  • Dreading competencies scores, since 200 words in text and a vague description of 'write from your experiences' rather than the old 'one example per question' means I know I'm going to score badly with my vague attempts to address each point.

I actually found the competency descriptors rather vague. I came away with the impression that they are looking for a rather broad set of abilities, so I too am wondering whether my responses were too non-specific for their liking.

Surely we won't have to wait much longer. :(

Sounds like you did really well :) I'd be surprised if you didn't get an interview. I also doubt that if you get 1x3 you fail the whole competency excersise especially given the 4x7's you got. if that is the case they will struggle with having anyone to interview!

Unfortunately, that is the way it works. In order to progress to interview, you have to score at least 4 in each competency.

So, someone could get all 4's and secure an interview whereas someone else could get one 3 (but 8's and 9's in their other competencies) and be out!

How many of you gave an example of a job experience or referenced a situation for each competency?

For example: I did NOT start my entire competencies in the generic way of “This one time at band camp... I stuck a flute up…”

I instead mentioned all my job roles in an earlier competency then went into more detail about the specifics in each competency, I was assuming that the marker would know where the experiences come from rather than me having to point out each time, each competency, it felt like i would be dumbing it down too much.

However I think this might have been a mistake now...:rotfl:

I agree with you requesting a relook as it's obvious you understand what a competency is from your 4 7's. I can only guess that whoever marked the one that scored 3 must have thought you didn't give a correct example for the competency. Still your overall score is 31 out of 45 so you really should get an interview for that.

    Lets hope so!
it's been over a week since I got the scores and not heard anything back either way.

Wow... Really looking forward to my feedback now!!

The sad thing is that how a competency is marked is often not consistent.

When submitted the competencies for a contract extension exercise I got 9, 9, 9, 8.

When I was applying internally for two permanent roles I used the same competency set, yet on some they marked at 7, 8, 6, 6 and on another role it was 4, 3, 4, 7.

In this exercise I went the generic route.

I think they want Situation/Task Action Result. In that order. I really tried to do this but found it really difficult. Especially with the word limit and trying to cover all bases, generalisations start to creep in.... Competency writing is a competency in itself!! :D

Hi, may I ask which area you received your competency scores back from, thank you.

Looking at the feedback I received it is specific scenarios they require for each competency. The one answer I gave that was construed not to be only scored a 3.

In the end it all depends on the person sifting and how they interpret your answers.

    Good luck!
