This reminds me of an old comedy sketch, from those gloriously non-PC days when we could laugh at anything.... white man on a beach and a crowd of Indians running onto the beach from the sea (presumably having just arrived/swum/boated to the UK), waving passports and saying "we have British passports". That must have been from the early 70s, maybe Benny Hill/similar.
Edit: I just googled it and found that it must have been from the 1970s when thousands of East African Indians arrived.... and they already had British passports. They had been expelled from Kenya, Uganda and Zanzibar http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Indian

Recover quickly. Still finding soft stuff to eat?
Gradually getting round that one.
Tried pasta today. Had to eat it v slowly. Chewing was a task.
Think I'll try something else tomorrow. Soup and readybreak lose their appeal v quickly! It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Poor you sweets. Can you manage jelly? Maybe not yourself, but jelly always feels like a healing food to me!
Hmm., at least with pasta you can have lots of different flavours, even if your sauces cannot be 'chunky' might you manage a risotto do you think? ring thje changes a little? Scrambled egg?
We can probably think of loads of things for variety if it would help you?0 -

I'd also go for packets of instant custard, instant semolina, some Angel Delight and trifles.
If you're nt eating a lot, you need calories - and there's little smooth/hot main meal food that won't lose it's buzz.... so have sweet stuff and enjoy it.
Soups will lose their shine if you can't enjoy a variety of breads with them - and bread's hard to swallow.... so just soup would make you feel cheated.
Sweets don't make you feel cheated about food.0 -

Only thing with that is it needs something else.... so maybe mashed baked beans and scrambled eggs.0 -

I quite like scarmbled egg alone. One of the things i find impossible to watch people eat is scrambled egg with ketchup. The idea revolts me. Seriously, makes me heave. To the point cannpot bear to see red and yellow together often, as i think of that copmbination andyuck.
Other thing might be flavoured mash...with some beloved gravy lj, but also, with some cheese, some very soft cooked can get away without chewing much veg.....onions, celery and carrot well soften i used to blitz and hide in food for kids, buit would be good for getting veg into you if you have cheesy, gravyish mash and tiramisu!
If you can eat cold food then a penut butter and banana milkshake made with vanilla icecream, cheap is fine, is greater than the sum of its parts....and the banana and nuts are healthy, right? Better than it sounds, i promise.0 -

Could also do mash with mashed up baked beans
Carrot and swede mash is good too. You can microwave a whole swede and mash it (no need to peel it, just !!!!! it and nuke it)..... overcomes the barriers many people have on peeling/sluicing/cooking swede.lostinrates wrote: »If you can eat cold food then a penut butter and banana milkshake made with vanilla icecream, cheap is fine, is greater than the sum of its parts....and the banana and nuts are healthy, right? I guess the issues are the differences between soft and liquid... whether LJ's looking for liquid items (to replace the soup), or soft items.
We might be straying too far towards soft. If soft is OK, then a plain bread/butter pudding - without sultanas ... and not eating the top layer, would be soft and yummy/easy.0 -
LJ, are you having trouble swallowing? If so, I suggest that you get immediate help from a speech and language therapist. (Who would guess that my wife has just qualified?)
The reason for taking action sooner rather than later is that there can be a danger of inhaling some of your food if you are not swallowing properly. This can then lead to serious chest complications, especially if you are not strong enough to cough properly.
A speech and language therapist can help you to make sure that the food of the right consistency to reduce the risk of inhalation, that you are in the best possible position, and so on.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

My Dad has a problem chewing and eating food too and there is a book you can get from the library with lots of recipes in. This is the book that I got for him, but there are probably others too. May be worth looking in to?
