Just wondering if I should tread carefully with Alliance & Leicester when claiming bank charges as I also have a mortgage with them. Should I send the usual "strong" letter, or tone it down a little. Not too bothered if they close the bank account, but don't want to put the mortgage in jeopardy.

    Any advice appreciated ...

I have a similar problem, but possibly more risky.

I have a mortgage with Alliance & Leicester with an unpaid DD fee on it (the mortgage account, not the bank account!).

Has anybody successfully made such a claim and kept their mortgage open?

No, presuming your mortgage account is in good order and payments are up-to-date.
  • My OH is reluctant to put in a claim for bank charges with HSBC, as his mortgage is also with them. He's worried they might close his account, and then what would happen with the mortgage

    Hi,

I have started to reclaim my bank charges from the Halifax. I already have a mortgage with them but I am looking to move house and I want to know if reclaiming my bank charges will effect me when I apply for the new mortgage. Does anybody know???
  • I am reclaiming bank charges from Clydesdale bank current account. a bit worried because my mortgage account is also with them and is offset against my current account. anyone any ideas if my mortgage could be affected never any late or missed mortgage payments.

There have already been a couple of responses to this question ... basically these are two different issues and, if your mortgage is up to date with no missed payments, they will be unable to penalise you by closing your mortgage account. You are ENTITLED to claim back your bank charges and they must respond accordingly and stick to being within the law, so don't worry.icon7.gif

Folks, I am about to submit my claim for bank charges to Abbey but I am also buying a house using Abbey's mortgage. Will my claim affect my mortgage application (it has been approved and offered).

Perhaps I should wait until the purchase goes through or will Abbey demand money back in same way they have been closing the accounts after they paid out?

    Grateful for your advice/thoughts.

    Thanks.
