yes quite true the local convenience tescos are dearer than the Co-op in my village and there I pay for the convenience of walking in. Mr T is becoming a rip-off

What I dont get is logical as have worked in all different sized supermarkets myself.

    surly express

    less staff
    smaller store-so less to heat
rent must be cheaper than bigger stores
    as ins mainaintaiance

so express stores cheaper to run but higher prices goods probably brings in lots of profit for them!

I avoided all the supermarkets as much as possible. I am sick of their massive, unjustified price rises.

Not me! I gave up on Tesco last Autumn after a very unsatisfactory home delivery experience and a complete bodge-up on the part of customer service. Prior to having to stop driving through health last summer, I'd been doing a fairly big shop at Tesco at least once a fortnight but I'm very stubborn and it would take a lot to get me back to the big store, or to home shop with them again. their loss as I'm pretty restricted shopping wise and if they'd not messed up that home shopping I'd probably have spent £1000+ with them since and still be using them.

Having said that, DH still calls in at Tesco Express if he gets fed up with low supplies - although never double figures in a week.

I hope that this thread will make interesting reading for Tesco.
  • Some exec. Tesco dude sold his shares worth £200,00 BEFORE the news of the loss in profit was made public..

Tesco is alright compared to Morrisons and Sainsburrys when it comes to getting what you pay for (it isn't expensive, but the quality isn't crap either).

Is it cheaper rent though,i always thought sites for convenience stores came with high rent due to the location eg middle of town,

    No.

We have a Morrisons 5 mins walk away so shop there 9 times out of 10 so took advantage of their £25 voucher by meal planning with what was on offer in the 6 weeks to get the receipts.

I also got my meat and alcohol "free" from Sainsburys thanks to the Nector points I'd gained throughout the year, mainly from Homebase as they seem to send me alot of "treble/500/1000 extra points offers and we've been doing alot of work in the house and garden.

The only thing I bought at Mr T from Oct to end of 2011 was a bottle of water from the Mr T Express in Pallasades, Birmingham as I wasn't going to pay 3 times more for the same water which was only 30 yards from the train station.

Some of them maybe in city centres, busy high street but doubt the rural village locations, suberbs or garages are as high rent.
Having worked in somerfeild convieniance stores they make good profits but do charge more.

"Surly express" would have been a fitting name for the little Tesco where I used to live. Worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life!

No, I didn't. I had an Internet delivery from Waitrose, went to Sainsburys with my mother and OH went to Lidl and ASDA. We were really organised with a list for each supermarket and bought only that.

The Tesco Express is about 5 mins away but it's expensive and wall to wall junk food. I do go to the 24 hr Tesco 1 junction up the motorway occasionally but unimpressed. I don't buy ready meals, crisps, processed food. I don't feel it has much for me and the Finest isn't as good as Waitrose.
