Hi Gemini
Yes they will deduct a set figure per person.
if your sons are working then the gross income is taken in to account - this deduction will be anything from £11.45 per week to £73.85 per week
They also deduct from Council Tax Benefit but at a much lower rate. For someone over 25 on JSA or under 25 on JSA (c) it is £3.30 per week.
If they are studying then there is no deduction.0 -
Hi, I cant get him to realise how serious it is to sign on! Yesterday his girlfriend was going back to Scotland, and although I gave him the bus money, he didnt go! So I am rather mad with him today, and told him that it will affect my housing etc and that I am fed up. Wether it fell on deaf ears or not who knows.
So DS is not working or claiming benefits and you end up being the one who gets punished. I thought he had told you he got JSA or was that a lie?
What did the bus money go on? Hopefully he will pay you back. But it will be an effort, as she doesnt keep enough money in the bank to do things, and this week she is paying her phone bill, some £57 so as she hadnt budgeted, she didnt leave herself much to live on. Electric etc all still to be paid.
Once Social Services are involved they might be able to arrange appointeeship which is where the benefits get paid to SS and they pay all the bills and give the person back back for food either daily or weekly depending on how they cope.
I know this is not empowering them but for people with learning difficulties it is the best solution.Twin2 had to go to a jobcentre interview thing, and ended having to give her £8 as I didnt have the time to go in the opposite direction.
I can't understand why they still expect you to run them about when they are able bodied and you are not.I am pleased with the way the bedroom is coming together, and that I have a restful room now. The sewing side is in the corner, and eventually I will get a curtain from Ikia or somewhere that will come from a rail on the ceiling, and partition it all off for me.
One step at a time, my spending for this month is out really. The wardrobes need to be paid for. Put them on the credit card, but will clear the card with my savings when the bill comes in.
Glad your bedroom is coming together, hopefully it will be a nice peaceful sanctuary for you.0 -

I get the feeling that the twins don't actually grasp that Mooloo is not able to run around after them - maybe that's why they still ask?0 -

Hi mooloo, i am a first time poster and was just hoping you could give me some advice please. I am in a similar position to you, I have guardianship of my almost 2yr old nephew. I have been awarded an allowance for him which hasn't been paid yet, but I'm getting mixed advice on wether I can claim ctc and cb. Hope you don't mind me butting in x0

That would require understanding facial expressions and empathy and iirc the twins have autistic spectrum disorders.
I can tell you from experience that although some with ASDs do understand enough to be able to spot when someone is in pain and react (my eldest does although he doesn't empathise he's just learnt that a certain expression means Mum needs extra help), some just never grasp it. My middle son for example doesn't understand that someone can be in pain without blood being visible and even then he will ask if it hurts and how much regardless of whether the person is actually capable of speech.

If your allowance is a Special guardianship allowance then you are entitled to claim the Child benefit, and child tax credits.
If the child is under a social services supervision order, then you are not able to claim child benefit which will mean that you are also not allowed to claim the child tax credits.
However if you are a Foster Carer, you have to register as a Self Employed person. This means that you are working, (I put 94 hours a week down), and that although you do not get a wage, you can put down income 0.00. Then you would be entitled to Working Tax credits. These vary depending on the income you have and your partner if you have one.
i think i am correct in this. It is a very grey area as the rules seem to have changed last year, or recently anyway.
If you claim housing benefit etc, then they do not account for the child as you dont get Child Benefit.
child benefit appears to be the key. You have to have the birth certificate, or the child has to be registered, and you then can claim it. (Unless the child is in the joint care of the SS).
Hope that that helps a bit.
Eager Elephant will possibly be able to help you out if there are any current changes in this.
Eager Elephant. Alas the children do not seem to register that I am in Pain. Although they will ask me how I am? But they dont tend to wait for the reply. They dont seem to reconise the expresions etc, although If I am using my Walking Stick they seem to notice a little bit more.
Re DS, just had the talk. Will drag him to the Jobcentre and sort it out next week.
Then with the TAxi service of Mum, I will try and remember myself to ask the day before, if they have the money. I would take it off of them, but I dont go to see them if I can help it, as I know I get roped into things.
I would like a day off, and not going anywhere, but it is a rare one. Thank god I can drive still.
Right I have to go, serve up the dinner up.
I am taking DS to work, but that was my choice to do today.
However he has been told that if he doesnt start to sort things out, and get set hours and wages from helping in the pub then I am not going to help him. That there is a job being advertised at the pub here in the town and he can walk to it etc.
He needs to get a wage, not just drinks etc. Also he needs it to be regular, and enough hours not to mess up the Jobseekers.
It cant be contributions based as he hasnt been working long enough. He was at college, and then only did about 4 or 5 weeks if that at the job his dad got him. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Apart form collecting DS I have been having a lazy day at home. Had to nip to Homebase to get a new loo seat though. But on the plus side it is better then the plastic council issue, and ties in well with the wooden cupboard in the room.
DS has just put it on for me. Hopefully it will last longer then the council one did.
My neck is not good today. So havent pushed myself. Did want to dig up the front garden but decided that the neighbours will have to put up with the mess another day or so, as I dont want to over do it.
May get DS to help me tomorrow, and DGD can join in as well.
ExBF contacted me last night. First time for a few days. Nothing has changed or anything. Its just that we have to arrange to exchange a few bits n pieces at some stage. Anyway I couldnt have contacted him as I had erased him from all my phones etc etc.
Biggest of Mooloo has gone to stay with friends for the weekend as the baby is with the father and his family for the weekend. So at least she is not alone today/tomorrow.
Twin1 rang in a state over the demand for the council tax bill by bailiffs again. So thinking we had sorted it at last hasnt happened. Another job for Monday. Have to take my paperwork with my council tax claim as well. Hopefully will kill two birds with one stone so to speak.
Tired, think I will see if DS will keep an eye on DGD for an hour and let me rest. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Thankyou for your replie. Yes it is special guardian allowance. I was told also by SS that I could apply for ctc and cb but when I phoned tax credits yesterday a rather snotty woman said if I'm getting money from the LA then I can't be paid twice. I then phoned SW but as usual she wasn't available ( I'm dealing with Northamptonshire SS also!!) I will ring back tax credits and speak to another person on Monday and hopefully they will know what they're talking about. Thanks again x0

Make sure that you claim the Child Benefit first, as the council are not claiming that on the Guardianship Allowance. Then when you have put in your claim for that, you can put in your claim for the Child Tax credits. This is what I have done. This is what I was advised anyway. The SGA should be treated as maintenance really, and as they do not count maintenance in the workings out, then its negated.
Good luck with it all. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0
