  • agree with Catkin, Sainsburys usually cheaper when I check mysupermarket too

I have Sainsburys and mr T superstores near but only went to T once around Christmas for the BOG2F selection boxes. Reasons are:

    1) Sainsburys don't load up prices on a whole load of other items and expect you not to notice
    when they publicise price cuts

    2) Sainsburys staff always so lovely, my personal experience at Mr T was I was overcharged for item, went to CS for refund and had to listen to 15 minutes of her moaning about her job etc

    3) I frankly dont like the environment, even tho ours is a new store, dont like layout, Sainsburys layout far better

    4) Offers - lots of genuine offers at Sainsburys, I find what's on offer and plan meals around that, on mysupermarket its always cheaper.

I had M&S and Sainburys vouchers too, but also seems from what I read on here, that Mr T makes a lot of pricing errors? great for DTd of course! but wonder how much of profit fall could be down to the amount of DTD they have to give due to system errors? very rare for Sainsburys to make price error on system in my experience.

Mr T do the odd great bog2f to get you in, like cheese, selection boxes etc, but I literally go for those offers only, and rarely buy anything else, does anyone else do that?

Too far away vs. other options available

Our nearest one (which is the one I refer to above) is actually much smaller than the other options available

I've heard they don't accept manufacturer coupons (other supermarkets do)

Not particularly impressed with their value range (price increases have started happening with Asda smartprice now though, so less of a factor than a few months ago)

It's always really busy, much busier than the Asda (could be to do with how small it is though)

Have money off coupons for Asda and Sainsburys - don't have anything similar for Tesco (don't have a club card)

Product range was a bit "meh" the last time I went

My mother has done that regulary, she checks how much the price has been put up first though to make sure whether it is a good deal or not.

Blimey comes to something when marks and spencer is cheaper.

my mate has a boothes near her she raves about it.

im debating on sending hubby up tesco express later see if any bargains.

used waitrose and ocado last year was very impressed.
even spar says they pricematch against tesco.

wonder if the bods in charge reading this? they very tarnished so much negative publicity only reason they have so much market share is due to sheer number of stores!

  • Have only been in Tescos once since they stopped taking competitor spend coupons, but after finding several things out of stock and ridiculous :eek: 20%ish price rises on some of the products I buy on a weekly basis (tuna, fromage frais plus several more that i can't remember), I found myself walking round saying  s*d that, I'm not paying that much for 'xyz' and decided to abandon shop and go to Asda instead.
I now shop at Aldi for their great fruit and veg offers and top up with other things at Asda.
Perhaps Tescos could get the :D brains :D behind their original idea for DTD to come up with a new scheme to entice us back. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:They could start by accepting competitor spend coupons again :T
Perhaps someone should send this link to Philip Clarke :D I'm sure MSE'rs could come up with some 'cottage industry' ideas to help get his company back on their feet. :T:T:T
  • No my main shop was done at Lidl as they are lots cheaper than other supermarkets and it is within walking distance for me. e.g 2 points of semi skimmed milk 75p whereas in other shops it is 89p
Also Aldi as I had a voucher for £5 off a £30 spend, even though I had to pay bus fares it was still cheaper and I combined it with a visit to my friends house.
Also Iceland as again they are cheaper.

The only reason I went to Tesco's was on NYE specifically for whoopsies and came away with some real bargains for the freezer.

300g of smoked salmon reduced from £12 to £4 which will do three meals for DD and I and a Beef joint reduced to £1.99 which will do two meals for DD and I.

    1. I Moved this year and I have a Sainsbury and an Asda closer.
    2. The largest Tesco is in a Town Centre and offers free car parking. Therefore everyone parks there instead of the shopping centre car parks and Tesco shoppers can never get parked themselves. This was worse at Christmas with most shops in our centre opening a lot earlier than usual.
    3. I had money off vouchers and nectar points to use at Sainsbury.
    4. I intended to buy everything pre-prepared this year (new house is a own house with living room on middle floor. This coupled with 5 kids as a single Mum, I cannot be in two places at once so refused to be stuck in the kitchen). Sainsbury pre-prepared stuff is far superior to Tesco.

The main reason though was for parking. I went to Sainsbury at 6am to shop and it was almost empty with the staff pulling online orders and singing carols. Tesco (according to friend who went at 6am too) was full with no parking available and miserable staff blocking aisles to stack shelves. So I think I made the best decision! Sainsburys was relaxing to shop in and we went and had a coffee and sausage sandwich in Starbucks afterwards.
  • recently found lot of good reductions on washing stuff at Sainburys, 28 wash Bold Peony with Lenor was £4 reduced from £6 something in Dec (over £7 at Mr T) and had a £1.50 voucher printed previously at checkout, so £2.50! same with Ariel 24 wash gel week before, also had £1.50 till printed voucher and Surf Small n Mighty was £4 couple of weeks before.
54 wash Persil £5 at moment, and lot of toothpastes and Herbal E stuff half price or less.
  • thats another thing, I love Starbucks lattes and we have a Starbucks at our Sainsburys, also with wonderful staff
  • No, because bad customer service (they don't really give a damn about their customers )
Rip off prices (drop 2p of an item then put it up by 20p the 'price drop it by 2p again in effect a price rise)
and just generally fed-up with their attitude of domination over the markets and thinking that shoppers are daft.I have been shopping for 55 years and I have seen all the scams and tricks used by shops to get your cash .This morning I took an omelette pan to my local small family run hardware shop and the chap there spent 10 minutes fixing the handle back on with a new longer screw. He charged me 50p, don't think B&Q would bother or any of the other huge stores but if I want something again I am more likely to use that shop as he went out of his way to help me.That's what customer care is about. He is happy to sell me one screw or one light bulb which is of more use to me than a multi-pack.Long live the small firms Use them or lose them
