    Evening guys.

well got to my local co-op at 3.30 and never seen it so bad for reductions

    no reduced produce
    no reduced meat
hardly anything in chilled reduced either
few things on bakery but was fresh crusty bread usally no good frozen

The reductions they did have on meat were tiny and some appearfed to be todays date maybe they were missed.

Was bit of mess in there and lots empty shelves and ends.

The special offers leaftlet ends 17th so maybe be some reduced on stuff that was on offer then.

What little I did see todays date had good reduction so I brought it as thourght yes I can use it.#

    so my haul included.

2 fresh youngs cod fillets with side dressing -always seems to be in reduced but never as cheap as today:|)was £3.99 reduced to £1 so got last 2. had tonight nice but not worth £3.99.

richmonds 12pack sausages £2.50 down to 85 so sausage casserole tommorow.

then hit fresh bakery and got

pattiserie cake for hubby 25p unsure of price full?
    mini french stick 20p
4ciabbiatta panini rolls 25p-girls had toasted ham cheese paninis with chips tonight
reduced itlaian sald 75p not huge saving but needed it.

frsh berry mix reduced to £1.25 not great saving but knew kids would adore it!
    then hit longlife bakery got

5hovis brown rolls 35p-unsure of full price
    12mini rolls for kids 35p was £1.35
2sticxky toffee muffins think was £1 now 25p hubby had 1 said they yum other one in daughters lunchbox.

chilled- 2packs ww wafer thin chicken was £2+a pack 35p.
hoping it be ok for next couple of days.
debating on making chicken quiche tommorow then freezing it,
rest can go in sandwiches and maybe do the kids chicken pasta tommorow for tea.
fresh pilau rice in pots was £1.59 now 20p in a pot , can be frozen so of course brought last 2 not sure who in rioght mind would pay £1.59 for small pot rice!

grocery section- nothing wrong with thewm date or aapearance unsure why reduced same brand as jammy dodgers but toffee was over £1 cant remember exact down to 35p.

    treated mytself to few offers.

spent £15 all together but quite dissapointed as really need some meat.

got home then when hubby came home

went round corner shop as mentioned got 6pack monster munch for 5p few days out of date.
anyway asked raj the owner if he had any left. he said i do you a deal

got 12packs on monstor much in multipacks.
then 12 packs of family size bags large ones said rrp £1.29
so 24 bags for £3 but the last 12 were huge!
Also got 19individuial bags of walkers for £1!

Somestime local can pay off as have good relations with him.
brought 25bottles of coke in glass for £5 last year!
love coke from a glass bottle very old skool.

Moved onto spar but had 3bags of crisps.
so told cashier look been to another shop can you look after my crips whilst i get my shopping he loooked at me like I was mad.

Got essentials milk, eggs but no meats, proiduce or chilled today.
Once again drawn to bakery got 12pack white rolls 30p so brought 2 think they were £1
got granary 2loaves for 37p each dident mind as granary seeded most expensive
got smaller size half loaf for 27p
kingsmill pancakes for kids £1 down to 25p.

But now need to stocktake freezer
think have months worth bakery stuff maybe more!
but its all I can get and its such bargains detest paying full price for bread!
Im suppost to be limiting bread as on sw but rest of family milk and bread monstors.
Annoyingly they had milk for 14p but was skimmed,

got home hubby looked at me like I was mad.

Tommorow night morrisions and co-op my last chance before i give in and got butchers on friday and maybe farmfoods thursday.getting mince from lidls sat.

so this week told hubby its sausage and fish week as thats all I have in the freezer!
    maybe chicken slices omlette!

Well done everyone on such bargains much better than mine!

  • Wow I've only just found this thread to follow as there are so many boards on here..:)

I was talking with DH today and we honestly don’t know the last time we bought something not reduced, but this does exclude milk, and one particular seeded bread which is lovely an Asda homebrand. :o

We have an extra chest freezer which before Christmas we ran down to empty it didn’t feel good to have no reserves but it is nice to know what is in there now, it is crammed with reduced foods.
It is a wonderful feeling when we are able to pick up reductions, we tend to pick up the massively reduced items, we have been lucky with both 5p and 10p meat and chilled items, and we get a great variety of food. We do plan quite carefully by remembering to defrost items, and use canned own brand staples, rice and potatoes.
I’ll post up goodies as and when we come across them in future, as it's nice to tell people who want to know rather than boring other people :rotfl:

Its getting harder as noticed co-op quite busy and people looking round im sure few were reduced bargain hunters.

dont know if went in too late or they never had much today?

never get things low as 5-10p as cant go late enough because of kiddies
maybe morrisions tommorow will hit gold but have been there early evening and only seen few pence off.
will have to invest in bus fare so hoping get something good.

will do 2co-ops tommorow maybe the smaller branch be better.

Skint mum-what they dont know wont hurt them.
I need to expand my soups as make chicken occasionally french onion.
do love the covent garden soups too.

  • Gailey, my co-op is a small one and used to be about 8pm they reduced had found it was more like 6-6.30 now so go up about 20 past and usually am only one looking for bargains though if i leave it till 8 most will have gone.

I base my soups on what veg i can get, had loads of cauliflower and brocolli over xmas, so just threw in some onion and garlic and broke them up into pan and barely covered with chicken stock then mushed up, my food processorneeds a new belt or I would have blitz it.

Latest soup is carrot, parsnip and swede, needs spicing as very sweet otherwise, so made with some onion cumin corriander chilli etc. add a little more chilli to taste at table as was still very sweet.

Also had about 12 punnets of mushrooms last year that went into soups and curries, casseroles breakfast etc.

I know there is loads of stuff there that will get reduced today including lots of meat and cheese so hope for a good lot and that will be freezer full again, seems that they tend to get lots stocked up for mid week and is dated around the sun/mon/tue so these days tend to be best.

Hope you get something worthwhile today, I now rarely go to morrisons as they now reduce earlier and not by so much, more people there looking so they get picked up even though its not a great deal, used to be 5p/10p things to be had at closing a year or so ago but never any left for final reductions like that nowadays, sainsburys in same area is a hit and miss so only go down there if need to get a few things anyway.

    All the best :)
  • mm thank you that soup sounds yummy and I have got a rubber chicken to make at the weekend so will give that a go.
I want to get another Freezer as the one we have is not very big and always full so I am thinking about putting another one next to it hping to buy one second hand. Hubby is not sure this is a good idea but I think the overall saving would make up for it. What does everyone else think?

skintmum - I too want another freezer and we have space for it in garage. But we just can't afford one at the moment. I'm looking out for one on freecycle but they rarely come up or get snapped up quickly. You could always put a wanted ad on there and see if you get lucky.

I find soup is always easy to make and pretty hard to get wrong !! pepper/cayenne pepper and or some herbs can add flavour or even hide a multitude of sins !! If not made something before just google the veg I have and add soup at end and a recipe or 3 comes up ;)

What is your "rubber chicken" lol :s

I too have a fairly small freezer, just standard fridge freezer with 3 shelves and have to juggle food sometimes to fit in bargains, will occaisionally take out bag of chips and use some and put rest in fridge to use over next day or 2 to freeze some meat etc.

The cost of running a standard undercounter freezer is prob around £50 a year if not less so at even at £1 a week, if it helps feed your family for less by being able to freeze expensive meats/fish etc when at a good reduced price it's paying it's way.

Am seriously thinking about trying to pick one up myself, have seen some for sale for about £20 before so might well invest so I have a bit more flexability. I have a spare space that could be used for dishwasher/tumble drier that I left incase I decided to get one of these when kitchen was done up, was really thinking could be used for a freezer lol ;)

Would be nice to have 1 freezer for meat, a shelf for each type, and have fish veg etc in other.

Am going to pop into Aldi for some of the super 6 and top up with storecupboard things too before into co-op on way back about 6-30, hope no-one has been interested in the price of the lamb chops and cheese etc thats dated today before it get its final reduction :rotfl:

Hope you all have a good day for the bargains ;)
  • Thats what I thought got to be worth it I have nowhere to put it lol would have to work somethiong out what's an undercounter freezer? I am on the hunt for cheese and I can't find it anywhere and I refuse to pay full price now lol.
