LBM in 2003.. What have I been doing since??!

It's dry here and a little bit sunny. Inspired by your comment about fruit bushes I'm logging off to dig over a small bed in my garden where i can put berry bushes in. I'm thinking raspberry and blackcurrants as these are usually expensive. Sounds like growing them is easy enough? Anyway off to start digging. Thanks for the inspiration! If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

Really glad to hear it DiA!! Have to put in a suggestion of a loganberry too? And gooseberries seem to thrive on neglect in my opinion!
If you have some shade then try wild garlic/ransoms. They grow like wildfire and make the most gorgeous pesto (or just use as salad leaves). We grow sorrel too whilst I am chatting about salad..
Allotment is no more unfortunately. It just got too much and we are now concentrating on maximum production from our v small back garden.. Including of course our chooksHave you thought about getting some?

Like DiA's 3 Good Things list..bit like the what DFW things list which is always a winner...
So..
- groceries - used a MOV and even though came to £84 after the £5 reduction, I have stocked up on some YS fruit and veg and put in some additional supplies into the freezer and fridge (eg. 4 blocks of cheddar) for the Term Break when we are feeding some more (did you know you can freeze cheddar with no ill effect? My mum taught me that. Very handy when you have gannets like my two!)
- interesting developments on the lodger front..may be different to what we expected..but we have said we're open to ideas and will see if anything occurs
- thinking some more on our tithing..zakat..whatever you want to call it. It's not bad, I guess, but it's all proportionate, it's probably £175 pm. But 'should' be more... I need to think on whether we should bite the bullet, rejig the budget and just find some more for those who have considerably less than we do
- used MOV for cinema tickets. So all 4 of us going to see a movie this afternoon for £15. We will cycle there and take snacks and a flask of coffee (v middle class hey??!;)) (those that know me in RL would probably expect a G&T but I am restraining myself :rotfl:) so no chance of any additional spends
- the glory of having hens...just had the most perfect boiled egg for lunch. The joy of small things..
Oh and the sun is out. I can peg out...(hope you already have, Alice;))
Have a great day.MFiT-T4 Member No. 96 - 2022 is my MF goal

Well movie was great and the cake and coffee was sublime
Can't beat a flask hey...and have realised that I should just take one to work tomorrow for the train
So it's washed and ready
Washing still on line after mega drenching!
We did give in and have cheap but v good pizza at the local pub. All in the budget tho. It seemed a nice end to the weekend as the rain lashed down as we cycled home!MFiT-T4 Member No. 96 - 2022 is my MF goal

I love the idea of wild garlic leaves in a salad and sorrel. I too have a small garden but it's big enough to grow something, so I will. Funny you should mention gooseberries, someone else in RL suggested pink gooseberries...Re chickens, I wish! My neighbours actually feed a family of foxes. I had to build expensive fencing just to reclaim my garden from themI couldn't risk it...but good for you
And I love flasks, they have saved me so much money and they are comforting too. I have a Stanley food flask too. Very retro and so efficient and thermos for my coffee too. Hope you used yours today. Still reading your diary, so much to read...If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

Ouch to feeding foxes. Yes they will take them if they have the chance - we have lost a few over the years to their opportunism even in broad daylight
Good to gooseberries, wild garlic and sorrel. Make sure you give plenty of room to the bushes you plant as they can grow quite big.
Today I did use my flask for coffee, and it worked brilliantly. Will do that again tomorrow (in fact can hear OH grinding coffee beans now) and enjoyed my cycle in and back with my new gear. New tyres making a nice difference. TT done and all CCs paid off. V simple tea of jacket potatoes - DD2 announced her pride in her meal planning for the family.. She thinks she's aced it this week and she's only 12!:) Love it.
Holibobs coming up (kids off school and DD1 with exams) but will do some work to keep everything ticking over. Can't do nothing that's for sure as that doesn't help my cash situation. Funny that:)
Have a great evening folks XMFiT-T4 Member No. 96 - 2022 is my MF goal

Brizzle, your 12 year old DD sounds fantastic! She is doing so much better than most teenagers in cooking for her loved ones and I congratulate her! Most of the teenagers I teach have no clue where the oven is let alone turn it on.... Glad you enjoyed the cinema. DD is nagging me to help her revise and is threatening to take over my post so I'd better go!!!!With family, friends and pets (or any combination of them) life will be fine!

Good mommy for encouraging you DD to meal plan and cook! Her self esteem is built on jobs like this where she feels she has accomplished things well. Such important life lessons being learned at your house.
I'm glad you are enjoying your bike. Great gear makes all the difference.
OH grilled burgers and we had them bunless with all the usual including avocados. Juicy and delish dinner!! I'm on a weight loss mission so this was perfect for me.Overprepare, then go with the flow.

Thanks guys. I do feel very fortunate. And an NSD yesterday!! :T my first this month!! Must update signature. The sun is shining, I have a good flask of coffee and doing some exercise. I feel less angry now I am not sitting in a traffic jam, wasting my time and those of everyone else around me! Far more relaxing although do appreciate that it may be a lot harder when the nights draw in...
DD2 can be a pickle but she has a good soul and a good moral compass. She has chosen hash browns, bacon and LO pork from weekend, beans and eggs for dinner this eve... Pretty unusual for us but it's her choice. She loves flipping eggs and of course we have a plentiful supply! About 2 a day at the moment. One is moulting so don't think she's laying.
Going to read the paper now on the train.. Joy of small things;)
Have a good day everyoneMFiT-T4 Member No. 96 - 2022 is my MF goal
