Jedi, we have sock ons and they work really well. Really pleased to hear about Nialls weight gain too.

I am thinking about changing Theo's formula (currently on Aptamil) as I'm not sure it's agreeing with him. His nappies are horrendous - the biggest nappy in the land couldn't cope with the amount of poo he does in one go and I'm sick of trying to get it out of his clothes (and sometimes mine too!). I read somewhere that the pro-biotics in Aptamil can sometimes cause explosive nappies so I'm thinking of trying another brand (against the advice of the hv I might add). Does anyone know if I can literally just switch from one to the other? I think I read somewhere that you have to switch them over to the new brand gradually?

Elelyn, we switched from Aptamil (in hospital) to Cow & Gate (at home) when LO was a few days old and had no problems - and we didn't do it gradually. But I was combination feeding, so she didn't have only formula. Having said that, I don't know what the recommended way of switching is, so hopefully others will be able to advise.

Really pleased to hear you've had a good day today :D

I've never had a problem with switching formula before except some constipation leaving comfort milk to follow on and I didn't phase them out.

Thanks all :o feeling better now, think I just got a bit hung up on the whole "family meal round the table" idea. Guess there's plenty of time for that in the future. Think I'll try giving him new things at dinner time and see how that goes - can't face tantrums at breakfast time unless there's no other options!

It might be wishful thinking but I swear I can feel a sharp bit on his bottom gum this evening. Could be the first tooth! Nothing that I can see though, but he is notorious for sticking His tongue out whenever I try and look.

Meant to say earlier elelyn - glad you've had a good day! Mums are the best aren't they!

Edited to add; I meant mums as in our mums! But us mums are pretty good too ;)

Oh yeah meant to add do sock ons work? I rarely dress Niall in proper clothes as fed up with socks coming off all the time

    Yes, they're brilliant.

Great news on the weight gain Jedi!

I know lots of you ladies are big on swimming with littlie, I've not done it yet as I'm nervous he'll hate it and go mental (the acoustics in those pools must make a screaming baby 1000 times worse!) and scared of dropping him in/slipping while carrying him...but I need to get over it and do it. So, what exactly do you need re nappies/wetsuit etc? Any recommendations on anything? I want to be Prepared! Obviously I need to see if I can find my suit, a tummy tuck wouldn't go amiss either *looks guiltily at the empty bag of strawberry laces that somehow turned up in the sainsburys basket earlier...*

    Thanks :)

katie, I use Huggies swim nappies on their own. I haven't bothered with a shorts or a cossie. Remember that they're just for the pool - they're not absorbent, they just hold it all in if they do a poo, so don't attempt to travel to the pool in a swim nappy; put it on just before you get in the pool.

I take a towel to the poolside with me so that I can wrap F up as soon as we get out. Baby pools typically have stairs that you can just walk into the pool using, rather than ladders so it's highly unlikely you'd slip or drop him. I just walk into the water holding Freddie tightly to my chest facing me. Then I sink down into the water so that he still feels my warmth. Once he's stop looking so horrified I move him away, holding him at arm's length and give him a few gentle dunks. Then I move him onto his back and just swoosh him around. I've discovered that you only have to support their heads - the rest of them floats!

I don't stay in too long - 10 or 15 minutes tops. It's going well. Next week we're starting the butterfly as he's already perfected breaststroke and front crawl.

NB. Take lots of towels - I take three.

Going to baby massage today. I'm really looking forward to it, although the OH did point out last night that it's about massaging the baby, and not using the baby as some sort of massage loofah on me. Not sure what I'll be getting out of it if that's the case, but willing to give these things a try :D

  • maybe at lunch try giving him toast and spooning in something new when you can?

That way his hands are occupied and he has somehting familiar?

also if you're giving him porridge there's no harm mixing in some new tastes into that - I pop a few cubes of purreed apple in LO's wheetabix so you can try a few different flavours - beware pureed blueberries though they turn very blue and it goes everywhere!
