We do our shopping at Tesco, but have a list now for what we need, may add another odds or sods but not major extras.

Anything frozen and Milk get from Iceland, - just round the corner, between £8 and £15 spend

Top up the milk - go to Mr A, - walkable distance.

    No because:
    Asda was cheaper.
Asda had £5 off £40 & TEsco no longer accept these.
Asda price checker is better/10% cheaper.

ie - TESCO LOWER YOUR PRICES!
  • I did a shop that I wish I had done in Waitrose. *lives and learns*.

  • Reason? Because it is a 20 mile round trip to my nearest Tesco. Within a 2 mile round trip we have Sainsbury's, Asda, Aldi and Morrisons. And for special offers M & S, Farmfoods, Iceland, Fulton Foods and a small Co-op. So would not even think about using the extra petrol to go to Tesco!

Was really pleased to hear the news reTesco. Maybe now they will stop treating people like idiots
with their supposed reductions, deals and halfprice offers.
No, not one penny spent in Tesco this Christmas.

  • Our local Tesco is an Extra and only 10 minutes walk, but I am not shopping as much there in general now. Combination of factors, son has left home (means I now shop at most once a fortnight instead of once a week in T's!!), Lidl and Aldi are 2 mins walk, and we have just been so busy just lately that I have not had time (sorry, refuse to shop in my evenings unless I absolutely HAVE to!!).
What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare
  • The only shopping i done at mr t's was on christmas Eve and then only bought whoopsie items. so basically they lost money on me:T

My main christmas food spending was done with

    my local butcher,

m&s ( as i had vouchers to use up)

    Asda

home bargins for treat sweets etc

Local co-op for tinned sweets ( they were 2 for £9) bought 14 tins:D , and no they were not for me they were for work customers...

I think people are more savvy now, before the recession and all this financial carp hit the fan... as long as people had credit cards etc, alot of people didnt really look at prices, but now with people losing jobs left right and centre, and everything going up, and with media pointing out the price increases, people notice more now, and are getting more tuned in to their finances..

Mr T was telling us we were getting good offers, but the great british shopper is now saying ( with their feet) no hang on.. you are not...

Lets hope the share prices and profits are in a bit of a downward spiral...

But... in reality its not really that bad as they are making a profit.... its just wasnt any growth year on year they are seeing... we just need to get their profits down lower

    No because I hate them.

I live about a 10 minute walk from a very large Tesco but very very rarely go there. I usually go to Sainsbury which is a 20 minute drive away. I like Sainsbury - their fruit and veg seems fresher and lasts longer. The store is better laid out - wider aisles so doesn't get so congested. Also I use the shop and scan which is so quick and saves all that queing at the till.

I nearly always put my shopping list into Mysupermarket before I go shopping and Sainsbury is the cheapest 9 times out of 10. Asda is usually second and Tesco third so they are certainly not the cheapest supermarket. Asda is about the same car journey but not keen on my local Asda so don't really go there - their fruit and veg are rubbish.

Where I live there are 3 large Tesco stores and 7 Express stores with more proposed. They seem to want to take over this country and that really annoys me.

In my local High Street there is a largish Co-op (which I use a fair bit), an off licence, a baker, newsagent, greengrocer and an independent convenience store. Now Tesco is going to open an Express store there and that means the death of all but the Co-op in all likelihood.

  • They opened a huge new Tesco five minutes walk from my house two weeks before Christmas, but I didn't do my Christmas shop there, apart from going over for some medicine (had a bug at Xmas) and a few last minute bits and pieces on Christmas Eve.

I got the bulk of my Xmas shop delivered from Sainsburys as it isn't really any more expensive, they do one hour delivery slots as opposed to Tesco's two hour slots, and the online product choice is much better. For the nice stuff - treats, meat etc, I went to M&S, the Tesco finest range is about the same price as M&S, but the quality isn't as good and they hardly stock any finest products in my new Tesco anyway.

I suppose it's a bit of an ethical thing as well, as we now have three huge Tesco shops in a three mile radius, do we really need that many? My neighbour, who owns the local sandwich bar which may go out of business as a result of the new Tesco, doesn't think so.
