...and Sherrilou
These posts were advertised externally so any internal staff wishing to apply need to apply as external candidates as Sherrilou suggests. There is no easier route for current Civil Servants, be they DWP or Other Government Departments, (OGDs).
That said, it is my understanding that the jobs were announced because of pressure from on high. I am lead to believe that there was an evaluation in process to see what jobs could be filled by pre-surplus and surplus staff before the actual available jobs were to be advertised. The pressure however, lead to the recruitment programme going live and all vacancies advertised. I believe though that the surplus and those identified as pre-surplus (people whose jobs are earmarked for extinction) are being accommodated first.
I am told in some areas half of all vacancies have been taken up by this process which I believe is complete. Other areas have hardly been affected at all.
I think if the government had decided to hold back until the initial matching process had been completed, there would have been far less confusion and mixed messages coming out.
I think this makes a lot of sense and explains a lot of the different stories that have been posted here and have been part of the Chinese Whispers within the Civil Service.0 -

This link explains the distribution of vacancies. The 1200 external positions includes ao and eo both.0 -
well both a colleague and myself had interviews at newcastle and were both told that we would know the outcome of the interview (ie whether we had been successful or not) by the 21st March.... needless to say its the 21st today ... and there has been nothing, nada, zip, diddley squat.... so who knows when we will hear, at this rate it looks like never xHad my interview, newcastle 29th February. Got feedback, but its a long wait for the results. .... can't believe it can take this long.

Yes almost like that, pls see the link for more detail.http://www.pcs.org.uk/en/department_for_work_and_pensions_group/dwp-news.cfm/id/05FDBA06-1CA0-4A16-9BD22E32B9FF74B70 -

Ok after feeling ok about my score (67898)I am now becoming increasingly worried. All this talk of internal Vs external and rumours of how many positions are available has made me convinced that there could be just almost no chance for decent, ie not 40 and above candidates.
Can anyone put to rest these rumours of internal applicants being favoured?0
