Car hire in Ireland is for pennies, last time we went we were over there for 4 days, got the car at Cork airport and returned it at Dublin (incurring a e30 fee) with my DH as the driver who was a month under 25 (again, bumped up the price) and it cost us £61 for the 4 days. I've just had a very quick look for you and I've found a few for around £30, so probably a lot more economical than a taxi.
I'd also recommend Bewley's at the airport, very smart, very cheap, great staff, decent food prices and I think you can even use Tesco vouchers for them. If you're only 10k from the airport it's usually the area with the cheapest hotels and has easy parking.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Add the parking charges to that before you do the sums. Also, is one of you going to stay off the alcohol so that you can drive back to the hotel?0 -
I will be flying into Dublin Airport Thursday 21st June and need to fly back Saturday 23rd. Need some hotel suggestions please. Also would it be cheaper to hire a car than taxis? I dont drink so no worries about drinking & drivingAdd the parking charges to that before you do the sums. Also, is one of you going to stay off the alcohol so that you can drive back to the hotel?

If you can post where the wedding actually is that will help in pointing you towards best choices for accommodation and which side of city would be best. I wouldn't recommend driving in Dublin and parking is very expensive. Public transport from airport and in and around the city is usually ok. If the venue is a good way out of Dublin then a car may be a better option.
I had a quick look at places I normally stay for your dates and prices seem ok on Thursday but a lot higher than normal for the Friday. Westlife are playing 2 farewell concerts in Dublin on 22nd and 23rd so prices look like they are jacked up for this! I also checked in July when Bruce Springsteen is playing 2 nights in Dublin and lots of places booked out and what's left is sky high prices. So these events can make a big difference! Better get a room booked for my Bruce trip now!0 -
Hi All. I now have the hotel details.
It is the Waterside Hotel, Donabate on the beach, Co. Dublin. If anyone knows any cheaper hotels near there or around the airport that would be great.
Thank you :-D0 -
looks lovely
Tripadvisor offers two B&Bs nearby and Bord Failte (Ireland's tourism agency) might be able to suggest others as well. There is also a travel lodge at Swords that apparently is reasonably good. Swords also would be ok price wise to eat in etc since it's an ordinary middle class neighbourhood. There's a premier inn for Dublin Airport as well which is reasonably nearby, and other hotels right on site at Dublin airport. These might be a good option though you would need to either build in costs for a hire car/taxis or see if someone might give you a lift. Mitigating against this the hotel the wedding is in does free transfers to and from the airport and you would be onsite. IMHO taxis are fairly expensive in Dublin - I took a very short trip recently there, less than a mile, and it was 6 euro. So you're looking at London prices really.
You must be getting excited by now
Edited to add in the tripadvisor link in case you don't know it - www.tripadvisor.co.uk
Just search for the area you're interested in and it will bring up a list of local hotels etc0 -
Tricky situation, but I honestly feel that the best thing you can do is to go. This could easily be the one thing you will regret for a long time if you don't go. I read a post above that said you can find stuff lying about your house which you don't use and and sell on ebay, that is indeed good advice. The cost isn't very restrictive either, and I'm sure you will be able to put aside a couple of quid here and there every day and save up for it. Think how happy your brother is going to be to have you there. Who knows, you may also mend things up with your sis. x0

I'd recommend the Clarion Hotel at the airport or Bewleys Hotel at the airport - I've stayed at both of them. Premier Inn in Swords and Travelodge Dublin Airport North are also near to the venue. Premier Inn has free parking. I think they are all room only so you'd need to factor in breakfasts too0
