I'm relocating too, so worried about timings re. Notice period and start date... Got to find somewhere to live etc!
But i Just can't see how with 20 working days for checks etc, and a 4 week notice - start dates are May/early June....
I don't doubt you were told what you say... It just doesn't seem reasonable. Not that I want it to take longer mind you!
See, I was told 20 w/d for the checks (so 20th May approx) then 4 weeks notice... Mid June.
The working day timescale applies from the date of offer, so whenever you received your offer, you're basically looking at about 8 weeks after that date.
That said, if you're existing CS they can pull you out sooner, so be aware0 -

essr.northeast@dwp.gsi.gov.uk is the address I emailed - I basically pressed the 'reply' button once I'd received my reserve list notification email. Good luck!0 -
My OH got a call today from B&S just confirming he wanted full time work and what his notice period was.
He did ask about his checks and the agent said they hadn't had anything back yet but expected everything to be done in 20 days.0 -
I see we've had almost 500,000 views on this thread. Been quite popular, but probably for the wrong reasons; the length of time this process has taken. By time you're all in post it'll be nearer the million, lol!0

Hi el_stepho, yes I agree with you. The thing is it will encompass people who do not have to move to those who do. I do not think there is any reason to panic though as I am sure a start date will be negotiable. I have to give four weeks notice as well, so I will need more than one day to even two weeks to find a place, move, and settle in within reason.
I am not sure of the remifications for leaving before the notice period ends. Does anyone know? I mean, there has to be a policy to allow for these things. or at least some form of discretion.
But then again......0 -

The only information we are able to provide for you at present is that you are currently placed 65th on the waiting list.

Today I received this email about BC, SS and B&S:
All we can tell you is that you are 99 on the waitlist for Black Country, 87 on the waitlist for Staffs & Shrops and 23 on the waitlist for Birmingham/Solihull
Don't fancy my chances for BC - I've 'gone down' 34 places!!!
Just praying that the B&S number is accurate cos pretty pleased with that!
WAIT! Wait wait wait. So you're saying that the information about your place on the waiting list was absolutely useless?
In other news, the sun came up this morning.0 -
Jess,
Well done on your offer. I’m absolutely delighted for you.
Judging by the information posted by Dragon Child, I'd suggest that only a few applicants will be lucky enough to be picked up from reserve lists and they will mainly be in the areas where so many people have multiple applications.
Some locations lie very close to lots of the regions such as in the midlands so there are a lot of spare offers there with some people having been made three + offers. Other areas such as Devon and Cornwall, who only have very limited opportunities from multiple applicants will find their reserve list barely dented. That same scenario of course also applies to my area in the North East region which really only attaches to its Durham and Tees Valley neighbour, where job offers are just as scarce.
I contacted ESSR on Monday asking for my reserve list position but am yet to hear from them. In reality I’m not bothered if I don’t get a reply as I don’t have the slightest expectation that there will be much movement at all up here and am resigned to that fact.
I will now look for some other opportunities within my own and other departments, or may even contemplate part retirement, while I still have a Civil Service pension worth taking J.
When I first received my reserve list email I was dissappointed but thought you never know, people will drop out, its only natural. In the past I have seen colleagues in my department secure their promotions from being on reserve lists.
However, this recruitment exercise has been a totally different animal alltogether!!!
I have never heared of such huge reserve lists!!!!!
Why would they possibily need 100 reserves for a region that has certainly less than 50 positions in the first place??? I am baffled:(0 -

You n me too, Bosscat. My department had a large recruitment exercise in 2010 recruiting around 100 C Band equivalent grades and they had a 100 strong reserve list. I believe around 4 or 5 were taken from it and that was over a 12 month waiting list period.
However, it doesn't cost anything to keep a long reserve. It just allows for hope in a commonly hopless situation.
That said, I really do believe there will be a lot of people, especially in the those areas such as the midlands, who will be successful yet. For every fifty provisional jobs there's the potential for as many as 25 posts unfilled from multiple applicants.
And good luck to them.0
