It does say in the bumf that they require the answer in the form of Situation, Task, Action & Result. This is the format required for all competency based interviews too and something to keep in mind for all that are fortunate to get interviews. :)

Could you be more specific where it says that? I want to double check, I don't remember anything saying that.
  • Writing a competency is always difficult, one of the golden rules as mentioned earlier is STAR - situation -task-action-result its almost like telling a story (beginning middle and end) what's tough is deciphering the meaning of the competency this is what I found most challenging and giving the correct example for each.

I was aware of the techinque star, but it was not possible to write a Story in that form that matches all the Specifics they wanted to see in the Attachement of the job application with 200 words. As you would need to mention different jobs and roles to highlight all the requirments, and 200 words is not enough for that.
  • Yup, something like that.

The funny thing is that I really feel the salary offered is way too low (for London anyway) and the way
they treat the applicats (all over not just in London) is a total shame....

For someone /anyone who gets one of those jobs, would they allow them to treat their clients the same way or would they be getting P45 ready for poor performance.. I wonder.

I am not really sure if I want this job - is the lack of news that is bothering me.

Hang in there the salary is not so bad about £1,513 after tax and N.I conts (in London) - plus dont forget the max is £28,000 with lots of possibility for promotion etc :)

    For example:

    Building Capability:

Builds capability to meet current and future business needs through continuous learning and by communicating in ways that support productive working relationships by:

    Developing Knowledge and Skills:
Develops knowledge and skills to meet current and future business needs.

    Working Collaboratively:
Works collaboratively in ways that value diversity and add to efficiency.

    Communicating with Impact:
Communicates in ways that promote understanding and maintain confidentiality.

How do I write in 200 words in the form of a STAR that could address most or all of those highlighted above, When I have to mention more than 1 Situation??

I agree it's a challenge! I really struggled, in the end my comps read more like a summery - we will see if that was the way to go although my staus s still reading "awaiting review"
  • I think I mentioned this earlier but it was difficult to distinguish between the "managing people and performance" capability and the "leadership" capability as your answer in the 1st one basically answers the 2nd one... If you've managed people and performance the surely that's an indication of leadership

They should start again but this time make sure the marking of competency statements is clearly explained beforehand.
This would ensure that all applicants know exactly what they want and also devise a system so that it won't all end up being a subjective exercise based on who's doing the marking.

Hehe, I could only think of one way.... pull something right out of my a*** that is a single situation, that matches all the requirements they look for :D

I am quite impressed you manage to do it with the limitation of 200 words... goodluck with the scores!
