Not 100% sure have een on a post that it should not affect any other accounts , loans etc as held under seperate agreements.

Also have many people had much success with Barclays and how likely is it they will close my account?

Im very interested in doing this and am currently looking at opening a new bank account as suggested. Has anyone ever had their bank account closed after doing this? Also has anyone had any problems with any other products they have with that bank ie. a personal loan?

  • Hi, this is my first thread posted! I'm thinking of claiming my bank charges from the Abbey. However, my mortgage is with them too. Would they try to close my mortgage account as well as possibly my current account?

Look forward to hearing if this is the case.
  • I want to claim back my bank charges but I'm worried about what will happen afterwards, I don't mind the account being closed as I have opened a new one and am in the process of transferring everything over, but I also hold a mortgage and loan with the bank and it is these I'm worried about, I'm assuming they cannot cancel either of these does anyone know if this is true ?

A loan comes with a contract. If you haven't defaulted on the contract then neither can they by calling the loan in.
Hamsters have no tact and diplomacy, nor do they want any.
  • Thanks thats what I was thinking.

    Hi Suzanne,

Your mortgage should be covered by a completely seperate agreement to your current account.

My boyfriend has a mortgage with the same bank as his current account (HSBC) and he is reclaiming his bank charges.

If in doubt, check your mortgage agreement for any written clauses to this nature.

    Good Luck,
    :pRhi22 :p
