DWP Recruiting Again - 2012

Hi all
Unfortunately the only candidates who have a chance at securing a post will be the reservers placed in 1st - 10th place on the merit lists. Especially given the fact that nationally external vacancies have been cut and filled with surplus staff.
Why the DWP insist on having so many candidates in reserve is ludicrous as in reality 80+ candidates are not going to fail crb checks, receive bad refs, decide they don't want the job after all etc.. We are now officially in another recession and I wouldnt be surprised to hear that after all sucessful candidates have been placed DWP freeze any further external recruitment.
I hope I'm wrong - but I don't think I am!
I still say we did extremly well to even make the waiting list as competition was fierce.
So well done to those who secured an offer:beer:
I plan to take advantage of this process and hopefully will secure a fantastic job earning lots of money and live happily ever after! :j

I wish I had known about this forum months ago. I have gone through the recruitment process like so many others here.
I had writers block with the competencies, spent days on the phone being cut off when the online test had IT problems then waited months for the interview.
I got a provisional offer last week, phew!
I want to ask people who have worked or do work in JCP whats it like?
Are staff valued and supported?
Thanks
First of all, well done!
I work in JCP and have done for 5 years now. I'm not going to say that it's the greatest most satisfying job in the world because that would be a lie. It's a good job which is rare in this climate. At times it will not feel like you are valued and supported and at other times it will. What will decide whether you enjoy the job will be the people you end up working with. A lot of the current work force is aging and set in it's ways but the feeling is that this is about to change and the new intake of staff at both EO and AO will be used to shake things up. What I'm trying to say is that it's impossible to tell really is you'll get what you're looking for here as it will be subject to change in so many ways in the next year or so.futurefree wrote: »Hello all,
Does anyone know if the work is all in Youth Contract? What does Youth Contract work involve?
Thanks
The Youth Contract is a new approach to things and unfortunately I don't really know much about it yet. The EO posts have been advertised as just that...EO posts. The Youth Contract has already started at JobCentres around the country using staff that already placed at JobCentres so my thinking is that our posts will be to fill the spaces left by those who have gone to Youth Contract rather than for us to go there like many believe.futurefree wrote: »Is the job secure?
I know they are permanent but i remember my local JCP being fully staffed one day then the next time I went in lots of staff had suddenly gone.
Would be great to hear from people with real experience working in JCP and who know the job/organisation.
Thanks
Very! Probably the safest job in the country if you have a permanent contract. The staff that went were Fixed Term Appointed meaning that they only had a contract for 18months or so. JCP seem reluctant to get rid of permanent staff even if they are horrible at their job (and believe me, some people are!) There will always be unemployment, so there will always be positions and if you're fortunate to get in on a permanent contract you're more or less here till you want to leave or until you really screw up.0 -

I am trying to stay positive, and fingers crossed there is still a chance for those of us on the list to be offered a post within 6mths, but it's very hard to imagine it ever happening.
Ditto!Did you score 35? (I seem to remember you scored higher than me - 33).
I've not asked where I am on the reserve list, but I'm not holding out any hope anymore!
Thanks,
J
I got 34 points, so you may not be that far behind me, in fact there is always a chance that you are 85th!0 -

Great to read such positive comments! Really looking forward to starting...here's hoping I get offered one of my 'local' offices0 -
Well there doesn't seem many of us left on this forum.
I would like to wish all the very best to those who received offers and fingers crossed for those [including myself] still on the reserve list.
I will check every few weeks or so to see if anybody has had more good news!
Cheers for the support everyone! :beer:0 -
Congrats to all those who received offers. Well done after a very long process!!
I was placed on the waiting lists for (scored 35).
Emailed ESSR last monday requesting my position on the lists, but no response as of yet.

I guess there is little activity on here because..............there is little activity! Guess we are all waiting for any feedback at all that things are pregressing. Anyone heard that any of their references have been approached for example? The silence is deafening!0 -

I am still following this forum, I'll keep everyone posted with regards to any location info, role info or any other general info about the posts as and when I hear anything. Good luck to all those waiting.
Can I just check whether existing Civil servants have all complete the "Next Step" section. I know one of you said you did it anyway but are there are any CS (like me) who have followed the email and not completed any reference details. I have not had any acknowledgement of my email accepting their offer. I tried to call them at 5:00 and a message said, "they are temporarily unavailable to take calls" even though they are meant to be open until 5:30 Mon-Thurs & 5:00 on Fridays. I am beginning to think whether I should have (or still should do) completed the "next steps". I am hoping to get news about which office in B&S I'll get. Also, I want part time hours & wonder when they would clarify this as so far there has been hardly any opportunity to mention this.
Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this forum in a positve way. :T
No contribution is trivial as long as it was intended to provide support and/or information and not to demotivate or belittle anyone.0 -

I am an existing civil servan & completed the next steps prior to receiving the email which said i didn't need to!!
The only comms i have had is Devon & Cornwall recruitment co-ordinator in Penzance sent me an e-mail asking me to fill in the working locations form again as she hasnt received it of ESSR.
Really hoping i hear where i am going to be placed soon as i can only realistically work at 2 of the locations!
The waiting is killing me, so stressed out, i just want to know!!:eek:0 -
I think we're in for a long ish wait. A friend of mine had a CRB check done couple of months ago and that took 3 weeks!
No one really seems to know if the references are done by contacting the person(s) in question or if they do it via HRMC.
I am sure this thread will pick up again mid May0
