I have an account with £1.04 in it. I opened it with £1, and then its interest rate dropped, or some other bank's rate went up, or something, and I never used it properly. It's earned 4p of interest over the last few years. I am clearly now rich as a result. ;)

It's worth having more than one account at a time but I'm less sure it's worth having tons.

The big high street banks ain't great but I found it's worthwhile to have at least two bank accounts and three credit cards.

Can't praise First Direct enough. It's the "Open University" of banks, as far asI can see, and you're all rightly bored with me singingi the OU's praises.

Also love building societies acting as banks, They're effectively co-ops, making money for you and not some shareholders off in the distance.

High street banks I dont touch, because

    a) I live in a city too big and sprawling to use the city centre (which is all banks and no building societies/former building societies as these are, necessarily, suburban).
    b) they have to pass on a profit from me to to somebody who might not be me, and, having an IQ greater than my shoe size, I'd rather stick pins in my eyes/eat worms/(insert unspeakably foul alternative here) than commit such folly.

Chuffed with James, after his debacle of the AS levels last year, in one of his retakes, he went from a U to a C!

But I think I am going to have to get an English tutor for middle son, the difficulty he has with fiction, feelings and reading between the lines have resulted in a modular result of an E. He is very bright but he just cannot do anything other than black and white, pure literal terms, so I need a tutor who specialises in teaching Aspergic children a work around for the fiction stuff.

It's beyond my capabilities because I just can't get my head around the problem and can't think of a workaround. Dyslexia was an easier thing to deal with than an aspergic child when it comes to English.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I have been having a clear out so probably only have about 10 current acconts, 8 savings accounts and half a dozen credit card accounts at the moment. I will need to get a santander 123 ac tho as I think that should make me 50-100 qid a year.

This years cash isa looks like consolidating old isas into natwest at 3.5% for over 30k for DW, not sre for me as I have most of my cash isa at 5% already so won't have 30k to move.
    I think....

It's a shame you need to do this, should be able to work on any child's strengths rather than waste time getting them up to a minimum standard in certain subjects - everyone has things they will never be any good at. If it was English language then I can see the point of it, but it sounds like English lit he's struggling with. Does that really matter in the grand scheme of things?

I think the educational system is so rubbish and formulaic for all children. I could never see the point of about half of my lessons and I gain led absolutely nothing useful for later life (apart from some grades which in no way reflected my ability in some of the subjects).

I was rubbish at English Lit. It didn't help because of the way we read it. Back then, no TV/DVD, we had a book between two people and we'd read Shakespeare by the first person reading the first 7 lines, next person reading the next 7, next, next, next... I had NO idea what was going on!

I was therefore booted out of the class :)

Mine has no software, it simply plugs into a USB port and instantly becomes an extra drive.

    This is a major need.

I need the software to do a complete backup of my desktop hard disk, which has frothing capacitors and could go at any moment.

I want to be able to copy the who,e thing over to the ext HDD then when I get a new computer, copy it onto the new computer and just carry on as before.

    Am I asking the impossible?

That's brilliant and a good confidence boost as now he knows he can do the subject.

We had mixed results, the resits from last summer went well but the new papers weren't amazing, so 2 of them will be done again this summer (which is when most schools would have sat them anyway).

So at least this summer we are down to 5 exams. One subject is virtually sorted with only an average grade needed to achieve an A overall, the others will require serious work, but it does mean that the Bristol offer is potentially possible so he will be holding on to that offer.

Any ideas for DD 7 who is really rather rude and naughty but then if punished does the 'you don't love me, no one in this family likes me I don't mean to be naughty and now I'm going to cry myself to sleep' routine? I don't think the remorse is manipulation, I think she is genuinely upset about her behaviour but at the time she doesn't seem to be able to stop herself.
    :(

We love you but not your behaviour is the message.

My 5 year old niece does something naughty then takes herself off to sit on the naughty step, where she has already positioned her sister ready to play.

We should all listen to this triumphant song at full blast to celebrate lemonjelly's return! :D

The good nice peeps were worried you'd discovered a thread for even Nicer People and were giving us the body-swerve.
Or had fallen into the clutches of a jealous lady who wanted your company in the real world.

 What on earth was that music?

I'd have thought this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6EiPuuoEdM might be a bit more suitable?

We've talked about teddy bears, water meters, meteorites, smutty emails/PMs, school catchments, supermarkets, vacuum cleaners, lampshades, nail varnish, painkillers, sandwiches and phone boxes. And some other stuff...

Oh, and we've all been asked to try to start or contribute to a few threads on the rest of the board, so it isn't just the trolls and sockies.

    Does that help?

Very much so. Tell me more about the smutty emails/pms!:D

Who's asked people to post "real" threads, rather than all the fishing going on?
