Looking at the feedback I received it is specific scenarios they require for each competency. The one answer I gave that was construed not to be only scored a 3.

In the end it all depends on the person sifting and how they interpret your answers.

    Good luck!

Ah S**t, !!!!!!! I have definitely failed all together then, my competencies read well when you look at them as a whole as there is cross over information, but if marked absolutely individually they are going to score me badly for not referencing a situation for each one.

This is doing my head in why can’t they just be specific about what they want rather then what people read as a heads up on forums lol.

The question was literally two words "Building Capability" so to me this sounds like you were meant to give an overview of throughout your entire career that you have built capability of yourself and others....
There was long guidance notes for all the questions, on a separate document, few pages from what I remember.. yawnnnnn

Disgruntled job applicant turns to Godzilla style city trashing. There has to be a black comedy plot in there.

    Maybe in black and white...

    Maybe silent...

Well the thought certainly cheers me up!

    Yup, something like that.

The funny thing is that I really feel the salary offered is way too low (for London anyway) and the way
they treat the applicats (all over not just in London) is a total shame....

For someone /anyone who gets one of those jobs, would they allow them to treat their clients the same way or would they be getting P45 ready for poor performance.. I wonder.

I am not really sure if I want this job - is the lack of news that is bothering me.
  • Considering all the recent posts, I probably haven't been specific enough with my answers. Not holding out a lot of hope now, but am hoping to hear at least soon so the wait's over.
  • The following doesn't seem to suggest specific situations required.....quite the opposite I would say. I too took it as a general overview so to speak. Ah well.....

"Enter your statement describing your skills and experience against the stated competence. (not to exceed 200 words)"

Who dreamed up the use of competency statements as a recruitment tool ?
Is it peculiar to DWP or used in private industries also ?
Why aren't they interested in the usual methods of asking for a cv and previous work experience etc ?

I agree that it would be a courtesy to keep applicants more up to date with what's going on, but because the market is so tough right now, employers (even the DWP) can treat applicants however they like, I suppose.

As gettingready has mentioned there was a attachment for the specifics they want to see, I tried to fulfill the Lvl 1 requiremnts they mentioned.

However I did not write things like " At my work place at XYZ, i was a tidy person who used recycled paper and reused plastic cups"

I instead wrote "I make use of recycling resources by using old prints out to write out notes and reuse my plastic cups for waterefills, etc." These apply to jobs I had previously mentioned in an earlier compentency.

In that kind of manner, I am just giving a small example.

I feel like I am going to fail now though.

Bcuz i didnt do "STAR, Situation Task Action Result" they should have said so if they wanted that.... :@

If they want specificity, why don't they request it? I don't recall any instructions of that type accompanying the application.

    Pfft.

It does say in the bumf that they require the answer in the form of Situation, Task, Action & Result. This is the format required for all competency based interviews too and something to keep in mind for all that are fortunate to get interviews. :)

Where can I find that? All I got was the Competency Framework: I saw nothing relating to STAR.
