Great news on the weight gain Jedi!

I know lots of you ladies are big on swimming with littlie, I've not done it yet as I'm nervous he'll hate it and go mental (the acoustics in those pools must make a screaming baby 1000 times worse!) and scared of dropping him in/slipping while carrying him...but I need to get over it and do it. So, what exactly do you need re nappies/wetsuit etc? Any recommendations on anything? I want to be Prepared! Obviously I need to see if I can find my suit, a tummy tuck wouldn't go amiss either *looks guiltily at the empty bag of strawberry laces that somehow turned up in the sainsburys basket earlier...*

    Thanks :)

  • I haven't managed to take Niall swimming yet either although I brought him 4 reusable swim nappies at the nct sale last month. He just got over a cold and has now had more jabs so will see how he fairs over the next few days and might take him next week.

I guess a few swim nappies, a towel, take that with you to the pool side so you can wrap him straight away. It is a hand full taking kids swimming I took my 2 nephews once with my sis and mum and it was hard work

Katiechoc - I have a blow up seat for Noah that he sits in and floats around. I would take swimming nappies, towel (poolside) and swimming shorts.
It's not to scary honestly. I took all 3 boys on my own last week, it was hard work getting everyone dried and dressed bits it's definitely worth it. :D

Katie my tip would be don't use a baby towel (the hooded ones) - I take a full size towel for reu, and one for me. That way, I can put one towel down and lay him on it and put the other one on top of him when getting him dried/dressed.

Does he have bath toys? Might be worth taking one with you - that way it's something he is familiar with to play with - just like having a really big bath :)

Also don't expect him to last ages, we've been going since September and do half an hour now...and he is usually asleep before we're back at the car :)

Nutella what have you got on the menu today? I've got some bits to mush up too, doing banana & peach, peach apple & strawberry and potato leek & pea. See how these go down for a day or two then have a look at some meaty ones. Bit apprehensive as unless its butternut squash or sweet potato he's not very keen at all. I nicked a rusk out of the box I got for him yesterday, I'd forgotten how nice they are! He'll be lucky if gets very many of them ;)

We had banana porridge for breakfast, and pumpkin, sweetcorn and peas for lunch. She's still on two meals a day, but I'm planning to start her on three from tomorrow, so I'll be busy cooking and mashing away this weekend :) How did George get on with his food today? I really want my LO to try peach (I'm running out of new fruits to try!) but can't find any that are properly ripe - I guess November is hardly the best time of the year for them... Might have to give in and get some tinned ones. :o We've been very lucky so far - she's liked everything I've put in front of her apart from cauliflower, and I think that was a texture issue rather than flavour. If George likes butternut squash and sweet potato, have you tried parsnip and pumpkin? As they're similar in texture and also quite sweet, he might like them?...

Oh, and on swimming - in addition to what everyone else has said, I'd say put your own swimming costume on at home so that all you have to do for yourself when you get there is take your clothes off and stuff them in a bag! I tried doing the same for LO, but the swim nappy leaked before we got there, so that didn't work. Bring a spare change of clothes for him in case something gets wet, and make sure you have the right coins for the locker. Make sure you have plenty of time - there's a lot of faff involved in taking a baby swimming, but it's worth it! I too was worried about slipping, but it's highly unlikely to happen. If you're worried about dropping him in the pool, which again is very unlikely, I'd put him in a wetsuit as he'll be less slippery - although I've seen little boys wearing just a swim nappy in the pool, so it seems anything goes in terms of dress code!

Try it! If he cries, there'll be so much other noise anyway that most people won't notice. Don't expect him to love it immediately - there's a lot to get used to. But lots of smiles and singing and encouragement from you will help - and keep him facing you if he seems a bit anxious. Good luck :)

Put the swim nappy on when you get there! I'm pretty sure they're only for catching number 2s if you get my drift. They have almost no liquid absorption, otherwise they'd get huge in the swimming pool like a normal nappy would :rotfl:

Just in case anyone is wondering, normal nappies hold loads of water and get proper massive. When twin1 was 2 she managed to get in my (small!) Fishtank. God alone knows how :o I just turned around when I heard the splash! Anyway her nappy was like a size 5 football, there was water EVERYWHERE and the poor fish were all cowering un the remaining inch of water :rotfl: :rotfl:

Thanks all, will see if I can find my suit and maybe go tomorrow, OH is off work so will try and persuade him to come too.

George got on really well with breakfast - he had banana and porridge which I think he'd eat for every meal if I gave him it! Dinner was just toast soldiers again which went well but tea didnt go well at all - I made a batch of the peach, strawberry and apple but he wasn't having any of it. I think I need to feed him earlier rather than waiting for OH to get home and all eat together. I reckon an hour earlier (so around 5pm) and he'll be in a much better mood and actually try the new things. Feeling pretty down about it really, I know he needs to be having three proper meals rather than just toast at dinner time but he gets so stressed and upset with new things now. Then I get stressed and upset so he gets more stressed.... He started off so well too. Don't know where I went wrong :(
