although i do think that it has some sort of purpose as it does confirm whether your english skills are competent enough to prepare for and take the test.
i think OH has taken it but can't remember - she has ILR but doesn't have a british passport yet.
My score was worse than yours!
Many of the questions are just plain daft – a memory test, rather than a test of useful knowledge. For example, I know that there are around 650 MPs in the House of Commons. Testing whether people know the precise number is completely daft, particularly as that changes from time to time. So, if they had 3 answers that were at least 100 away from the correct number, that would make a sensible question to ask. But having, as they do, two answers that are close together and close to the correct answer does not make any sense to me.
Likewise, knowing the population of the UK to the nearest 10,000,000 makes reasonable sense, but requiring that knowledge to be split up between the countries making up the UK is just creating a test for the sake of it.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Re the voice/BGT - neither, both are a pox on culture!
Whats happened to NDG?
Wish I was well enough to take advantage of the weather...:(It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

The test is frozen in time as well :rotfl: it was created in 2007 and has been stuck there ever since
They talk about New Deal (now reincarnated as the Work Programme), and various other bits and pieces which feel a bit strange.
It's a bit of social engineering, a bit of English language and gives the government something to point to when asked about their immigration policies.0 -
Got 18 /24 so 75% - a pass!
This is going to get out of date quickly !
- number of kids under 19 and so on. Beats me why this stuff wasn't taught routinely at school. Thought most other countries already had this type of test.
As it's a bit old does it go on about PEPs and TESSAs? and the cost of a black and white TV license (must use cheaper ink);)There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Is that why she washed your passport? Enraged that you have one and popping the question will mean she gets hers quicker?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
