I have just had an email back from DWP they are still waiting from my HR department to get back to them.
Will chase up again next week after the bank holiday!
I can't believe that my CS department have dragged their feet for 4 weeks!! Unreal0 -

Just wondering are they still CRB checking existing civil servants?
I think they will as I've worked for them since 1984 and never had a CRB.
They go out of their way to do things fairly.0 -
Hi JessStar, I wonder why there is no consistency in their processes. I am also current CS yet I was contacted long back and I doubt they checked this "fair and open" thing for me. Can't believe your current department is taking so long to respond. Now the long weekend......try & enjoy it !!!
Hope you hear something next week.
The fair and open thing is to make sure that your mate didn't advertise a position to only you back in the day, obviously if you did join the CS this way it would be totally unfair for you gain promotion.
I was originally recruited through unopen and unfair means as I was already working at the place and was offered a FTA contract when someone left, when it ended and the job came up for grabs officially I had to apply like everyone else; through fair and open competition even though I had done the job for a year already. It's only fair really. Not sure why it would take so long to find out if you were or not though0 -

That's one I said I didn't want either - Right now I think I'd take any formal offer. I'm really concerned about the HR business that's going on. If I end up not getting a post because one HR dept can't speak to another HR dept I think I'll have a breakdown!!:mad:0 -
I got my Disclosure back from the DWP yesterday, does anyone know if that's indicative of what stage in the process I'm at at all? Is there even a chance of a call next week?0

I got my disclosure back on May 26th and was called on May 30th with a firm offer, so hopefully you should hear back soon.0 -
Jeez Abergavenny!!!! I was panicking that they'd offer me that office, there was no way I'd be able to take it, I'd be better off staying in the job I already had. I still have no idea how they allocated offices as the location form seems to have had no effect.
Another poster said that they'd been told it was allocated on postcode. Well I know 4 of us who have been allocated Newport and we all live in Cardiff, surely there were closer offices that hadn't already been filled by people with higher scores? Do you live in Cardiff? If so it's crazy that they've offered you Abergavenny, I can't imagine that there isn't a closer office, it really does seem like picking names out of a hat!
Maybe you could accept it but ask them whether they'd consider you if a space in a closer office comes up before you start? I know of one guy (and so I presume there are others in the same situation) who has been given an offer in London, Manchester and one of the Cardiff offices. Now say everyone on the merit list has had their offices allocated and then he turns down the Cardiff offer, does that mean someone on the reserve list will then be given the Cardiff office when people who were higher up would have wanted that one, and would have been offered it if he hadn't been (does that make sense? Sorry, slightly hungover from my leaving do last night so my brain isn't working properly!!)£2012 in 2012 - £13810 -
Hello guys,
I was wondering if anyone knew the notice period if I wanted to hand in my resignation after starting. Having been in the lurch for such a prolonged time I applied for a few other jobs; with the prospect of one particular job looking very likely. I'm expecting to get notified in the same week as when I start at the JCP.
I've heard it's four weeks, can anybody confirm if this is the case?0 -

Hi Souk, it is a little complicated, however, the general rule is:
- What is writen in your contract,
or
- If no period is stated in your contract 4 weeks,
or
- If you have not signed a contract or are yet to sign a contract it is one week.
Courtesy states in writing, but there is no specific rule that it has to be in writing, but generally, once notice is handed in, it is binding.
Or simply seek advice from your line manager and let then ascertain the period required, especially in light of the circumstances, they may just cut you loose.
Look on the government directory website. If you google 'notice periods' the website should come up, it is pretty good for that type of advice. I used it recently my self and had no problems with my employer.
Hope this helps.0
