Thank you. My concern is that the second area which i might apply to is a longer commute, so the first area would be my preference. I am torn between applying for both (on the basis that I might increase my chances of success) or sticking with one application to avoid lowering my chances of receiving an offer in my local area. If the two applications were looked at jointly, one might find themselves being offered a post in any location in all the areas applied to, which would decrease the chance of receiving an offer for a role in the preferred area.
If the applications were treated seperately, this wouldn't be a problem.
Maybe I'm overthinking this
Each application is treated separately, having done the same in a previous exercise and used same test results, applications and identical examples of competencies at 5 interviews for different districts (in same week) I found that at some interviews I was successful, others not.
Its all against candidates in the same district and they create 2 lists for each district.
Merit List (e.g top 100 candidates assuming there are 100 jobs)
Waiting List (top 100 onwards)
Jobs were offered in priority from merit list (which usually is the amount of vacancies they had), the waiting list candidates were held for 6 months and if someone refused a job offer, failed crb, failed referencing, started work in another district or for whatever reason didn't start then the position was offered to the highest ranked person on the waiting list.
If you get places on several merit lists then you have no idea which district will offer you a position and where, it will depend on your respective rankings on who contacts you first with the job offer and location.
Anyhow that was the previous exercises but I assume its much the same.0 -
Thank you, that's very useful.0

Hello everyone,
I was wondering if you could help. I applied for two districts and managed to complete my online application for one. However, when I went to do the second test, the system crashed and it wouldn't let me back in. Despite trying to get through to the DWP recruitment line for several days, I've had no luck and my test said 0%. I just received an e-mail saying that because my test score was so low, I've been rejected. As a result, I am hoping to be able to re-take the test but I'm not sure how. I tried re-registering and applying with another email address but it must have recognised my details as it said 'Duplicate application' and that only my first application would be accepted. I would really like to re-apply and possibly resit the test if possible as this district is closer to me and wondered if anyone knew of a way to do this? I have tried emailing the DWP about this problem and phoning the Job Centre but so far have had no luck. Thanks.0 -

See following section of email I received today.
We are also aware of technical difficulties some people are having when trying to submit the application form (with competency statements/examples) or the completion of the on line test. We do want to reassure you that we are doing everything we can to rectify this and ask that you only ring the Recruitment Helpline if your call is directly related to technical issues that are preventing you from submitting your online application form (with your competency statements/examples) or the completion of the online test. Thanks Drwho, I also received this email a short while ago. However, my problem is that they haven't responded to my emails and each time I've tried to call them, I haven't got through so I am worried that I might not be able to resolve this problem before the closing date and as a result, am hoping to complete a new application before the 23rd. Not sure if this is possible though.0

Hi guys
I suppose the only people you are competiting with are those individuals who have applied within the same district hence the civil service site suggesting that even if you have a high score you may not get through..... Nonetheless an above average score is a positive.... I got 20/24 and 220/336 with overall of 68% and another individual on here got 19/24 and 219/336 with a score of 61% so the differences in actual scores are minimal...
Speech over lol! Quick question...... Where do you get this word document from what asks you to select your preferred town???0 -
O and do you have to apply separately to different districts?.... that seems a bit silly!0

I wonder if everyone who applied got that email though or did it depend on the score?
Hmmmm0 -
I would imagine everyone received it :]0
