DWP Recruiting Again - 2012

I scored 33 at interview and was told that I was 74th on reserve list. Since seeing offers going out lately to relatively low scores I emailed them again to check my situation. I was told I had been placed 74th on the merit list & 26th on the waiting list. I presume this must mean that 48 positions were offered & I must be 26th on the list. Unless over half of those given offers fail their checks or references or turn their offers down I feel I must accept defeat! I believe my area must have scored relatively high as candidates who scored less than 30 were sent rejection emails.
For my region [B&S] I was told that anyone scoring a total of 20 or above [but not less than 4 in any competency] was put on the reserve list. While some people in this district got really good scores [and got immediate offers], most scores seemed lower overall than many of the scores posted on here by people from other districts. I think B&S were particularly low scorers/hard markers.
Don't give up yet, fingers crossed you still have a chance!0 -

Just wondered if when I start, if I will be on the minimum, or if I'll get slightly more due to my age (42)?
Unless you are an existing civil servant and on the max salary for your current grade then you will start at the bottom of the payscale regardless of your age.
Hope this helps.0 -

That job will be a DWP job before you know it, CSA becomes part of DWP again in August/September. I understand that for external recruitment it is possible to negotiate your starting salary within the bandwidth but you certainly won't start higher due to your age - that's called discrimination!"You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0 -
Thanks for the info guys, thought they might have took pity on an old fart!0

Everyone is starting on the minimum grade. There is no negotiation available.0 -

hmm ok, whatever you say."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0 -
Whoever compared this process to a saw film earlier in the thread was 100% percent correct. Some seven weeks after my provisional offer, and and almost two weeks since my crb came back and they still haven't contacted, nor will they answer my bloody emails. Argh! :mad:0

Seems quite normal for them. Will go nicely in line with their dead head political spill they give to all on a daily basis. One department i could not work for.
At least you should get some sort of job security.0 -

Sammyjammy, you don't seem convinced? I'm really quite curious what the official rules are on that.
It would seem fairer that everyone starts equally.
But I know in Teaching (as I started a PGCE in 2009 and didn't like it) you can start a year or two up the pay-ladder depending what your previous work experience is and if the school really wants you, but its completely discretionary and down to school budgets. In this climate they can easily refuse as its just a relief to get a secure job whatever your background.0 -
Redsky, hope you get an offer soon.
Would anyone who has started like to share about how they are getting on? Also, can any current or past employees shed light on----call centre manager Vs Floor manager Vs Advisor. How do these compare and which one is better?0
