Leeds Bradford airport rip off

I am yet to see a shop charging 1000000000 for a can of beans though I keep getting told that they can do it.
Which proves my point that companies simply cannot charge whatever they want for their products.
If the said tin of beans was made using 22 carat gold, if the Haricot beans had been especially grown from a plant cultivated in the greenouse of HM the Queen. If the Tomato sauce was made from the finest tomatoes grown on the foothills of Mount Etna. If the Label was made from 100 %egyptian cotton and the beans where picked by, 100 year old sisters of the perpetual virgin , and the can was previously owned by Michael Jackson, then it wouldn't sell for 76p !
Your argument is useless. You wouldn't sell a tin of beans for £1m, but there is nothing stopping me puting one on ebay and asking for that! There is no legal presidence to stop me. The prices we are charged for products, is set by the manufacturer on 3 simple things.
1. What it costs to make and make a margin
2. What the retailer is willing to take as an acceptable margin for that product.
3. What the end user is willing to pay for it.
There is nothing else ( apart from a price war) which would affect it's price.
So can we please stop talking about beans, bannanas, apples, sausages or any other food orientated products and get back on topic !0 -
So that just proves my point that saying companies can charge whatever they want for a product is simply wrong. They cannot charge 1000000000 for a tin of ordinary baked beans.
They could if they wanted too ! It wouldn't sell but as it has a long shelf lfe, it doesn't really matter to them. If some soft sod picked it up and paid for them at £1m and thought it was value for money, then they havent done anything wrong !
Also, if it didn't sell and went past BB4 date then they have only lost the manufacturing and margin aspiration which is 76p. They won't go bust for that amount.
It could be a good marketing tool actually, sell the £1m beans at 76p, people would be queing up to buy them !
I can see why people now have got fed up with you. Care in the comminity isn't working here !0 -
Pictures snipped
I think the complaint (as I've understood it) is that once you have reached that point you know you are going to be charged - but there doesn't seem to be the option of deciding you don't want to pay, turning round and going back. In other words, you are committed before you get there.0 -
In an attempt to drag things back on topic, why not just drop your passengers off just before you get to the barriers in post number 12?

I think the argument is that there is nowhere to turn round if you do - at least that's what OP seems to be saying. Whether it's true or not - no idea.0 -
Do you think posting the same thing at least 50 times despite being told by EVERYONE you are wrong is going to convince anyone?
Despite what products you list in your posts you are still 100% wrong. A company can charge WHATEVER they want for a product. Whether that product will sell is another question entirely.
Please stop posting the same thing and change the record, enter into an adult debate rather than acting like a child.
Or provide some evidence that you are right, rather than changing the products in your posts.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
It's pointless, this person is clearly a few cards short of a full deck.
All they can do is write the same drivel. I am pretty sure that typifies someone grossly ignorant. I blame the parents, they should restrict access to the computer whilst their kids are on school holidays.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
Crikey, what have I started? I'm the OP.
Thank you, 2sides2everystory, for the sensible contributions. You're correct; by the time you approach the barrier you're in a narrow, one way, high-curbed lane from which it is impossible to turn around. In any case, most people seeing a sign saying, "drop off and short stay" with a list of charges beneath it would think, "well, obviously those are the charges for PARKING in the short stay car park".
I should also point out that when you are driving it's unlikely that you will have time to take in all the detail of a busy and weasel-worded sign, even if you could turn around.
Does anybody really consult airport websites before dropping somebody off to find out whether they will be charged for spending 2 minutes letting a passenger out of the car without even switching the engine off? I don't think so. Like me, you learn the hard way.
Don't ask me to feel sorry for poor, skint Leeds Bradford Airport, by the way. I'll be doing my best to avoid flying from there again. Money grubbing *******s.
There, not a mention of baked beans.........0 -
Aww you ruined it with that last sentence
It's hardly a weasel-worded sign, there are far far far worse one (invisible ones mostly). It does seem a little harsh if there really is no way to escape though.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -

There is no escape, once you're in there. It caught me out too. We'd arrived back from Malaga and were parked in the long stay car park, but my Dad couldn't walk that far, so I told him to hang on and I'd get the car and come back round for him. £2 later and he was off on a moanathon about "rip-off Britain" and couldn't wait to get home to Spain******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0
