Opinion has been asked in a similair vein on mortgage accounts and the general thought is that the mortgage is a seperate agreement and so shouldnt be affected.

The banks stand to make a lot of money out mortgage accounts and associated products such as Life Insurance and Buildings & Contents insurance. It would be like putting a gun to their heads if they started turning down mortage applications on the basis of reclaimed charges.

I was about to claim from barclays for charges, but my mortgage with the Woolwich and its linked account is now being moved to Barclays. If I claim, is there a risk they might respond by closing this aswell as my claimed for account? Having the linked account is a part of the mortgage contract, even though I've never used it, so if they close this account technically I will not meet the conditions of my mortgage, even though not my choice.

Hi all - I am going to contact HSBC for Bnak Charges but before I do I just wondered would this jeopardise my mortgage with them? I have recently opened up another bank account but am worried that they might do something with my mortgage?
Any help/advise would be most welcome.
    Thanks

  • Before embarking on a pursuit to try to obtain my unauthorised current account bank charges back from the Halifax, is anyone able to advise me on the following please?

If I progress a claim against the Halifax, which could (as I understand it) put my current account at risk of being closed down, is there also a possibility that they will close both my loan account and mortgage and ask me to settle these immediately?

I am sure that they are not within their rights to do so, unless I have frequently been late making repayments (which I have not been), but I don't want to put this borrowing at risk.

Many thanks in advance for any advice or guidance you can give!

  • I was just wondering if anyone has claimed against a bank that they also have a mortgage with?

I'd love to take Abbey to the cleaners but I unfortunately also have my mortgage with them. Since they've been closing accounts of people taking action I'm a bit worried they'll go after my mortgage too.

Has anyone had any experiences with similar situations?

I claiming my charges back off the abbey, and i have my mortgage with them.
I'm not sure what the outcome will be, but i want all the money back they have taken off me!!
I would say go for it, its your money.
  • im claiming back my charges and also have a mortgage with the same bank (halifax) someone said as long as your not in arrears with any of your payments you should be ok as it is a seperate agreement and im sure if they did try and do something about your mortgage account you would be able to sue them or something
  • Doesn't anyone have any answers to this thread?

At the moment, it is only speculation! I think there must be alot of people in this position and it would be really good to hear from some people who have either (a) been successful and not had to close their other loan, mortgage accounts or (b) exactly the opposite!
  • I am interested in getting my charges back but am unsure how this will effect my mortgage with the same bank could there be any repercussions in get back charges on my currant account?

Also have many people had much success with Barclays and how likely is it they will close my account?
