Yeah the apple pies which they bake on premises are rare but rhubarb is now almost every week, your carrot cakes will freeze

Thanks HOWMUCH, had looked at ingredients and since it doesn't say DO NOT FREEZE was sure it would be ok, nothing in them I wouldnt attempt to freeze, though dont know if will be as good as fresh :s

Think since they done up my co-op at end of last year, they got rid of the space between ailses, used to be 2 x 4, now 4 big long ailses to have maximised space for products, here im sure the bakery stuff comes from a depot or perhaps they send the home delivery van over with some from the store nearby that has a bakery ?

The pies are fairly nice, don't grudge it full price as its a treat occaisionally, though am sure u will enjoy them at 35p.

Really want to grab some apples from aldi, think they got granny smith's, which are about as good as bramleys for a home made apple pie, which although a little work, am sure will be well worth it, will get apples whilst in aldi at end of week as need some stuff and other super6 and maybe have apple pie next weekend.

Anyway off for a slab of carrot cake, so will let you know how I get on tmrw, got eye on lamb chops and diced chicken, away before half my cake ends up over keyboard lol

CAN ANYONE HELP ? - Im assuming cheese strings are ok for freezing, but never froze mozzarella, is it ok to bag them out of their original watery bag, i'm thinking thats just there to keep them from drying out whilst transport/refridgeration, will it be ok taken out the packaging and sliced or kept whole for use later from freezer ?

    Many thanks :)

  • Hi all, just read through all the postings and it's so reassuring to learn it's not only me who participates in the yellow sticker challenge. I am relatively new to shopping this way but wish I'd done it years ago as the money we are saving is incredible. So far, I've only gone as far as our local Tesco which is not very big but does have some great knock downs, especially on ready meals, veg and bread (my freezer is also full of bread). They tend to start reducing their chilled ready meals and veg around 6.30 and their bread around the same time.

We have a very large Morrisons nearby but I've never used it for yellow stickering. Looks like many of you do well in Morrisons so I might give it a try tonight. Can anyone tell me what time they usually start to reduce in Morrisons?

Many thanks and will let you know how I get on.

I went to morrisons last night to get a few bits (though forgot milk durrr) and did well on the reductions...until I got to the self serve checkout - not a single item would read and I had to stand there inputting the codes from every sticker - took me ages as when you make a mistake and try and clear it clears the whole not just the last digit so some i had to do 3 or 4 times as the keypad was dodgy. I was stood getting more and more flustered as had to be back to pick dd up from gym, the queue behind me building - I nearly just dumped it all and fled in embarrassment but I refused to be beaten!!

Got a big wedge of edam, 2 packs mozarella, pate, rye bread and a big bag of greens for free for the chickens! Oh and bes tof all - 2 packs of jus roll all butter patsry - with tockens to cut out for a free le crueset pie dish - have been after one for ages so chuffed to bits= - happy to buy 2 packs at full price to get the other 2 as worth it

    whole 1kg chicken £4 reduced to £1.68-least 2meals.
diced beef £3 reduced to £1.50

    avoided the reduced bread.

so far spent £115 already this month my month started on 13th.
cant dop farmfoods as no room in freezer
will keep chedcking spar and c0-op but only buying reduced meat and veg.
getting hubby to pop in aldi today do super six as doing sw so need more fruit and veg

Off to lilds sat for weekend deals.
hubbys thinking we should get 12 packs of half price reduced lean mince as its £1.34 im woindering if be sick of mince but would ensure us ok as would do big lasgane and shepards pie and prtion off into 8tubs so 14meals from just 2packs of mince!

Think will avoid butcher this week as have

reduced sausages, gammon and bacon in freezer
have 1whole chicken, 3packs chicken fillets and some frozen fish.-all reduced.
    4readymeals
if I combine this with the lildls mince should be fine. apart from fresh milk and fruit/veg.

apart from fillings packed lunches sorted for next month with out of date crips and 300rolls in freezer.

thinking about it even though what im getting is slim pickings its still allowing us to get by.
have something reduced nearly every day.

kids have on offer cereal and slice of reduced bread or reduced pancake for breckfast most days.
kids including baby have reduced yogurts baby quite likes the 9p ski and activia pots.
last night kids had reduced spag bol readymeal each 30p each in co-op before xmas.
we had reduced steak with hm sw wedges, frozen farmfood veg and a hm sw peppercorn sauce made from reduced onion and on offer natural yogurt.
Today using the reduced diced beef to on offer stirfry and noodles for my lunch.
kids having chicken kiev, chips and frozen peas for tea.
toddlers having sandwich made from reduced bread, ham for lunch with reduced crips.
babys having on offer baby food and reduced yogurt.

hubbys eating out tonight so im having a large salad (reduced)with eggs, reduced ham, on offer cheese and potatoes for tea.

Could do with some advice on eldests party want to do food for about 60p per head

    so reduced roll 1-2p each
    1pack crisps
    carton drink
    hm fairy cake

but whats cheapest filling? chicken or ham? or maybe just cheese?
would rather do 1of each in mini roll for 20 5year olds? does that seem enough?

ordering nice cake from watrose and doing partybags so thourght to avoid waste and expense get the portion sizes right and costed on food. last year we did similar a cardboard happy meal style box with

sandwiches but too hubby ages to do 30mini sandwiches with crust cut off.
I do lovley mini quiches but not every kid likes quiche did think hm mini pizzas?
think we did sandwich, carton, crisps, yogurt and choc bar last year cant remember if we added fruit?
To save money this year using paper party bags not ridgid boxes as cheaper as works out 22p per bag leaving 78p but have cost a napkin, buy carton drinks and cost up remaining food.

Would love to do something really nice and classy all from reduced section.
did get some 49p partyfood reduced in co-op last week!
maybe should add a sausage to the bag?
or have additional snacks on trays for adults?

Will keep doing spar/co-op throughout months looking for reductions.
might do morrisions again next week and get hubby to hit sainsburys late maybe tesco as he drives.

morrisions reduced 7pm on mon but cashier said usually 8 so maybe be prepared to linger.
think each store different depending on how bust they are and staffing levels.

well done everyone on bargains-happy hunting!

Thanks Rachbc, was just hoping to save some space, but they will manage to get squeezed into spaces around everything else :)

Also just read your result in mr M's, well done, would be nice to get one of those pie dishes too, will look out for them reduced next time im in :)
  • Gailey, my motto is so long as its atlest about 50% off full price and you will need/use it anyway then might aswell take whilst you can.

I see you avoided the reduced bread, lol, that must have been a bit of a challenge, hard to pass up but you are well stocked up on bread and rolls, atleast till after party.

You have the right idea about the party, maybe just do it as a huge buffet of sandwiches, sausage rolls, quiche etc that way everyone can pick what they want ?, would suggest just use plastic cups of juice rather than spend most of budget on cartons ? even if you do stick to party bags, leaving the juice separate will save as small cartons are expensive.

Wish everyone could get the bargains i've been getting, am certainly stocked up till atleast end of feb and if they continue will be able to take a load over to mum and dad once they have cleared a little space in their freezer, which mum keeps filling with reduced but usualy only upto 50% off though does get odd very cheap bargain.

Happy hunting to everyone today :)
  • Well just been to mr s and they have a taste the difference Belgian chic cheesecake reduced from 4.50 to 80p BUT it says do not freeze and I won't eat it in the next day or two. Why can't it be frozen? Looked at ingredients and doesn't seem anything unusual. Would you freeze?
