    Smiley face Mark...tongue in cheek...humour...

No, we don't use those on this forum. Don't you remember the outrage at me making a joke of someone mistaking my name for yours?
  • Hi everyone, does anyone know how many positions were made available in Southern Wessex at all.

Also, does anyone know the numbers for East Angia.

Daniel, that is not bad news at all. 2nd on the list, you have to be in with a reasonable shot. I was told at interview, that on avaerage, 10% of candidates drop out, either through rejection or failed pre-employment checks. Obviously it is not a hard and fast rule, but it is a good shot.

Yes jokes, love them, you are a shining example of one.

Go away fool, grown ups are talking.

Remember this Mark, lad, that one day, you will be sitting around bragging about you behaviour on this forum, and someone will say 'that was YOU'. I do not think you wil fair well, with any luck.

Something tells me you are a friendless little git, who sits in his room all day with one hand on the keyboard and the other on the joystick, excited by your own 'wit'.

Well, you certainly are a 'wit'.

I think if you were going into a situation where you were leading a team of ten or twelve then you might find that it would be difficult to motivate them and get them on your side. However, these roles are not processing; they're face to face (f2f). In f2f you tend to manage your own workload as opposed to staff. You will have a diary and a quota of customers to deal with. You will have people referred to you by AOs but you won't normally be expected to manage them. There is normally a more senior C Band who would have responsibility for managing the AOs in the office, or on their floor plate, looking after their HR and performance targets etc.

As for training, I was told that the training will take at least five weeks, primarily classroom, before you’re allowed to start communicating solo with customers and that you will be well supervised doing that at first. That said, I am only telling you what I was told by an HEO within DWP, who is not involved in the training process. I think he was just referring to training that had been given previously. Your work is more likely to be Youth Contract and dealing with people under the age of 25, and moreover 18; new signers etc.

Nothing to get hung up about though, as you’ll not be alone in your training and you’ll all be in the same boat. The post is subject to a 6 month probation period and normally a probation period would mean having three meetings with your lone manager during that time, maybe at 2 month, 4 month and at the end of the period. You would be assessed and guidance will be given. If you weren’t up to the job you would not be held for six months unless they thought they could improve you sufficiently. That said, it is rare for people to be dumped as the recruitment process is quite thorough. Probation does not give you the protection of permanent employment. They can dismiss you summarily and without having to justify their reasons, although you would be well aware that this was to be your predicament before it happened. It tends to be the arrogant ones who don’t want to listen and wish to unsettle others that get shown the door. I don’t remember seeing (m)any of them on here J…do you?

Many thanks, Bill - very useful feedback.

If you're numbr 2 on the list in an area where you have lots of people holding multiple posts, you must be well in with a shout of an early call.

    Good luck to you.

That's brilliant news! Don't be frustrated - just means a little longer wait I suppose.

    Hi DragonChild

Do you mean originally? If so....

If you have applied for these areas, then log into the CS site and click on Vacancy Details from the list on the left.

That brings up the original ad with the number of vacancies at the top.

If you mean new final figures since the ad - sorry dunno!

    Re - training

I would be pleased if it was 5 weeks AND done properly!

In 2009, I had a 2 week off site induction which was informative, well planned and useful but obviously generic and not relevant to your particular job role - that was to come on site.

I spent the next week and a half in my JCP at a back desk 'studying' my training books and any other literature I could find, because my IT accounts had not been set up (yes I know - you would think this would have all been in place - but this is CS!).

Then I spent a further week doing e-learning (aaargh!!) because staff were too busy to give me on the job training.

I hope they get it right this time!

Yeah I think the numbers on top of the ad were indicative and purely administrational as I know Hampshire originally has 150 and not so now. I thought SW had about 100 to 120, orginally, but now.......?
