The sad thing is that how a competency is marked is often not consistent.

When submitted the competencies for a contract extension exercise I got 9, 9, 9, 8.

When I was applying internally for two permanent roles I used the same competency set, yet on some they marked at 7, 8, 6, 6 and on another role it was 4, 3, 4, 7.

In this exercise I went the generic route.

Unless the competency framework changed in some way in between your applications, a difference like that could be challenged

I know many people who have asked their papers to be re-sifted because of a huge difference in marking

Hi, may I ask which area you received your competency scores back from, thank you.

It was Lancashire & Cumbria. One of the few internal exercises.

Terrified of finding out my comp scores. Perhaps we are waiting so long because London had the most applicants..

Looking at the feedback I received it is specific scenarios they require for each competency. The one answer I gave that was construed not to be only scored a 3.

In the end it all depends on the person sifting and how they interpret your answers.

    Good luck!

If they want specificity, why don't they request it? I don't recall any instructions of that type accompanying the application.

    Pfft.

How many of you gave an example of a job experience or referenced a situation for each competency?

For example: I did NOT start my entire competencies in the generic way of “This one time at band camp... I stuck a flute up…”

I instead mentioned all my job roles in an earlier competency then went into more detail about the specifics in each competency, I was assuming that the marker would know where the experiences come from rather than me having to point out each time, each competency, it felt like i would be dumbing it down too much.

However I think this might have been a mistake now...:rotfl:

The question was literally two words "Building Capability" so to me this sounds like you were meant to give an overview of throughout your entire career that you have built capability of yourself and others....

My thinking was basically giving an overview of your education maybe if your not that experienced, or if your experienced given concise detail of you in the workplace....

So how have i built capability 1.) Having a keen interest in xyz, I went onto study xyz at college then furthermore at university (to further enhance my skills which i hope could assist me in later life).
2.) During my course I learnt abc, def, ghi which I believe may assist me within the workplace.... this has been demonstrated whilst working (read point 3.).
3.) Aswell as my course I have a job which has taught me jkl, mno, pqr.
4.) Amongst all the top 3 you could talk about how you assisted in building the capabilities of others i.e university - you may have assisted weaker team members/not as confident/language barriers.

    - In the workplace you have builded the capabilities of others by assisting in training needs for example, assisted newer team members ...

Even if you have not done any of this you could say in terms of building capability I have been "researching" into doing a part time xyz course which will allow me to add value to an organisation

i think that was the way.... i think there was a bit of overlap with some of the competencies

Disgruntled job applicant turns to Godzilla style city trashing. There has to be a black comedy plot in there.

    Maybe in black and white...

    Maybe silent...

Well the thought certainly cheers me up!
