I
Had fish and chips at the seaside once in Devon - tasted great, bugt never again, tried to eat them in the open waiting for a bus.
It was like a scene from a Hitchcock movie- I'll let you guess which one.
Edit: I found a pensioner killed by seagulls in their garden in Anglesey... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/2097681.stm0 -

A strange thing about growing up in Glasgow was I always believed we must be right by the sea, as there were so many seagulls everywhere.
Someobody had a business which made a good living driving them away.

I think he just followed them from town to town and got hired to keep moving them further on! :cool:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
after some protracted [STRIKE]and often childish arguments[/STRIKE] adult debate, we have finally booked our next holiday (here: www.mantrasamui.com/).
looks quite poncey. i'll see whether i can beat my previous record of not leaving the room for 72 hours.0 -

A good friend of mine used to live in Kuala Lumpur and would frequently holiday in Koh Samui and loved it. The resort looks like a lovely boutique-style hotel, but the way it described itself was trying a bit too hard to be trendy.
You've also left me wondering whether you are going for a room called The WOW, the The Cozy, The Grand or The Love. You strike me as someone who wouldn't like Cozy and may be ever so slightly allergic to the public display of affection that staying in the Love would imply, so hopefully you're going for the Wow or the Grand. All of them look lovely though.
Perhaps though, you are going to stay in "The Love" and beat your previous record of 72 hours. In which case I may say in advance, kudos to your stamina. For the sake of your enjoyment of your holiday time, I hope it is that, and not spending 72 hours in The Cozy sulking.
ETA: on the subject of Sky HD that you asked a couple of pages back, you can get HD for what I thought was £10 per month but is actually £10.25. What you get extra can be viewed here:
http://www.sky.com/shop/tv/high-definition/whats-on/
That should help you decide whether or not it's worth it. Obviously the channels from Sport/Movies etc are extra subscription, but you do also get Eurosport HD. We watched the skiing on that and it was really good, but I guess it depends on what you would watch as to whether it is good value or not. Speak to Sky and they'll be able to take you through the best way of doing it. Since reading on one of the other boards about Sky I never pay full price all year so there are always bargains to be had and its worth checking out those too.
Seriously though, I hope you enjoy beach holidays and have a good one. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? We have lost a small length of guttering on a barn, the back garden fence and trying to make a decision about selling grass or making hay this year.......
I don't make the decisions about hay or grazing, thankfully, and I know it's hay, but whether one cut or two is hard to say.....
One issue we have ATM is that a neighbor's septic tank is malfunctioning and creating a black, oozing spring in the lower field. The drain man (also a farmer) will be along 'dreckly,' which could mean next month at this rate, with all the rain.
Our eggs are going, but not as quickly as the hens are laying, so it looks like more omlettes.
Z, the story about London's fish & chips seems apochryphal or nonsensical to me, considering that:
London has a major fish market.
Even in the 1960s, we could order fish from Hull or Grimsby at 4pm on a weekday and have it here in darkest Devon at 7.30 am the following morning.0 -

In Bath, we had the triple evil of seagulls, pigeons and rats, thanks to namby-pamby thinking, numerous take-aways and a high proportion of the public with too little understanding or social conscience.
One good thing about living here in Devon's interior is that there are very few seagulls. If there were, I'm pretty sure the locals would use them for.... err....sporting purposes!0 -
We get seagulls here. I have no idea where from, but they fly over laughing daily, and stomp around fields. I guess i am further from the see than you davesnave, but never had them like this in Somerset.0

Our last pasty was the one nearest to Devon and was definitely the worst - you may be onto something!
Oi! There's nothing wrong with proper Devon pasties, but like everything else, you need to be discriminating.
I wasn't sensible when I bought a 60p pasty, because I should have realised that there's no way to produce something even half-decent at that price.
Best pasty I ever had was in the Cotswolds, and to be honest, it wasn't a 'proper' pasty at all, as it had minced beef and peas in it!0 -
