Wish I could, used to live in your area :TI, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.

I use whatever I've got to hand!!
It tends to be either utterly butterly, ICBINB, or shops own brand.
I used to always use block marg...but now tend to use the soft stuff and just bung it all in the mixer together.
If I'm doing crumbles I don't even bother weighing all the ingredients...just go on what it looks and feels like
ME TOO!!!!
It just means another thing to wash (the scales!)

The meter belongs to the water people and they own the pipe up to my house too but I don't know where the cut off point is. I changed to a meter about 3 years ago as I thought for 1 person it would be cheaper.
My usage hasn't changed at all, if anything I'm using a bit less as I'm conscious of the cost!
I know I have to wait until Monday until the inspector comes out but it's such a worry I don't know what the problem is:(

This is a first for me as I never really share my worries so please bear with me:o
I had a letter today from Welsh Water saying here is your bill and btw we notice your water consumption has significantly increased:eek:...kind of 3 or 4 times what I use, I am on a meter.
Checked the reading and not only was it right but it's also gone up by 10 units,I think it's 10 cubic metres of water in 1 week since it was read:eek:...there are not enough  for this.
The letter says we are sending an inspector round, job number but no time or date so I rang them up...after some faffing the girl seems really cheerful and kind and said it could be a fault with the meter but the inspector will tell you more. I am so worried that it won't be that simple because pretty much everything else involves me paying to fix it and I can't afford that:( I can't see any obvious leaks anywhere but the mud which is under the meter below the pavement is quite wet but I can't see anything leaking and that could be rain although it hasn't rained for 4 or 5 days.
I'm praying to God that the meter is at fault but I am really worried this will be my problem and not theirs, also how the hell will the bill be sorted out?
Have any of you had anything like this before? As I said I usually keep my worries to myself but we are a helpful bunch on here so I feel better already!:T Any advice appreciated....TIA!
Sorry for long post too!
Dont panic!!!!
I *ahem* work in this field, not for WW though.
Right, so you've done the first thing - checked the reading, and its correct. Now what you need to do is check if the meter is moving when you are not using any water - ie, have you got a leak.
- Turn off all water in the house - turn off inside stopc0ck if you can, and make sure washing machine/loo/tanks are not filling.
- take reading from the meter.
- Dont use any water for at least an hour.
- Take another reading.
- If the reading has stayed the same, then there is no leak on the pipe between the meter and the house. If it has advanced, then there is most likely a leak somewhere on the pipework or on the meter itself. The inspector will be able to advise you of this. Most water companies will now subsidise a repair so it is not going to cost you the earth.
- Other things to check - dripping taps, faulty overflows, ballvalves etc, check the tank/loos are not constantly filling, which will increase your consumption.
If there is a leak, once it is repaired you should be entitled to an allowance for the wasted water - they will take two readings from the meter after the leak has been repaired, to work out your normal usage, and then credit your account for the excess.
So dont worry! Let us know how it goes0 -

Thanks hun - I've ordered mine and one for my disabled neighbour :T :T
As for your water meter Smart1e, you are right the pipes and meter below to water company and I believe that the pipes from this point are your responsibility. Hopefully it will be the meter or the connections to it, which they should take care of at their expense

sounds like its the pipes leaking or the meter broken, the pipes will be pretty far down so you wouldn't really know, you can't be liable for this, the woman on the phone would be chirpy because she would be used to dealing with things like this, the inspector is an ordinary working man (my x used to do this) its a run of the mill job for them hun they will send the guys out to do the job, please don't be worried about this, they will do a estimate on previous months to work out ur bill. xxxxxx let us know how it goes.lost 9 stone since Feb 2011
