there is little bit confusion how it will reduces it challenge

It has to be yellow sticker/reduced/half price/money off to be in the challenge, nothing costing full price, if you wait for the second yellow sticker reduction you get great bargains, they are not sustainable on their own as they are lucky to get time wise and stock wise but everything else always is either half price or reduced 342 that type of thing and can save a small fortune

Hi chardonnay - what store was this that is open until late on a Sunday?

I know this wasn't addressed to me, but my local T Express is open until 11pm on Sundays.

Do shops have more than one reduced area? Where should I look for the whoopsie areas?

Didn't see anyone answer this - it depends on the store and particularly its size. Mine (Express as mentioned above) only has one whoopsie area. Used to be in the sandwich chiller near the entrance, now in the meat chiller. In the larger T Metro store I go to on the way home from work, they have four reduced areas. Meats, bakery, produce and then a storecupboard whoopsies at the back of the store. Although this is more for damaged than short dated items. At least in all Ts I've been in, the sections are always clearly marked with the bright yellow clearance shelf edges.

My other shop is M&S, they don't have any reduced areas and will just reduce and put in its regular spot. My local Waitrose does this as well. So you have to check the whole store.

Like a few others, I am mainly trying to get most of my meat on YS or at least on offer. I haven't paid full price for meat all year, except for a few joints I got from the farmer's market. Don't feel bad about that though, at least the money is going directly to them rather than a supermarket. But I find I rarely pay full price for anything now, probably only the less popular items like dairy free goods as they're rarely on offer.

And I live in quite a posh area, so rarely have to fight for the bargains as no one else seems to be looking at them - apart from in M&S! Then it's every person for themselves. :D

    So some bargains this week...
Salmon - £1.95 (enough for dinner for 3)
    Spring onions - 10p
Swede and parsnips - 30p each
    Crumpets - 45p

Hiya! Really? I'm the other way. It bugs me when my OH tears the sticker off because I want to be reminded how much a meal is actually costing several weeks down the line - it tastes much better knowing it was a bargain :p.

Welcome and post any tips - you sound like you have it sussed :T

I started taking them off because when DS had friends for tea he got embarrassed at all the yellow stickers, so it became habit. Now it's totally reversed and he loves telling them how little I paid for stuff. Other reason is I do get the hump when they've stuck the yellow sticker over the calories and the weight of the meat so I can't work out how long to cook it for:o

My favourite whoopsies at the moment are flowers but I won't buy them till they go to 10%, This is probably cos the freezers are full:o In one of my T's it's survival of the fittest at whoopsie time but the rest are not too bad. My top tip which everyone probably knows is always be nice and polite to the reducing staff, they are sort of like my friends now:oI always chat to them and ask nicely if somethings being reduced and remember my pleases and thank yous and it seems to work;)Between whoopsies and glitches my shopping bill has gone from being anything from £120-£180 a week to about £30 now, and that's just in the last 12 months. I knew I was developing a problem though when I met another mse'er to go whoopsying on New Years Eve and was planning the best time! which was about 5pm in mine:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Oh I do xmas eve and NYE it is an absolute must in this house, an expected outing:rotfl: whatever we are doing, it gets stopped and off we go, all of us to get the bargains, my best on xmas eve was a £65 turkey with stuffing down to £8.15p and the SA was so apologetic saying that is the best I can do it for you for:rotfl: it was the best lean beautful turkey breast ever and even sweeter for the price:D

I already had 2 turkeys but hey was not going to pass that one up:D

One NYE I got enough meat from Sainsburys to cover the following 6/7 weeks, I HAD bags and bags of it for a ridiculous cheap price, the saving was amazing, we go every year.

Like wednesday I know it is not food related necessarily but I wil lbe there first thing after valentine's day to pick up all the stuff for next year as it goes back down to silly prices, chocs also if they are heart shaped so look out for them and the rest of the meal deals go into the yellow stickers, never thought the meal deals were value for money but reduced they are worth it.

I buy my bikinis in January, my coats in June, my xmas presents in January, my bedding in June or Jan depending on the reductions, if you buy out of turn it is so much cheaper.

Totally agree with the xmas food shopping. We where away this xmas and flew back xmas eve. Sad to say hubby had done the shopping but I went on the way home just to get a few bits. It was fab. Organic free range turkeys too big to fit in my oven £5. More meat than I could fit in two freezers.

We always get the kids there bits but we wait until the sales. Started as a bit of a joke a few years back but now I actually plan what I want and then go the 26th and get it for a fraction of the cost. Better presents less money ! Fab The shopping out of season saves a fortune as well.

I would just be careful with the meal deals when you look at the fat and salt contents some can be a heart attack on a plate.
Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A
  • hi, we popped up to m0rrisons to take advantage of the veg offers, picked up 4 packs of the baking pots for 30p each they are a nice size, its a good offer for us as we eat a lot of them either as baked or cut into hm wedges also a bag of the 30p onions. no big reductions on meat or fish but picked up several packs of rolls and two cheese and tomato flat breads for 19-29p each so pleased with them as we had run out of rolls. popped into large c0-0p on way home as i believe they do very good meat reductions, nothing at all so left without buying anything. as we were driving past asda we stopped and had a look, packs of mushrooms 25p each so picked up a couple, also packs of fillet steak with 3 in had been reduced by half so thats in the oven now with wedges. enjoy your evening.

well last night ended up going in co-op about half 5.

hit fruit and veg first-as usual.

    got salads 35p a bag 75%off
chillis down from 80p to 20p
loads of baby new poatoes as part of valentines deal flashmarked at £1 paid 30p got 2 pots.

nothing else there no good fruits.

hit meat and fish-poor reductions on what they did have.

then saw lady with trolley at chilled section she took stuff from bay but also had stuff collected in crates that days date and said she had to take it to end by deli not to block ailse.

there was me and 3other ladies hanging out. chatted away to girl about how it must be like carboot sale and how horrid it was last thursady she agrees said its got really bad these days.
but me and another lady chatted whiulst we waited where there was 2 of something we asked if wanted it split. we picked items we wanted and patiantly waited for girl with trolley to reduce for us best way sometimes to get bargainas as handpicking what we wanted. we were polite said please and thankyou.

then a rather pushy woman came up with her troly picked up 10packs of ham at 60p each for 200g and daid great this will freeze what bargains you got for me then? me and other lady fine as got what we needed i only had £10cash on me and got all i wanted

2packs diced chicken tikka peices about£2.50 normally 90p each
    1pack 200g ham down to 60p
they had really fancy thick organic yogurt on tub 500g with little handle.
was £1.89 normally apple and cinnamon I dont like yogurts but baby might do as they been out of stock on value yogurts for days reduced to 35p least 6-8 servings for kids in little pots.
trying to think what else but think the ham, tikka chicken and yogurt was it.

the bakery section poor reductions and not much there.

hit grocery bric a brac and ocassionally some random offers.

the 14pack quavers on offer at moment not sure if half or 1/3 off they £1.82 for 14
these were opened warpper but done up but al 14. they tupe in current price which ast reduced 25%cut made them bargain £1.22 for 14.

pushy lady with trolley followed me round.

nothing else took my fancy they have thorntons chocs reduced to £3
might go get more icecream cones tommoorw as they 65p cheapest seen is £1 elsewhere.

last night hadreduced meatballs brought sat in co-op, reduced salad, hm passatta sauce with reduced onions and reduced chillis serves with value spagetti and value garlic bread.

oh 1 garlic bread was reduced from £1.05 to £1.02!

Spent £8.73 thats mostly reduced and value/own brand estimate maybe saves least fiver if not more.
like it on some receipts tells you how much saved.

love bargain hunting its like a game now almost makes foodshopping fun.

Im buying christmas and birthday pressies for kids now babys not 1 until april and toddlers 3 in september also buying their xmas pressies fora ll 3 on ebay.
