got the "everybody out and there's no point coming back ever" shout and used two tesco bags on my feet to get to the car. Place was closed down from that day. I was in Longlevens.

Longlevens is dreadful for flooding, especially the new build bits. :( The really really bad Gloucestershire floods were in 2007: nasty in June and even worse a month later. A guy I work with lives in a village outside Evesham and had flood water about 5ft deep in his house. They were living in a caravan for over a year while the whole place was gutted and everything done from scratch. I spoke to him today: he says it was looking ominous yesterday but better today, although tomorrow may be bad again. We are all hoping for the best for him.

Back in 2007 the actual flood water was a lesser problem (because only affecting some properties) than the flooding of the water treatment plant. Most of Gloucestershire was without tap water for a couple of weeks, and even when the water came back it was another week or so before it was safe to drink. They only just saved the electricity substation, and rumour has it that if we'd had no water and no electricity (and no sewerage because it's electrically pumped) then they were considering evacuating most of the county.

A question for any NP with any knowledge of Birmingham. DS has a hospital appointment at the Edgbaston Hospital at 6:30 on a Monday evening. The Gloucestershire bit of the M5 should be fine, but how long should I allow for getting from the M5/M42 junction to the hospital (at B15 2QQ), and what's the best route at that time of day? Thanks. (It's nothing bad - he has to be examined by a paediatric neurologist who will make a report for the compensation claim. I'm sure he's fine, but because he's a minor, he has to be seen by a doc anyway.)

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I need a simple phone for damage limitation, to be used by a fumbling simple person... is there a limited mobile, where you can only make outgoing calls to pre-programmed numbers... and that has a monthly bill cap? This is for my old, who has suddenly expressed a bizarre desire to "call people"..... so need to limit "who???". Old would be making all kinds of bizarre, inappropriate calls if not locked down.

I will be trying to disallow a phone at all costs....... but if I HAVE to supply one I need to know the options.

Dunno how you limit who she can call, but you can cap the monthly spend by getting PAYG and not telling her how to put money on it. Then you put a limited amount of money on it for her.

He should have mentioned that his son is an Olympic Gold medal winning rower (from Beijing) which would have been a far more interesting chat.

Ooh - we may have a bit of a link. One of my friends used to go out with an Olympic Gold winning rower (quite a while ago)

I'm not related to any rowers (Olympic standard or otherwise) and have never known any, but I did once sit opposite James Cracknell on a flight from LA and got to stare at his lovely legs (in shorts) for 12 hours... Mighty fine they were ladies, mighty fine...
