DWP Recruiting Again - 2012

Sammyjammy, you don't seem convinced? I'm really quite curious what the official rules are on that.
It would seem fairer that everyone starts equally.
But I know in Teaching (as I started a PGCE in 2009 and didn't like it) you can start a year or two up the pay-ladder depending what your previous work experience is and if the school really wants you, but its completely discretionary and down to school budgets. In this climate they can easily refuse as its just a relief to get a secure job whatever your background.
Negotiate salary in the CS? Not a chance, unless you're talking Senior Civil Service.
By the way, I can't believe this is still going on, I transferred depts not long ago and the whole recruitment process took a month start to finish!0 -
Redsky, hope you get an offer soon.
Would anyone who has started like to share about how they are getting on? Also, can any current or past employees shed light on----call centre manager Vs Floor manager Vs Advisor. How do these compare and which one is better?
It depends what type of person you are and what you prefer.
I was a new claims adviser for years and I found the customer contact not too bad but the repetetiveness of seeing people at 40 minute intervals day in day out and telling them the same thing was quite grinding after a while. The lone parent/new deal adviser roles had a bit more flexibility - various appointment lengths/in work benefit calculations etc. The adviser role is very much a desk job - lots of admin and job submission targets.
I was floor manager for 3 years and I had to greet each and every customer who visited the JC. I had to give advice, direct them to relevant literature/other organisations if necessary. This role was instead of having a reception so another duty was to tick off appointments as they arrived and let advisers know that their customer was in [and negotiate if they were late]. Often I ended up doing the role of the security guards and had to tell abusive/disruptive customers to leave. I wore a phone, radio and personal panic alarm and [just before I left in 2007] I was calling the local police to help break up fights/remove customers on a daily basis. I was on my feet ALL DAY but after a couple of months you get used to it.
The best thing would be to chop and change roles regularly if possible so your knowledge increases and you don't get stuck in a role you don't enjoy.0 -
I got call yesterday which is 4 weeks after i accepted my provisional offer. Have been given my 1st choice of location for west London! So pleased. Choice of start dates too - either 23/07 or 10/09 as they are starting people in waves (training takes 5 weeks?) Have also received email confirming everything. Formal offer letter to be posted. Xxx0

Well done!
But now I'm absolutely confused, as my provisional offer came about 3 weeks before yours for the same region, but I have received no offer yet. Obviously there could have been more of a hold up with my checks and such, but it is still a bit alarming. Would you mind giving me an idea if how long after your offer dud your crb come back, and then how long after that your call came?
Well done again, hope you enjoy the role, but now I'm feeling :(_pale_0 -
Hi 7th level, my crb came back on Tuesday and I got call on the Friday. I hope that helps. X0

My partner got an offer for this job yesterday - Redsky, you and my partner had the same scores for Brum, have you received an offer yet?
My partner now has a big big dilemma though. In her current job, she has been made team leader which is more money, however the DWP job is still slightly more money than her current job.
What she really needs to know is what location she will be put in, but on the email is states that locations wont be discussed until pre employment checks have been done, which I assume is references from current job??
If this is the case, I dont think she will be able to go through with it as she really needs to know the location, and cant alienate her current management with them asking for references so soon after she has been given a promotion.
Anyone know if they will give her a location BEFORE they contact current employer?
Cheers

Hi Matt. Really pleased your partner finally got an offer! Yay!
Recruitment line told me that they don't actually contact your current employer, just confirm with HMRC that you are employed by them.
I was told last week that I'm 6th on the list and all my checks are completed - I'm ready to go, just awaiting a 'space'. So no offer for me yet...
Although me and your partner got the same score I was told that approx 10 people have that same score so obviously they have to pick someone 'first'.
Hope that helps, let me know what she decides!0 -
Anyone know how safe these jobs are? Partner has been offered a PA role and is in a real dilemma!
Cheers

I would imagine that they are fixed term contracts, there are VERY few permanent jobs now in the Civil Service.
Unlike when I joined up 20 + years ago (where has time gone !).0
