I've been looking at the competencies for the past 2 days. I appear to have writers block! No idea where to start even though I know I have done many many things that cover each of the competencies having worked for DWP before on a FTA appointment, worked as an employment coach and advisor. I just can't get started! Has anyone else had this problem? How did you start?

It can be difficult to get started, what I did was work out which situation I felt was the best to illustrate each competency then wrote out the story of that situation, making sure that it was all about what I did. The guidance notes for writing competencies on the website are helpful, although the 200 word limit makes it difficult to be sure what to leave in. If you do it in a word document you can play around with it until it's right then copy and paste it into the boxes in the application. Good luck!
  • Received my third 'working locations form' for the SAME DISTRICT today! OMG - chaos or what? :rotfl:

If you apply to two different Job Applications for example if you wanted to apply to Birmingham and Solihull and also wanted to work in an area covered by the Warwickshire application dont wait till you know the result of the first before applying to the second because you may not get your results until after the 22nd which would make it too late to apply for another area. If you fail the first you can still sit the test for the second. If the job app is stating you can still sit the test then I would do it again just to make sure thats what I am going to do and try to better my score.

I bettered my score for the second district I applied for. My results were instant so I knew I was on the right track already and it boosted my confidence. :)

ME TOO! Very odd. Plus, I still haven't completed the test for that region. Well done on bettering your score too! ;)

    Hello

Can someone please give me a bit of clarity please?!? I took the test 3 times for 3 different regions and scored 89% 90% 94%. Whilst my analysis results seemed ok, my action planning hit just 248/336. Do you think I am out of the running?

I was told that, if you pass, you cannot sit another test, so as I was able to sit 3 (the 94% wasnt the last one either) does this mean I have failed and won't be progressing?

Thank you so much for any help you can give.

If you think that's bad; I'm a civil servant for a large government organisation (one of the largest), the working locations email was picked up as a risk by our GOVERNMENT email system because it contains active code - and was instantly deleted. :rotfl:

I rang the helpline who said they couldn't help (thanks for that) other than to say "don't worry just tell them in person if you get an interview", I emailed the address that sent the form four times; no response - I'll let them off since they're obviously busy. So in the end I had to just write a location down in a word file and email it back with an explanation.

My main concern would be that there's lots of applicants and an easy way to shed some of them is to disregard the ones that didn't comply with their instructions.

Sorry just had another thought about these percentiles. If you were to do the test on the first day and get a high percentile because you are compared against others who have done the test, would your percentile go down if you had the same score say today because you were being compared against more people? or am I being a bit thick? BTW hated the action planning stuff.:(

I've been chatting to others and pretty sure its not the case as have compared raw scores and percentiles across districts.

So my theory is that the percentile is calculated against everyone that has previously taken that particular test and who's scores are stored.

As for weighting this is how I think it works.

    Analysis and Interpretation (66%)

    2.79 * RAW SCORE

    Action Planning (33%)

    0.09 x RAW SCORE

    = Total Score

Then the percentile score grades your Total Score against all previous taken tests, e.g 90% means you scored higher than 90% of other peoples tests.

As a result if you score middle of the range you'll probably find scores of 40-60% comparatively, but score a bit higher in Analysis and Interpretation (which is easier as their are simple right and wrong answers) and it would make a significant difference.

My musing and not to be taken for gospel ;)
