  • Not this year No.
I had saved Co-op stamps all year and even though they are slightly more expensive our local one is lovely, clean, quite big and always well stocked.
Unbelievably we have two large Tesco and Two Tesco Express in our town, and they always seem to be busy..plus we have all the other supermarkets as well.
People on the Welsh Borders must just eat a lot!all our supermarkets are always heaving.

Must confess that I did ALL of my Christmas shopping in T!

It wasn't a pleasant experience, but I was paid on 22nd of Dec and had to wait until then to buy anything. I only wanted to do one shop and with the new humongus T round the corner, I thought it was the best bet in terms of running out of stuff. I found the staff really helpful, they put me straight onto an empty till and packed most of my shopping for me

But - I rarely shop in there the rest of the year. S has better prices now and I swear by their cheapy tea bags. I plan to be a bit more savvy this year though so I will go to Tesco when they have the best deal for certain stuff

No, because I hate tescos! I hate the fact that they have over dominated small towns, putting smaller shops out of business. I also hate the type of person who uses our local tescos, you know the sort, turn up in their pj's and ugg boots, scream obscenties at their hyped up kids, and then cough, sneeze, and squeeze all the food products before discarding them.... Urgh, no! There is a brand spanking new aldi about 10 mins from where I work. I can be in and out in 15 minutes. Life is too short to spend in supermarkets!

Tesco certainly seems to have a head of steam behind its haters, doesn't it? I wonder if its market research team reads these forums?

I've largely stopped using Tesco, too. I think its price reduction campaign was a scam, I think its stores look tacky and low-rent but, worst of all, Tesco's stock control is terrible! I've complained about this several times and been brushed-off with the usual platitudes. Their loss - I now shop elsewhere.

That said, I can only think anyone who finds Sainsbury's is cheaper must have a different shopping list from me. Asda is cheaper, I'm sure, but I always find Sainsbury's more costly.

Tesco needs to get a grip on its image. Whether its management realises it yet or not, it seems it is in serious PR trouble.

I don't find Sainsburys cheaper - though nor do I find it outrageously expensive, either - but I think that the produce is of a much higher quality so it's better value (for me), if you know what I mean? I also prefer the layout and overall appearance of their stores.

I'm not fond of Tesco either and Asda - although cheaper - always seem to sell me OOD products (only noticed the yogurt when I opened it later to use!), overcharge me or just don't have the stuff I wanna buy in stock.

I do tend to cherrypick a lot but the fresh stuff is always Sainsburys, meat in local farm shop (or steak from M&S, which is amazing), offers from the other supermarkets.

I don't have a Waitrose near enough to do a regular shop.

Our Christmas shop came from Sainsburys and was supplemented with stuff from M&S.

Interesting point about Asda - I've noticed it too. My guess is the company runs a very tight 'just in time' system because the sell-by dates always seem very short. It's so noticeable that it puts me off shoppig there for fresh products..
  • Tesco don't get any money off me - I hate them.

My nearest supermarket is a Tesco but I've been boycotting them for years and drive slightly further to Asda which is an entirely more pleasant experience.

The main reason I don't shop at Tesco is because I don't like their ethics. Also their own brand products are rubbish compared to the ones in Asda or Sainsbury's. They are not that cheap either and why people flock there in droves has always been a mystery to me.

Also, several years ago (this was the last straw and my boycott began) they cancelled our entire Christmas drinks order saying 'there are no groceries, only alcohol'. This in itself was not true as we had non alcoholic drinks in the order but it angered me so much that they decided not to deliver our order because there wasn't any food. Obviously they didn't want our business so they haven't had any since.

I don't shop at my local store because not only do the staff revel in their rudeness, but they are actually stupid. I don't expect Oxbridge graduates behind tiills but these people have no capacity to engage their brains.

  • We have 2 reasonable sized Tescos near us but I can't say I've been in either of them very often. I find both seem dark, crammed and really untidy which just completely puts me off going in them. Sainsburys is so much closer to us anyway and I find them to be pretty much the same in terms of value.

I do about 30% my weekly shop at our local Tesco Extra and go twice per week usually. Why?

It's very close and convenient for me and I can fit in a shop while my DD is at swimming club, half a mile away.

Swimming club time is also Whoopsie time, so a great time to pick up the 90% off stuff.

I'll also pick up any good special offers or items that are cheaper at Tesco (not many!) when compared through Mysupermarketdotcom.

My opinion of Tesco is that it's run by a shower of greedy !!!!!!!s intent on using ever possible greedy trick to hoodwink the unsuspecting customer into paying more than they should for their shopping. Most of their offers are done using smoke and mirrors, they constantly stack the shelves in such a way as to confuse the customer or divert them away from any decent offer, they make their ticketing as difficult as possible to compare and really, they're the scum of the earth when it comes to marketing morals. Hence it's my mission in life to play them at their own game and only ever buy things there when I'm getting the best deal I can and reducing the profits they make from me as much as possible.

The rest of my shopping I buy at Lidl, Sainsburys and my local shops. ...still looking for the best price, of course, but not with the same attitude of playing them at their own game. If an item costs the same at Tesco and Sainsburys I will always choose to get it at Sainsburys. I don't approve of the deviousness of Tesco at all.
    Val.
